What's your opinion on why they're going with Ramsey? Do you think they want the safe pick?

Really interesting that the grad transfer isn't starting. I like Ramsey and think he'll succeed.

Zion needs to drop weight. At least 20 pounds. 285 pounds at 18 can easily turn into 300+ as he enters his 20s if he's not careful. Even though it's 285 pounds of muscle that's not good on your body, especially with the way he plays.

IU oversells dorms every year so that way after people drop out, change roommates, etc., they're not left with empty rooms that people aren't paying for. Not that it's a good thing to do, but the strategy makes sense when you look at it like that.

That apartment complex looks really nice. I know some people want us to get "players dorms" like other schools, but I think those apartments would be a good place to have the players all live. They're brand new and right next to Cook Hall, and there's a bus right there that takes you into campus.

I wasn't really talking about the OSU situation though, just more generally about the larger issue. What Meyer did or did not do, who knows. I don't expect him to get fired and if he does he'll have another job within a week

Pretty big leap there to get "people who don't think ignoring domestic is a big deal" out of "firing people for accusations is a slippery slope". Sure, it's not the legal system, so "innocent until proven guilty" isn't at play, but I don't want to live in a society where someone can lose everything because of a mere allegation. Apparently that's an extremist view these days. It's incredibly easy to make something up. Someone could come into your work Monday morning and say "Brass Cannon abused me" without any proof. Would you want to be fired when you didn't do anything?

Okay, but if you start punishing people for accusations then you're going to end up punishing innocent people. Take the Reuben Foster situation, a guy on the 49ers. "Ennis told responding officers in February that Foster had dragged her down the stairs by her hair, threw her out of the house, punched her in the head eight to 10 times and spit on her." If that was an allegation posted on here I imagine we'd hear things like "what an sob, lock the cell and throw away the key, he deserves worse than jail", etc. Now, the real story: "Ennis — who had begun recanting her original story within two days of relaying it, the district attorney confirmed in court, and formally did so through her attorney in late April — said on Thursday all those behaviors she described were lies. “I wanted to sue Reuben,” Ennis said under oath. “It was a money scheme. It was all about money. I wanted to get him.” “I really wanted to kill him,” she added. “I was so hurt.” Ennis said she became visibly upset the morning Foster said he wanted to break up with her and that she chased after him with threats as he tried to run away from her. “I told him I’m about to f–k yo s–t up, make sure you don’t have a job tomorrow,” she said, as reported by The Athletic." https://www.google.com/amp/s/nypost.com/2018/05/17/nfl-players-ex-girlfriend-brutal-allegations-were-lies-for-money/amp/

Firing people because of accusations is a very slippery slope, but unfortunately it seems to be the norm nowadays.

I agree completely. There are many, many bright kids at IU. With such a large enrollment of course there will be bright ones. However, there are also many students that shouldn't be there. They spend every night partying, they skip most of their classes, and they fail out after a semester or two. IU doesn't care, they still got their money. They just replace those students the next year. I love IU, and I loved my four years of undergrad in Bloomington. I can honestly say that there isn't another school in the country I would rather have attended. I had great professors, I received a great education, and I had a ton of fun. It's just not an 'elite school' in the traditional sense, and it won't ever be one until they change their admission standards.

IU accepts more than 70% of its applicants. Its average SAT and ACT scores aren't elite. It's not a top academic institution. I'm surprised that this is a controversial thing to say.

College sports is a multi-billion dollar industry. Other schools with much better academic reputations than IU have been able to figure it out. Duke, UVA, Michigan, and Notre Dame to name a few. Why can't IU?

Those sports are irrelevant. Sinking millions of dollars into them, while having your men's basketball team, your school's marque team, using a middle school looking locker room is absurd. This mentality is why the football program has been a joke for decades and basketball has missed the tournament more than its made it the past decade. I expect better from my university.

Your post was about revenue. You didn't say anything about wins. The other 22 sports all lose money. It doesn't matter how much money you pump into them, they're still going to lose money. It's the case across the country. So, it's completely rational to pump money into the sports that can make you money. There's a ton of room for growth for IU football. They could make much more money than they currently do.Unfortunately, the university doesn't care enough to make it happen. Don't take it from Iugradman or me, take it from this guy: "Tom Allen is a good man. A no-nonsense coach stuck in a football program whose administration doesn’t care enough to want to get better."
  17. Hoosierfan2017

    Upcoming season

Okay, so why should the other 22 sports get anything at all when they all lose IU money? It's a total joke that they're just now getting around to renovating the basketball locker rooms.
  18. Hoosierfan2017

    Upcoming season

Basketball and football pay for all of the 22 other programs. They are the only two programs that turn a profit each year. If they want something then they should get it. Big time universities understand this. Do you think if Nick Saban goes to his AD and asks for something he gets told "sorry coach, but the field hockey team needs a new locker room. You'll have to wait"?
  19. Hoosierfan2017

    Upcoming season

There's too much focus on the "24 sports One Team" thing, imo. Sure, the other 22 sports shouldn't be just cast aside, but basketball and football must be taken care of first. Once they're in good shape then go on to the other sports. There's no good reason for the men's basketball locker rooms to just now be getting renovated.

It's really not that big of a deal to me, as this is my first post on the issue, but if you're going to make claims like "X player tied the combine record" you should probably use combine rules. You're right that their rules are arbitrary, but if you used different ones then you didn't actually tie the record you said you did. It's not the same measurement.
  22. Hoosierfan2017

    Summer of 2018

They call it that at the combine and they have specific rules regarding how it's measured. It's not like they let guys at the combine get as big of a running start as they want. So, it does matter. Calling it "Max Vert" and talking about tying a combine record (implying that they're using combine techniques) is deceptive.

I think it's important to remember that he got injured before we really started the conference season. He played 3 Big Ten games, averaged 6.3/3.3 on 36.4% shooting, and only played 15.3 minutes per game. He started out strong last year, scoring double digits in 8 of our first 10 games. Then he was held in single digits in each of the last 5 games.

So this is how they do it at the NBA combine it looks like.

OG Anunoby - New York Knicks

He's a lot like Andrew Wiggins where his box score numbers look good, but the advanced numbers aren't kind to him. Especially his playoff advanced statistics. -VORP, -BPM, high usage but only 0.39 WS/48. A career playoff PER of 15.8. He's also a bad 3 point shooter, only shooting 23.5% in the playoffs for his career. It depends on what the Spurs are wanting to do. Derozan doesn't move the needle for them in the West, imo, unless Popovich can work his magic. I personally think they would've been better off trading Kawhi for young guys and/or picks if such a package was available. The 1st round pick they did get is top-20 protected. I think there's a decent chance it falls in the range, in which case it would turn into two second round picks.
