Oklahoma will be playing in front of 20k fans today while the Big Ten is not playing at all. Notre Dame is playing in front of 15k fans while IU and Purdue can’t play at all. Just a colossal failure all around. Thousands of high schools around the country have made it work, but a P5 conference can’t? Smh. I don’t really know how anyone can make excuses for the Big Ten at this point.

You picked up this torch early on in this whole pandemic and we’re at a point that I don’t believe you can see or understand it from any other angle.

We should shut everything down forever. Even without COVID, people died in car crashes going to games, drinking themselves stupid while tailgating, or even losing all their money gambling. Horrible. How could we allow anyone to do anything that could potentially harm them.

It’s called risk, when you wake up in the morning the rest of your day is comprised of risk analysis. You’ve made it clear that you don’t think anyone should take any risk related to COVID while there are plenty willing to take that risk. It’s been shown that hospitals have the capacity for a surge in cases.

Why did vehicle accidents and deaths decrease over the years? Safety protocols were put in place..

Now, we could have eliminated the automobile altogether and there would have been zero accidents and deaths. Seems kind of goofy right.

We can either all stay inside and never leave our dwellings or we can follow safety protocols (social distancing, wearing masks, washing hands, etc.) and get back to a somewhat normal life.

It was painful seeing other P5 conference teams playing yesterday while the Big Ten sat at home. Hell they even had fans in the stands.

You’ve been on that hill for awhile. It doesn’t make other people stupid or wrong because they’ve realized what’s going on and have come off that hill.

I hate telling people what to do or have them tell me what to do but that goofy **** you’ve done for months is old man.

For the record: I don’t know how the season plays out for the conferences that have decided to play. There is zero guarantees that the winter or spring would be any better to play. I do see how universities and athletic programs could have implemented a “bubble” for athletic teams if they really wanted to. There is a greater risk to athletes being back around the regular student body than to keep them in a bubble and play.

The player safety issues seem to be the driving reason for opponents of playing, and those just don’t hold up under scrutiny to me. We know that college students are very low-risk. It’s all the potential long-term effects. Yet, we know that football itself causes long-term effects. Players suffer long-term brain damage from football. We don’t let that keep them from playing, so why are potential long-term covid effects stopping them? Also, it’s not like players become safe if there isn’t a season. They know that they’re low risk. We see college students throughout the US partying every day. If anything, canceling the season increases the chances that they catch the virus. If you’re no longer at-risk of missing playing time if you test positive, you’re now more likely to go to that party or other social function.

Plus, high schools have been playing for several weeks now across the country. I saw an article earlier this week that zero outbreaks have been traced back to football games. It seems to be working as well as you could expect during a pandemic in the places that have tried.

It’s Covid man.  The fact you are getting 90%+ of the people that agree there should be a season should say something.  But yeah, I didn’t argue against anything you said so I got nothing.

Wow. Not only are we not on the same page, we aren’t in the same library.

NHL is doing just fine without a bubble. High School football with next to zero funding is doing great. MLB, after a few hiccups (which included positive tests, but no real damage) is surprisingly doing well.

The B1G was fear mongered by potential legal ramifications to shut things down based on completely falsified complications of Covid. They still haven’t answered to what made them make the decision besides that terrible myocarditis study.

You’ve got your mind made up and so do I, so I’m not sure why I even bother.

If the season doesn’t start by November, then the season’s not happening at all. Zero chance they start after 2020, especially in January.

I suppose we can make excuses ad nauseam. Or we could develop a plan with players that WANT to play and staff that WANT to work and get to business like most of the rest of the world.

I’m watching a Marshall football game with fans in attendance right now. Meanwhile, the Big Ten threw in the towel and didn’t even try. Will there be cancellations? Sure. The MLB has had cancellations too.  Yet they kept pushing forward. The Big Ten looks like a joke in the college sports world right now and you know that.

I don’t see Trump claiming to have more influence than the presidents of the universities. But if the president meets with the commissioner and says hey, tell us what you need in order to have a season and we’ll make it happen, you have to think that that would have an influence on the presidents.

It’s so embarrassing that the Big Ten threw in the towel and yet other conferences with fewer resources are already playing. at least there’s some college football to watch.

I’m talking Indiana. Illinois.... lol. Michigan just as bad. Indiana is doing fine and if it weren’t for the massive overreaction quarantines they’d be doing even better. If you can’t see the politics in your analysis above, I’m not sure what to tell ya.

All I can do is laugh at these programs. I never had respect for the Pac12 and their policies but I’ve lost a ton of respect for the B1G in the way they’ve handled this entire situation.

I guess next time they can look to High School sports to see how to make things happen.

Amen!  So many things cause myocarditis.  Assumptions this is COVID related entirely is a far far stretch.

Funny how folks automatically assume Trump is pressuring vs seeing if he can help. One possibility I found below.

Ohio State beat writer Austin Ward reports the parties discussed the availability of COVID-19 testing. The White House recently purchased 150 million saliva-based rapid tests from Abbott Laboratories for a national stockpile. Those could assist in providing adequate testing for the Big Ten. However, there is no indication that testing was among the Big Ten's primary concerns about staging a fall season.

The Big 1G bet big on other conferences following suit and canceling. Now that they haven’t, they just look stupid. An FCS game has already been played so far. If the SEC/Big 12/ACC get in a game, I would bet money on the Big 1G starting its season too.
