(2021) - Kaitlin Peterson to UCF

Eufaula defeated Opelika 65-32. Peterson with 18 pts. Eufaula is ranked #2 in Class 6A. For reference, 6A is the second highest level in Alabama. Peterson's school is nearly the smallest in Class 6A with an enrollment of 575; the largest is Mountain Brook (remember Christian and Trendon Watford?) with an enrollment of just over 1,000.

Montverde wins its 39th in a row 73-52 over Legacy Early College. Hood-Schifino played 16 minutes scoring 2 pts. on 1-1 FG; 0-3 FT; 3 reb; 2 asst; 1 stl; 1 blk; 2 TO. Justice Williams played 15 minutes scoring 7 pts. on 3-5 FG; 1-2 on 3s; 1 reb; 1 asst; 2 TO.

    (2022) - SG C. J. Gunn to DePaul

In what has become SOP for Lawrence North (10-0) they trailed for most of the game and tied it up with 2 min. remaining on a nifty baseline drive by Gunn and then dominated the game from that point for a 69-59 win over North Central (5-6) in the opening round of the Marion County Tournament. As they did in the previous game, the announcers commented that Gunn was not shooting well this season but that wasn't the case tonight. He finished with 28 points (twice his season average) on 6-7 2s; 3-7 3s and 7-7 FT. He added 1 reb; 1 stl and 2 TO. This was the fourth game I've watched him play this season. IMO he has a nasty habit of throwing soft one-hand passes and he gets beat pretty regularly on baseline drives by the man he's guarding. North Central features '21 Leland Walker who we've looked at but doesn't appear there's any serious interest. He finished with 14 pts. on 3-5 2s; just 1-7 3s and 5-5 FT. He added 3 assts. and 1 TO. As I recall when his name was first mentioned in connection with IU there were questions about his height. Per the game announcers he's 6'1" FWIW. Final comment. Butler's getting a good recruit in Lawrence North's D. J. Hughes.

(2022) - SF Justin Taylor to Syracuse

Taylor's season is still in doubt. St. Anne's Belfield (SAB) is a member of the League of Independent Schools and Virginia Preparatory League (VPL). On Dec. 16, the VPL delayed a decision on winter sports until its January meeting - date unknown. Public schools in Virginia (Tyler Nickel) opened their seasons last week but it remains to be seen what the VPL will do. A great many of the prep schools are boarding schools; however, SAB is a "day school" and thus cannot provide any "bubble atmosphere".

    (2022) - PG Avery Brown

In response to @ebridges24 question in the '22 recruiting thread, Brown will not have a basketball season. The following is straight from his school's athletic director -- The NMH winter sports programs will practice every day. The sports of wrestling, basketball and hockey will not have outside competition. Both Alpine and nordic skiing can compete on a limited basis. Swimming will host virtual meets. Northfield Mount Hermon is a member of the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) and it's unclear who made the actual NMH decision to not play, i.e, the school itself or state or local Massachusetts government. NEPSAC is comprised of nearly 150 schools and it was not an NEPSAC decision as some of its member schools do have published basketball schedules and others do not, one of which is Jordan Geronimo's former school St. Paul's.
  18. IU (7-5) (2-3) wraps up a 2-game road trip at Nebraska (4-7) (0-4). Game will be aired on BTG with Larry Punteney and Shon Morris on the call. Earlier this afternoon we opened as a 7-point favorite at Nebraska, o/u 136.5. Pomeroy puts it at 8 & gives us a 77% chance of victory. I haven't seen any links for live stats. Big Ten basketball tournament still up in the air Kevin Brockway - CNHI Sports Indiana For now, the Big Ten men’s basketball tournament is scheduled for March 10-14 at the United Center in Chicago. But when asked about the status of the tournament in a Big Ten Network interview Sunday, Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren was non-committal. “We’re in the process of making decisions,” Warren said. “We want to make sure that, one, we keep our student-athletes healthy and safe and do all the right things but also afford them the opportunity to play, to win and to get ready for the NCAA Tournament. So we’ll be working through those issues.” At issue is a 2021 NCAA Tournament health-and-safety protocol requiring all Tier 1 participants (student-athletes, coaches and essential staff) to record seven straight days of negative COVID-19 tests before entering a controlled environment at hotels in Indianapolis. That could put the status of the Big Ten men’s basketball tournaments and other tournaments that take place the week leading up to the NCAA Tournament in jeopardy. Schools may not want to risk putting their teams in a position to have a team-wide outbreak the week leading up to March Madness. Last year, the Big Ten tournament played just two games in Indianapolis before the rest of the event was canceled due to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Minnesota beat Northwestern, and Indiana beat Nebraska on Wednesday night. The relevance of conference tournaments has been debated in recent years. The NCAA Tournament rewards automatic bids for winners of conference tournaments, but sometimes, those tournament champions can serve as bid stealers if an unexpected team gets hot and pulls off an upset. Some in college basketball circles have advocated for those bids to be awarded to conference regular-season champions to reward a full body of work. The flip side is the drama conference tournaments can create if a team gets on a roll or giving teams on the bubble a chance for a last statement win to boost their tournament resume. Conference tournaments have always been money-makers for the Power Five, but with limited or no attendance likely due to the pandemic, the chance to produce significant revenue dramatically decreases. Warren will likely weigh those factors when a decision is made, which could come by the end of the month.

No. Last I saw, games in MA were allowed to start Dec. 14, but nothing from Avery's school and they've not published any kind of game schedule. I'll investigate further and let everyone know.

Do you read that as all of those schools have offered or just AZ State? Seems highly unusual if we've extended an actual offer and none of the usual suspects have commented on him. Wording is confusing to this old fart.

Latest Rivals rankings for the '22 class. With so many states not yet having started basketball seasons not sure the rankings carry as much weight as they might have in normal times.
