Not sure that was even a thing back in his day.  Maybe carrier pigeon.

He’s sitting in his office waiting for transfers to show up. If you want to play for Mike Woodson, you come to Mike Woodson.

Because he has been here 9 years and there is a new governor who might not want to reappoint him. But the biggest thing is he has told people he is going to be done.

And he’s making sure to screw over iubb as his final act. What a nice guy.

But it DOES happen today .... Illinois player had to hire a lawyer to sue the school for him to get back on the team this year. Amazing. Can't remember his name right now.

Honestly I was more so thinking about the professional leagues with my comment and forgot about the Illinois guy. The nba didn’t suspend Kobe at all during that. That’s not happening today. The legal system will do its thing and in the Illinois case said the player could play, but post-MeToo sexual assault allegations are treated differently and I don’t think we’d see Steve Alford handle it the same way now as he did then. But in any event it doesn’t really matter because he’ll never be the coach at IU. Plus, you can get his results from someone else who doesn’t have that event in his past.

Is it that much different now though?  Isn’t Terrence Shannon Jr playing an entire season with a pending  rape or SA charge currently? Or am I thinking of the wrong guy?

The university suspended him indefinitely. He had to go to court and get a preliminary injunction.

I wish Alford would have recognized the problem with how he handled the PP situation at Iowa and worked to make some amends publicly.  Admit he was blinded by loyalty to player and incorrectly assumed things he should not have blah blah blah.  I don't think he would be a high end coach here but I think he could be more steady that Crean with those same levels of peaks every so often.

    Hoping for better though

He did after he faced some heat after getting the UCLA job. Idk, it was over 20 years ago. It was a far different culture back then. Heck, Kobe Bryant played an entire season with a pending rape charge back then. That’d never happen today. That’s not an excuse. He was wrong. He didn’t handle it properly. But there really isn’t anything in the 20+ years since to suggest he’d make the same mistake again.

However, he’s not really a good coach. Above average at best. If the IU administration was as hellbent on an IU guy as it seems they were, Alford was the only legitimate option, but I doubt he’d be killing it here.

Then if the deal is to move one next year, why not announce that Woodson will retire after next season. Then hire Dusty as the “GM” or advisor type role and let him start recruiting a year in advance.

I'd also add Luke Yaklich is available to be an assistant. He was the defensive mind behind  Beilein taking a step forward at Michigan. I think Dusty needs a defensive mind in staff.

Dusty won’t be available next year. And he’s not going to take a demotion when he could be a P5 coach next year. I don’t even want dusty but I have zero doubt that whoever IU hires will be worse.

What is it about Otzelberger that gets him in this discussion?  I know he has Iowa State at a good spot this year, but wasn't he pretty mediocre at UNLV.  What am I missing?

Same with Shrewsbury. He’s 50-51 and 24-36 in conference play in three seasons as a P5 head coach…

Blow the whole thing up.  Shut the program down for next year because that’s exactly what they are telling us they intend to do if they can’t do the right thing

100%. They care more about massaging Mike Woodson’s enormous ego than they do winning basketball games.

So, which is it for you?

You constantly disparage “ old timers” for living in the past about a game that in your opinion has passed them by.

Yet you try to make a point using something from over 20 years ago.

I am ready for a coaching change, just like the majority on here. But the reaches some of you guys make to try and validate your position are really weak

What are you even talking about?

Oh wait, Mike Woodson too busy doing his job tonight.

Bad night to be a bottle of wine in Bloomington

To be fair Indiana is not in the same breath as those schools in today’s college basketball landscape. This has been the status quo at Indiana for 25 years or so. They could be if they got serious…

I don’t disagree. But the IU administration’s expectations are the only reason it’s not a fireable offense. NCAA tournament appearances should be the bare minimum at IU, not gold stars that get you a million dollar raise. Mike Davis got fired right after making the round of 32.

  12. 5 minutes ago, BlueDevil said:

19-14 is not a fireable offense after back to back tourney appearances. It’s just not. Having 0 recruits coming in, getting blown out numerous numerous times, and have the overall trajectory of the program trending way down is. I’m watching Nebraska make it rain from 3 last night and Indiana going down the other in and packing it in the post for 2s and weak @$$ takes to the rim. This offensive philosophy is flawed and out dated. It’s not going to change. Mike Woodson is not going to change.

1 tournament win in three years and a 31-29 conference record is 100% fireable at a real basketball school. You think you’re getting a fourth year at Duke, kansas, etc. with that?

I can’t share my source or provide more detail, but the differnece in discipline off the court is night and day with the basketball team compared to the football team. There are systemic issues that cannot change under Woodson

The difference having a real coach makes.

I've reread my posts and still don't find anything about lack of interest in recruiting.
Please point that out for us.

No, I agree Woodson is not a tier 1 coach, but he's not a horrible coach either like the arm chair coaches here make him out to be.

I am saying, IU gets a bad rap on the recruiting circuit because of both its fans, and its administration (including coaches). And that's just sad.

IU gets a bad rap on the recruiting circuit because its coach rarely shows up and can’t remember names when he does.
