I disagree a little with the bolded part. I'm surprised I'm the one willing to play on the edge here -- @WayneFleekHoosier - where are you my man?!? :)
We have a reputation as a stodgy, used-to-be. These guys are not that. And yet they consistently pay reverence to the McCracken and Knight eras.
We need recruiting with heavy NIL and guys that are media savvy, and media interesting. These guys have Hollywood connections and the players let loose with Eric and Ward just enough -- they are good for the product on the floor and the program. Unless they get us in trouble - then they are dead to me!  :)

I think recruiting is fun to watch and speculate, but there is so much that can happen in these relationships, either way, that we don't have access to. A recruit could be all in half-way through the visit, and then hear or see some things that changes his mind. The same can be said for the staff. I'm sure there are times where the staff gets to spend more time around some players and realize for whatever reason that they aren't a good fit.
You don't just cancel the visit, but obviously your pitch probably changes a bit at that point. There are ways for either party to send signals that the attitude has changed. Sometimes you don't let on until the visit is over.
I guess what I'm saying is that I don't think it is as black and white as some on here make it out to be. Sometimes you spend a bunch of time wooing a girl and then once you get a chance to really spend time with her, you realize she requires a lot more maintenance than you have in your budget. Or maybe you notice her Adam's apple. Who knows, but things can and do change.

I'm betting it was his apparently sudden insistence on playing point guard. No way that was happening at IU and as soon as I saw his comments on playing point for Maryland I wrote him off.

Never really noticed a "sunshine pumper" lol what a strange term. Someone that roots for their team in a healthy way is wrong. Smh

Lowering expectations because we may not get Jamie Kaiser and DeShawn Harris-Smith, both of whom we didn’t know we were wanting just a few months ago?
Im not an optimist—I’m a realist. You didn’t ever see me saying that we were likely to get either of those players.
I did say we seem to have a plan of priority recruits or portal, and so far we have two players we prioritized. I do think that we’ll end up with four very good players to fill out the 2023 roster. If that makes me an eternal optimist…so be it.

You could argue it already has just not to where some fans want it.    This staff convinced 3 out of state 5 or high 4 stars to  join a program that hasn’t had a winning conference record in over 5 years and has made 1 tourney appearance.  I’m guessing NIL played a part in that.   NIL was always going to help but  to erase 20+ years of mediocrity for a program and all of sudden want NIL to move IU to front of the line again to be an instant factor would be a very optimistic take

You think that after 1 year under Woodson we should already be having the same recruiting results as the top programs after 2 decades of being mostly irrelevant? Wow. Maybe your expectations are a bit too high.
Woodson has had some good success so far at recruiting. It's kind of funny that the sky is suddenly falling after rumors of missing out on 2 good but not great recruits.

If a "down" year consists of a Cupps, Newton, and possibly Page, then count me in! Give me 4 years of Gabe Cupps in this system, over any one and done 5☆ pg! This kid alone, will attract talent to want to play alongside him. I believe we are underselling the impact he will have. Not saying he's the next Steve Nash, but he's a WINNER!

I actually don't get all the talk about Crean not using Zeller right? How was he supposed to use him that he didn't?
Zeller is an extremely athletic big man that can't shoot and doesn't really have above average post moves.
Crean built a fast-paced offense that utilized Zeller's end-to-end speed, athleticism and bball IQ. We often gave Zeller the ball at the top of the key to break down bigger, more plodding bigs and used his IQ with surrounding with shooters, etc.
The guy averaged 15.6ppg as a freshmen and over 16ppg as a sophomore on a team that had another All-American on it.

I agree and that was my point.
You mention his lack of shooting….A number of posters criticized Crean back in the day because Cody didn’t get more perimeter shots, “but he hit shots  in high school” etc etc., but years in the pros showed that the perimeter game was never a strength of his. Not to disparage Cody, as I think he was one of the most important IU players in the last 20 years, but I don’t get the narrative that Crean severely under utilized him.

To be fair I doubt any of the “Dukies” know whether it is Duke University or University of Duke.

I would be shocked if he is not a Hoosier by the start of classes. I keep hearing we are very confident 1 pops very soon and another shortly after. My best guess is Page and Harris Smith

Out of the 3 visits last week I would say I feel best about Page first with DHS being a close 2nd, then Kaiser. In order of committing to IU. Hopefully, hear something in the next two weeks or so.

Another way to put it is, "As much as we wanted to try, there is just no ******* way we can engineer sending this kid to Bradley University. So let's try to get Adams a job at a P5 school."
Here's to hoping that Indiana University is that school. Flory Bidunga is a very, very different player than Xavier Booker. We'd be crazy to not, within the rules, do whatever it takes to give us the best chance of making it happen.

One of the best pure basketball interviews I can remember in one of these. Also like that he referenced Woody’s 34 yrs in the NBA. Remembered the exact number. Was paying attention and filing information away. Impressive kid.

Wasn’t hard to follow where this recruitment was going.   Bread crumbs where there from the beginning.    Clearly woody was hesitant from the start.   Interviews early on talked about his relationship with the head coaches but when mentioning IU he mentioned the assistant coaches.     Some people questioned early on if IU would push hard and that would come down to the head coaches involvement.  They were right. Just follow where the coaches go first during the recruiting periods.  Multiple other recruits where higher on the priority list and it showed.   Give credit to Sparty for sticking with him through the good and bad( 0 points against Tech).   Ton of talent but also ton of unanswered questions moving forward.    Wish him the best moving forward.   This is one of those situations where the fan bases will probably view this as a bigger loss then the programs that actually recruited him.  I’m glad this recruitment is over

The Field of 68 has Trey Burke sitting at #7. He was a special player, but I'm still taking Zeller and Oladipo over him. Always.
It does bring me to another point, 2012-2013 was a special year. Not just because Indiana was really good, but because college basketball seen a lot of great college talent. They may not have turned into amazing pros and HOFs or anything, but as college players and college teams, there were several great ones. I still consider that the best Big Ten we've seen the past decade.

Completely agree. Zeller was dominant from the second he stepped foot on campus. Not sure why people tend to minimize it or forget it?
I think maybe part of it is just that he only stayed 2 years, where a guy like Yogi and even TJD now stayed 4 years. I also think what plays into that is we wanted Zeller to be our sort of Tyler Hansbrough or someone similar. Someone that stayed even when he could have left.
I really think that is part of it. But regardless, I still think Zeller is the most important, best, whatever you want to call it, player/recruit since the Crean era started.

Field of 68 is releasing their Top 25 players of the last decade. They have released their 21-25 shots so far.
    25. Paolo Banchero(Duke)
    24. Fred VanVleet(Wichita State)
    23. Armando Bacon(North Carolina)
    22. RJ Barrett(Duke)
    21. Victor Oladipo(Indiana)

So a couple things... It'll be interesting to see if TJD or Yogi are in the Top 20 which I don't believe they will be. Also that Cody Zeller is guaranteed to not be, even though Vic is 21st. For whatever reason, Zeller is just underrated at this point as a Hoosier.

I don't want to fall into the trap of pigeon-holing players into positions. There are always going to be lineups with different size/player combinations, and the hot hand in any given game will get extra run.
Maybe the best way to divide Woody's positional combos to put players into three sets:
Purely ball-handlers/points (X, JHS), Purely wings (Banks, Gunn, Kopp, Leal), and Players that are able to play on the block and guard the post (Trayce, Race, Malik, Duncomb). Then there are the players  that are between those three positional sets:  Bates, Gallo, and JG.
I tend to think that JG can be on the court at the same time as two of Trayce/Race/Malik. Not against every opponent, but against some. Against others maybe he plays some four.
