I feel like this would be a great year to go to my 1st IU football game. I'm very excited about IU football this year, looking forward to us finally going bowling.

I don't see any reason to worry about 2015. Everyone was worried about 2013, and 2014, and... we've got a great core of guys at IU now. Who really cares if we can't add anyone for next year? It'll all play itself out.

If certain guys show themselves to be unfit to be an Indiana player, then they probably won't want to play zero minutes and they'll find another opportunity. It's not really that difficult.

What I do know is if there's an opportunity to add someone who will make a difference in 2015, Crean will exhaust all options to do it.

I will say I don't understand how a kid like Swanigan or another 2015 post can't look at this team and see a gaping hole in the middle and immediate playing time. There's an opportunity there for someone just like there was with Cody.

My uneducated guess (this actually may be more of my hope).

Two man class:  Morgan and Milton

Three man class if a 5* suddenly gets the urge to wear candy stripes.  (Maker reclassification, etc.)

Another 3 days and Izzo would have offered Holt!

CTC set him up by looking like he was all in for Kasongo and when Izzo bit, we quickly got the pledge from Emmitt, before he had time to discover the ruse. :sarcastichand:

There's enough people in Idaho to have a Southern school?
Can someone shed some light on this.. This kid had HUGE upside from a basketball perspective and was done deal to IU. Now he is looking at Michigan State after we turn him down? Seems like we should have found a way to get the kid admitted.
Revisit the Kelvin Sampson days... Everything isn't about production on the court anymore, and shouldn't be.

My favorite line from the article (and maybe one of the best entertainment-value lines ever written in a recruiting blog!):

"On his official visit on August 18th, word on the street was that Indiana decided to have Dwyane Wade, Victor Oladipo and others in town to help impress Holt."

Can you imagine?

"Hey Dwayne, Vic, Cody, Norris, Udonis. This is Tom Crean."
"Whaa? No. Bloomington. YES, I'm still there!"
"Anyway, I need all of your help. I have Emmitt Holt in for an official on Monday."
"No, I'm not kidding. Yes. THE Emmitt Holt!"
"Don't ask me how I made it happen. Just know that: It. Is. Happening."
"I know that you all would do anything for me. Well not anything - sorry Cody, I promise I'll never ask you to babysit my cat again."
"Anyway, as you might expect, I am very nervous about the Holt visit and I need you all here, as they said on nextuprecruit.com, to help impress Holt."
"What's that Udonis? Yes, I can get you a picture of you with Holt."
"How's that Dwayne? No. Holt is mine. You cannot use him to replace LeBron!"

Excerpts from a recent story:

Vermont Academy forward Emmitt Holt has been one of the nation’s biggest risers in the July live period.

Holt caught the eye of the Saint Joseph’s staff out in Sacramento where he was showing off his 7-foot-3 wingspan and blocking shots into oblivion,

Holt’s unique body combined with his wide ranging skillset makes him one of the more intriguing power forward prospects in the country.

“He’s versatile because of his ability to pass the basketball,” Popp said. “He can guard multiple positions. He’s listed at 6-7 but his wingspan is 7-3. He has one of those Elton Brand bodies. You see him and you have to kind of look at him a little bit to take in exactly what his body is like. He has these size 18 sneakers so we’re convinced that he’s still growing. He has the baby face with the million-dollar smile.

The unique facet of Holt’s recruitment is being able to match basketball opportunity with a strong academic situation where the forward can study business.

Honestly just another player. Couldn't get in to IU so I'm glad it won't happen. That honestly makes me happier than him somehow getting in.

I love our basketball team and all athletic teams at IU, but I love my diploma from IU & the Kelley School the most. Protect that diploma!!! :)
Yeah, that's not true on Vic. He had offers from Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Xavier, Pitt and others. Those aren't on the same level of an IU (neither is Maryland), or where we should be, but that is a pretty solid list.

Rankings are far from a science, but generally there is degree of accuracy. If no one has ever heard of a recruit, there is probably a reason. If a recruit ONLY has offers from small programs, there is probably a reason.
I agree that the Vic comparison has been stretched a bit in a way to justify low rank signings. I do think he's a good example of Crean's ability to see beyond rankings and find talent. But it's shaky at best to assume he sees something Vic-like in a player like Holt.

Sent from my place of advanced, analytical thinking: the toilet.

Ouch. This hurts. Although I will say I'm proud of us for sticking to the academic guidelines. I admittedly don't know much about this Holt kid, but at this point I'd rather just move on with what we've got.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but an IU coach who's going into his seventh season shouldn't be scrambling to fill open scholarships in August. If anything, this is just another example of Crean and that artist analogy I made awhile back.
