hoosierbgh reacted to Demo in (2025) - PG Mikel Brown, Jr.
In January 2024 I’m not sure he is. Defensively, he’s definitely not, though he’s not bad. Davis is just really disruptive and obviously takes pride in his defense. Kid’s in the middle of everything  Brown’s more projectable. He’s bigger. He’s a little longer. Little better athlete. Really deep range. But I would think what Woody would light on is that Brown has obvious NBA-caliber playmaking chops. 2 plays come to mind: 1) Brown jumps and contorts his body to catch an outlet pass on the left wing that’s thrown high and behind him. Catches it in 1 hand and before he hits the ground he guns it at a 45 degree angle crosscourt dead on the money to a guy running the right alley for a dunk. Watched it multiple times and not sure when he even identified the guy. 2) catches a pass coming off a down screen and wants to hit the screener cutting to the rim. Doesn’t have an angle and almost anybody throws it as an alley-oop, which would have been really tough. Instead, Brown makes a quick faint to his right, gets the roll defender to move a hair left and then whips a bounce pass through the tiny window he created between his defender and the roll defender for a layup. That was cool. Those aren’t college PG plays. Those are Chris Paul plays.  They’re not teachable. That being said, assuming there are no issues we’re unaware of, if I had the choice between accepting a Davis commitment today or waiting on a potential Brown re-class I’d take Davis and never look back. I’m a believer in the kid’s game and he’s got the mother of all chips on his shoulder. Have become a big fan.

Took my family to the game. We were sitting with the band on the bleacher seats. We toured Cook hall , the weight room and locker room facilities . My kids met several players. Malik Reneau is such a great guy. Coaching staff and players took the time to get pictures and sign autographs with a smile. I couldn’t be happier with the experience!

    That’s fantastic.
Malik Reneau is such an easy kid to root for. Just a genuinely good and happy person.

Mikey Williams? Lol hell no. I'm not even sure he's that talented -- he was as a 14 year old but others caught up to and surpassed him.
While there are no guarantees, we can most certainly do better in the portal than Mikey Williams.

Much prefer Peacock to needing that BTN+ subscription. If  was only able to choose one I'd take Peacock every day and twice on Sundays.
Better production, better announcers, and cheaper--$19.99 for the year with some good non-basketball programming.

Meh...his story never ends the same at IU. I am just appreciative of the short excitement we had with Penix and DeBoer. But to think this could've been us is just not likely.

Torvick's got IU rated behind a Michigan team they beat on the road without Johnson and Pomeroy's got them behind both Michigan and a Maryland team they absolutely controlled. So, I'm good with just playing the games.

There are bench players that are the first and second subs into the game, who are often near starting quality that are pushed to the bench due to fit or need for development. Then there are bench players that are farther back in the rotation, who are often either inconsistent or situational players.
Sparks is a near ideal example of the latter. He really wants to be here, he plays really hard, and, most importantly, he provides a big strong body, that will be needed in conference play. Right now, he's here to primarily provide a big body to throw at the big goons in the BIG and other games where that is necessary. With another off season to develop he may be able to provide more in more situations but even if that is not the case, he will still be a player with a role to play.

I stated this over on HSN.  Expect the JMU nine to set the tone for the team.  Expect them to hold players accountable and tell them exactly what the coaches expect.  I would expect more discipline a d less dumb penalties with these new players helping to integrate the whole team into the CCC experience.
Whether they play or not look at these JMU players as culture spreaders.

Look, I wouldn’t expect all of the JMU guys to start, but I do think there’s a few who have a chance (Kidwell, Kamara, Fisher, Walker, Carpenter in particular), but we also need depth and, maybe more importantly, Cig wants to institute his culture at IU.

Even if a lot of them are nothing more than depth/rotational pieces, they know Cig and they know the system so it’s good to have those guys around.

Sure.  The B1G stinks.  Middle of the B1G is full of flawed teams like IU.   Northwestern best Purdue at home and then lost to Chicago St at home while being ranked.  Sparty lost to James Madison(good team) at home.   Do I think IU is going to compete for a B1G title? No I don’t think they will.  However they don’t need to compete for one to be a borderline tourney team.  Plenty of flawed teams find their way into the tournament every year so I don’t see why this IU team can’t find their way in with the B1G being down.

I see hyperbole is in full effect.
no one is happy with a one point win over morehead state.  But if you don’t think putting one in win column was better than putting one in the column, then I don’t know what to say.

The three non-conference losses are all quad ones.  I agree the Big Ten is probably a five bid league.  I take a look at a team like Northwestern's non-conference that is riddled with quad 4 wins as well as a quad 4 home loss to Chicago State and don't think it's as desperate as it seems.  Committee seems to put extra emphasis on three things -- high quality wins, low quality losses, and non-conference SOS.  IU won't have high quality non-con wins or low quality non-con losses, but the non-con SOS is pretty good.
Anyway, the bottom line is that IU will need to accumulate wins.  I think the way they showed today, if they can get X back, the ceiling is decent.

It was the biggest call of the game. Never want to depend on a single play but man the refs blew that call (and blew overall).

Now we have to go 20-0 in the Big Ten in order to have a chance to make the tournament.
Am I doing this right?  Seems like every post adds a win.

Same as when they make anticipation calls on drives.  There are billions of MBB dollars swishing around but somehow the NCAA can’t afford full time refs.
Todays crew should be fired but we will see them again.
