Classic Rabjohns/Peegs stuff. Saying a lot without saying anything at all. They're clearly big believers in the phrase "Never let a crisis go to waste" as evidenced by their current 3 months for the price of 1 special going on now.

Are you sure? Are you sure it wasn't nothing?

He flies to the games from Carmel? lol, that's such a Carmel thing to do.

Only addition I'd like to that potential staff is to include Fife. Not sure how you'd do it, but I'd love to get him involved somehow. I don't know who he would replace on that list though, I'd take those 3 in a heartbeat. Plenty of Indiana blood on that staff.

I'm rooting for UC to beat UCLA tonight, as there is no way we would hire Alford after his best team finishes 3rd in conference and doesn't even make the Sweet 16. It would be awfully tough to justify firing a guy for inconsistency in his last 6 years, then turn around and say "I found the answer to our coaching search - the guy who went to the Sweet 16 twice with someone else's players, missed the tournament last year, then got bounced the second round of the tournament." Tough sell.

LOL IU and Fred Glass are probably sending out smokescreens and false information to various media personnel regarding Alford, but The Huffingon Post is home to the only people dumb enough to run with it.

Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers
AKHoosier replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
There is a certain player who shall remain nameless that I wouldn't mind if he left after this season, but maybe a new coach could light a fire under him. Given Newkirk's play towards the end of the year, he'll be a pretty good piece going forward. A core of Newkirk, Green, Morgan, Davis, Moore, and Smith should be pretty good to build with. If we can hold on to Bryant and Johnson, then we could be towards the top of the B1G. -
Super hot take in here. When a thread you started completely blows up in your face......

Saw that, but the Thunder have also gone on a 5 game winning streak since this article was written. They still probably won't get anything higher than a 5 seed in the Western Conference, but I'd feel a bit better if they started losing more.

July is really the bigger recruiting period anyway. A Donovan hire would steal headlines in April, and by the time July rolls around, he could walk into any high school gym in the country and have instant credibility.
-
add bluegrass (I think) to that list too. As soon as it was announced yesterday, all of those guys yesterday started to get on board with having a real chance at Donovan. If/when HickoryHoosier comes in saying that we may end up with Donovan, my head will explode. He's the one who has said "dream on" in regards to him in the past.

Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers
AKHoosier replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I know that Glass said yesterday we had already reached out to our incoming recruits, but I wish someone had asked if their scholarship offers were going to be honored. However, I'm sure that would be up to the new coach and not the A.D. Lastly, I wonder if we still have a shot at Jordan Tucker. You'd have to think the right hire (Donovan) would make him still consider IU. -
Wtf. I pray to God no one in the athletic department thinks like this. Also, if forcing a priest to bully a rape victim into not pressing charges against a player is part of the "fit" or "culture" here, then I'll go ahead and root for Butler.

Top 5 Attributes for the next coach
AKHoosier replied to Maynard's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
1. Demonstrated post-season success 2. Unblemished record of staying within NCAA guidelines 3. Demonstrated conference championships 4. High-level recruiter 5. Has never attempted to cover up a rape in his coaching career. -
Good. Now if we hear the same thing about Alford, I'll be able to sleep well for the time being.
-
UCLA plays in Sacramento.

Alford would come here and probably be the exact same as Crean. Win the conference once or twice, get to a few Sweet 16s, but also have frustrating seasons of 19-12 or 17-14 sprinkled in between. Then after 6 years we'd want him run out of town like the last guy, which would forever tarnish the legacy he has at IU.
-
They'd be nuts to release him from his LOI though without a valid reason from Waters. This is almost unprecedented, as high school seniors only request releases from their LOI if there's a coaching change. As of right now, that hasn't happened. An example of this actually happened a few years ago in football with Eddie Vanderdoes of UCLA, who claimed he had a sick grandmother he wanted to be close to, rather than go to Notre Dame, after he had already signed his LOI. Notre Dame denied him his release, it went to the NCAA, where they oddly ruled in favor of Vanderdoes, meaning he didn't have to sit out a year at UCLA. This whole thing is strange. The only PR nightmare that would ensue from this is if Georgetown had fired Thompson III, Waters asks for his release, but his request is denied by GTown. The request for release always comes after the public announcement of a coaching change.
-
True but wouldn't Waters have to sit out a year since he has signed his LOI? I'm 99% sure that's the case.
-
How the heck can Tremont Waters do that? There's no way Georgetown will let him out of his LOI, so he'll have to sit out next year regardless, right?
-
That's an odd choice to make one of the top-paid coaches in the country. I think they should try and pry Hoiberg away from Chicago, but that'll be an interesting vacancy to keep an eye on because they're rumored to also be targeting Cuonzo Martin, who is also on Mizzou's list.
-
Another board said De'Ron, Green, and Gelon are all likely to transfer. I wouldn't be surprised to see Robert Johnson graduate and head to Virginia for a year, totally speculating though. He just looks unhappy and "over it" right now. Who knows what will happen when the dust settles.
-
Ehh I'm not so sure about that I want that dance to happen. A lot of these AAU coaches I don't want any part of. Not all of course, but some are just out for themselves, and I couldn't care less if they have an Indiana kid on their travel league team. And also, Steve is an arrogant a$$. He is eventually going to rub someone the wrong way.
-
Does anyone honestly think Indiana high school players care about Steve Alford at all? Alford was a good player and all, but I hate to break it to those who expect him to "lock down the state": 18 year kids today don't give a sh1t about what Steve Alford did 30 years ago.
-
Well it is stupid. Rooting for the coach to be fired after winning a national championship maaaaaaay have a tendency to cause potential coaches to think twice before considering the IU job. And to "know there's no way he'd do it again" is going out on a limb just a bit.
