"We've been dealing with it for 3 years, we had a collective at JMU". Vibes of RMK saying 'what a **** question' in a more professional manner.

"Yes we did" 3 seconds into Coyle's question. He is going to make some reporters mad

Seriously. You google "JMU NIL" and it's pretty obvious to see they have a more organized NIL system than Indiana does. We have a lot of reporters but about 3.5 worth anything.

No limit to how good we can be.

hoosierbgh got a reaction from J34 in 2024 PG Daquan Davis to Florida State
The fact that Woody hasn't immediately made a snap decision on this kid, could possibly mean he's a coach doing his due diligence and carefully considering offers instead of a fan overreacting into knee jerk offers. You know, the same kind of desperate, knee jerk offers that many of us fans complained about previous coaches handing out?
Or
As has been suggested by at least one source, IU is just slow rolling this in public to avoid the appearance of tampering.

There's no point bringing a guard in just to get a benchwarmer if the coaches don't feel he'll be able to contribute and contribute relatively soon. Especially when we appear likely to only have two or three open schollies and one of those will almost certainly be held open for Queen. IMO, more care and consideration is needed not less. We don't just need a guard, we need a good guard that can contribute right away. I think Davis could very well be that guard but I don't think there is a reason to rush into anything here.

Montverde has now played 2 teams ranked in the top 10 nationally and flat boat raced both of them. But, yeah, they couldn’t hang with some MEAC team on the road in January. Uh huh

I feel like the telling stat when questioning whether small point guards can get the job done is rebounding. At 6'0" DaQuan Davis is averaging almost 5 rebounds per game at OTE. To me that means he is a physical 'dog' of a player. Add some good shooting stats and he seems to be an excellent pickup. And if he helps with DQueen? All the better.
Two other things: on his most recent highlight video he easily slams it on an unguarded breakaway and some of his three point makes are waaaay behind the arc (and fairly effortless from long distance).

Hells yeah! I'd say this an A hire for IU. Shout out toLebowski for bringing his name up quite awhile ago. I dismissed it because I assumed he'd get a bigger/better job. If nothing else this signifies that IU is finally taking football seriously. Now as others have said we need to do a lot more in regards to facilities upgrades and NIL. Happy

hoosierbgh reacted to str8baller in Maryland vs Indiana - Game Thread, Fri., 12/1 @ 7 BTN
I have only watched them once and not even a full game, but they do not strike me as a good ball movement team. We could probably get by with some stretches of zone. They’re not a good 3 point shooting team either, although they do get offensive rebounds.
The one caveat is that when we went zone it was almost exclusively with Banks in for Mbako. Who knows how Mbako would hold up in a zone.
With all that said, our m2m is way worse at guarding the 3 than defending the rim. So I don’t worry about Cupps and Galloway as much versus Maryland since they’re not equipped to take advantage of our lapses as much as some teams. As long as those two can run guys off the 3 point line, Ware should be waiting inside.

Nothing is going to change for Edey. He wouldn't have been drafted last year, he won't be drafted this year, and, if he comes back for his COVID year (I think he will), he won't be drafted after next year. He just isn't what NBA teams want to use a draft pick on.

For what it's worth....the Michigan fans are all very disappointed in losing Hart, that is, if IU hires him.....

If he would end up being successful enough to be considered for the Michigan job at that point I’m guessing we would all be a lot happier than we are now

So, you're saying he's done a good job with everything, but the football program?
You do realize IU football has been bad for over a century, correct?

I feel like Banks deserves more minutes right now. He has been a plus for us. I also noticed Cupps (didn't have a great night) was listening about guards rebounding. He was really attacking the boards tonight.

Some of your assessment I agree with - I don't see CJ being a contributor on a high level winning basketball team right now. I do see some potential for him to get there and I think he has more of that than Leal. That said, CJ has shown some things on the court that really make you shake your head, and a few seldom glimpses of the upside we need more of.
Of course the staff wanted to recruit over him. It's not that I expect him to fill the massive gap we have at the 2 guard, but I think he will be able to make us more competitive than Leal. He's still just a sophomore. Who even knows if we'll get to see what a junior Gunn at IU looks like with the portal being the way it is these days.
Banks has been impressive recently.

We were hopeful but weren't sure what player we were getting in Ware. We know now. He's outstanding, our best player, he -- presumably with staff's help -- found his hustle and focus. NBA first-rounder (as was originally assumed) for sure, we're lucky to have him.

FWIW…Two years in a row Woody has made changes and we’ve been a better second half of the season team.
Yeagley and staff are a special kind of good though.

hoosierbgh got a reaction from craigyv88 in The ALL THINGS ABOUT ANNOUNCERS Thread
I'd rather listen to the students on BIG+ than Walton, Dykes, Marshall or Burkes. Walton is by far the worst by a mile and probably the worst "professional" to ever get paid to announce a basketball game. Dykes somehow manages to combine the smarminess of Bilas/Hummel along with a complete lack of awareness of basketball outside of the SEC. Burkes is just incredibly boring with little apparent personality. Marshall is both boring and largely unaware, seems like he is just collecting a paycheck for as little effort as possible.
I can tolerate the rest, even Bardo, and a few are actually enjoyable likes Settles and Kellogg. I still miss Kitch and Laz, though Kitch was definitely in the mode of a know it all like Bilas.
