Hoosierfan2017 got a reaction from thebigweave in Fire Coach Woodson
You’re using a 5 game sample size during which IU played 1 tournament team (a Michigan State team that went 20-15). We didn’t exactly play a murderer’s row of opponents in those games. You’re cherry picking. Leal had games where he played 18, 17, and 16 minutes which we lost. If you expand it to conference games where he played double digit minutes, i.e., when he was in the rotation, IU went 7-7.

Imo the Leal money was just given to him because the donor likes him and/or his family. A gift, basically. No one in their right mind would think that another school would use their NIL to poach him.

Yes, if he had played the magical 20 instead of 18 against Purdue, we would have won instead of getting 20 pieced.

It’d be near impossible with IU’s NIL to not land a few decent players. He’ll do well enough to keep the pumpers pumping throughout the offseason. But Mike Woodson could land Steph Curry and Klay Thompson in the portal and they’d be feeding the post for 40 minutes a night come next season.

This will be the best thing said in this thread today. I'm sure of it and it's only 10:30 in the morning, Eastern Time. LOL
If Leal plays 20 minutes a game next year, IU isn't sniffing the tournament. The reason that IU was better at the end of the season was three-fold.
1.) KW was playing out of his mind.
2.) MM had finally figured out how to play at the college level.
3.) IU's opponents weren't very good. And the one "good" opponent was massively inconsistent.
If LCS thinks any "success" that IU experienced last year was predicated on Leal getting 20+ minutes in any game, I don't know what to tell you. I'd love to have the opportunity to sell LCS some amazing, life-changing products, though...LOL

Suggesting Leal playing at least 20 min a game is the secret formula for IU winning games is exactly what I would expect to see on page 943 of a fire Mike Woodson thread. Woodson has officially broken people's brains.

He played 34 minutes against NW when 5 players were suspended for curfew and we lost.

“I leave in the dark, I get home in the dark,” Cignetti said at a press conference Dec. 20. “It's been a lot of 4:30, 5 a.m. mornings till 10:30, 11:30 at night. Was even in the office at 12:30 one night. Haven't done that since 1986, but it was crunch time. It had to be done.”
Yeah, I think Cig was the better option here.
