IMO anything over an IU scholarship is paying Leal too much and shows just how desperate this staff is.

Imo the Leal money was just given to him because the donor likes him and/or his family. A gift, basically. No one in their right mind would think that another school would use their NIL to poach him.

Not saying Schertz won't pan out, but his record at ISU is no where near what Oats did at Buffalo. Oats had that team in the Top 25, made three straight NCAAs (I believe), etc.

So actually… Schertz record going into tonight’s game is exactly the same as Oats’ record through 3 years at Buffalo… 64-39.

I would be floored if someone from the actual staff was posting on an anonymous message board. Then again it may be par for the course with this bunch, but I highly, highly doubt Jordan Hulls is wasting his time with us common folk.

I doubt they’re on the actual staff but think there’s a very high probability they’re affiliated with someone who is on the staff.

Whoever it is has a major crush on @Chris007 from the number of times he/she tweets about him.

Not sure if I should share this or not but the feedback IU is getting from the portal so far, from kids who should be a layup for IU is not going well. When a player's camp tells you that you need to change your offense and pay them a lot of money to get them it's not good.

The players aren’t dumb. We’re not the only school with money. When money is all you have to offer because you play an office straight out of 2002, it’s not going to appeal to very many kids. If you’re a talented guard do you want to come play for IU? I wouldn’t. They can get paid by someone else where they’ll be coached by a better coach, play in a fun, modern offense, and win more than they would at IU. IU only becomes appealing when the pay differential becomes big enough.

    5 and 0.

1 tournament team during those 5 games. And he went 0-4 and scored 0 points in that game. He played double digit minutes in 14 conference games. IU went 7-7 in those games.

I don't think you necessarily have to rely on Leal. But he's a dude that doesn't need the ball to be effective and he seemed to be about the only guy who understood what basketball was most of the year when he got to play big minutes. But those 5 games were also some of the best basketball the team played all year, all B1G games. So if this staff gives him the green light to fire away... I think he becomes a good piece to sit alongside a non shooter like Galloway(who should be playing the Troy Williams role as a playmaker off slashing and some 1v1) and a post piece like Reneau. Leal and Mgbako would be two 3pt threats. And I'd like to have a guy with Leals attitude and passion starting. I know no one else on the board sees it, but I believe we would be fine with Leal starting and playing 23 minutes. Especially if we are able to get any sort of productive transfers on the bench.

If Anthony Leal is playing 23 mpg next year we will be even worse than we were this season.

  7. Obviously Mediocre Mike wasn’t mediocre as a player at IU. But missing the tournament 2 out of 4 years and never making it past the sweet 16 as a player when the teams immediately before and immediately after him won national championships makes for a nice meme. If he didn’t come off as such an unlikable guy I wouldn’t meme on him.

Wow. If one of the greatest players in program, history won the national championship as coach of the Indiana Hoosiers, you would want him fired immediately.

Just read that. See if that makes one iota of sense to you.

    Correct.

It’s never happening, though, so it doesn’t matter. The boosters can buy Woodson a team that he’s too lazy to recruit himself, but they can’t buy him a national championship.

    Lol - I'll bite.

It's not likely for Woodson/IU, or for any team, but are you saying that if IU went to the Final Four next season you would still want Woodson fired? If we won the National Championship next season you would not want him brought back?

    Yes.

Obviously he would never be fired. But I 100% would want him to ‘retire.’ He’s abandoned high school recruiting to instead put all his eggs in the transfer portal bucket. Even if that works next year, there’s no foundation for subsequent years. We’d be counting on him to hit home runs in the portal every year.

And just as important, I want a head coach I can root for. I really can’t root for Mike Woodson. Not with everything we’ve learned about his approach to this job.

Michigan had an excellent former college coach help identify coaching candidates.  IU has former players that know more about the NBA than the college game make our hiring decisions.  What they say about data is true- garbage in, garbage out.

And what they do know about the NBA isn’t great either, given their track records after their playing days were over.

I want Woodson gone because I don't think he can be successful as a college coach. If he proves that wrong by making the S16, I'd be fine with keeping him for a while longer. I doubt he makes the tournament next year but right now we don't even know who will be on the team. Maybe he'll get the overwhelming amount of experienced talent he needs to succeed.

A sweet 16 run would be a great way to send Woodson into retirement. Under no circumstances should he be brought back after next year, imo. Either he stinks and gets fired, or he saves his IU legacy by doing well and then retires.
