ThompsonHoosier reacted to Hovadipo in Coach Curt Cignetti to INDIANA
Q. ON BUILDING UP THE NIL RESOURCES AT INDIANA…
CURT CIGNETTI: It isn’t cooking, it’s done. We’re there. Part of what I’ve got to do is change the way people think…my players, people around the program, and people outside the program because there's a perception that people won't give to football. The ante has been upped. The figure is there. It’s a very highly competitive figure within the Big Ten Conference.
A lot of hell yes's in this interview, but this one was almost audible from me.

Mellencamp needs a lot of work, football only weight room and some things like that. We easily have the worst facilities. Purdue just did something like 100 million upgrade, NW did like 200 million. Have to keep up. The next head coach will get 7-9 million

In my opinion Dolson needs to find the funds to make a sizable investment in the program. Yes, there has been investment in the last 10 years or so (updated weight room and locker room and Memorial Stadium end zones) but it has been just enough to stay towards the bottom of the conference. As some have suggested, the football team needs its own designated weight room and a new practice facility. This investment will be needed regardless of who is the head coach of the team and it may even help bring better coaches down the line.
Whether we like it or not, Allen will be the head coach for at least one more season. I truly like Allen as a person and I think he loves the state and the program. Just a few season ago I thought we had our version of Kirk Ferentz (or Pat Fitzgerald) and a part of me still thinks he can be that coach for us. I just hope he can find a vision for what type of offense/defense his teams are going to run and stick to it. He has mentioned he prefers a dual threat QB in the past; then why did we bring Connor in this past season? Finding a mobile QB in the transfer portal should be the main priority at this moment. Without knowing who the QB will be, it will be hard to attract other transfer portal players. I would also like for Allen to stop doing two jobs at the same time. He needs to be the head coach and let his defensive coordinator do his job.
Bringing in Bostad was a great first step to address the OL issue. I think we all saw significant improvement in the offense towards the end of the season (before Dex went down). I just wonder if having a dual threat offense since the start of the season could have led us to win a few more games (Nebraska, Rutgers, Maryland??) and be bowl eligible. How different would the narrative be if we could have ended 6-6 and bowl eligible?

Sitting on our hands until the buyout hits the bargain bin will have us crash landing into rock bottom. That’s sooooo easy to recruit against.

The new locker room is really nice with a decent player lounge. The meeting rooms are nice enough, but overall they're average. The indoor facility is the big eye sore. That thing SUCKS. Old, discolored, dangerous turf. Short ceilings with netting for baseball and soccer that looks awful. Rusting beams everywhere. It's just dirty and disgusting. The MAC schools that have indoor facilities are almost all better than ours. That needs to be the first major facility project on football's wish list and it needs to start yesterday.
There's also the discussion about the all-sports weight room. The room itself is pretty nice and looks out into the stadium, but almost every time the team is in there, volleyball or track or whoever is working out in the other half, which is kind of a joke when you look at other football programs.

I think Carpenter and Katic might be up in the air on coming back or not, just based on COVID years and how long they've been around. Both would be replaceable. Other than them I think we lose at least 2 more scholarship guys so there will be plenty of schollies to go around for the committed guys and portal adds.
Luckily (?) Bedford's injury came early, so I'd expect him to be back for camp barring a rehab hiccup, but yeah I think that core is pretty good and assuming a couple portal additions of Bostad's choosing that group might end up not being a worry next year. The defensive line (and uh...the rest of that side of the ball), however. Yikes.
