The fans aren't going to the games?

    Baaahahahahahahaha! Intramurals don't count!

    AREAS OF COACHING

The difference between success and failure in most instances doesn't come down to a single bounce of the ball. Your being naive if you think any game comes down to one play. What matters is everything that happens prior to at point. Example, Green Bay vs. Seattle. The muffed onside kick did not lose the playoff game for GB, the plays and decisions up to that point did. Not going for touchdowns on the one, conservative fourth quarter play, etc..., lost the game. Same thing in basketball, missed free throws, wasted inbounds plays, not altering your opponents gameplan all contribute, but NEVER a single play. Crean is not capable of adjusting his gameplan as things develop, period.

    AREAS OF COACHING

Struggles are one thing, bad coaching is not knowing how to beat a 2-3 zone, make adjustments during a game, or realize that we could have closed out a few games with decent free throw shooting, I didn't miss any point, it just seems that the 'point' keeps changing.

The fans aren't going to the games?

Schoo, I'll credit you on nailing crean for his real-time strategy, this was apparent against Syracure. Having coached myself, i can say that that can be the most difficult aspect of coaching, that's why it takes a special coach to be successful. It is much easier to make adjustments to the game from a distance than in the middle of action. No doubt lacking the quick thinking, detached from the personal aspects of the game type thinking hurts his coaching.

Contract buyout is too big, we are stuck with two more seasons.

    Defense! Defense! Defense!

Right on. One and done, unless our opponent plays NBA style ball like us.

    Upset with recruiting?

    Yes she did

    Upset with recruiting?

Not just basketball, all sports. We've gotten lazy with recruiting. Example, my daughter played on number one ranked volleyball team in indiana last year. Ranked number 16 in the nation, lost only 4 sets the entire regular season. Four hitters 6' or taller, excellent defense, with a 9 point per set win advantage. Three of the girls are playing D1 elsewhere. IU did not even watch one of their games, let alone recruit any of the players. This from one of the bottom teams of the big ten. It's almost like they preferred recruiting from out of state because the recruiter didn't have confidence in indiana volleyball play. I see it every time I look at rosters, the only exception being womens crew.

    Upset with recruiting?

Excellent point, one I've tried making about many IU sports for the past 10 years. The problem is that recruiters are lazy these days and want to go to AAU cattle calls where they can scout several players at once. Used to be that they would show at the high school gyms. Combine that with recruiting services that are essentially agents, and you can see where we are.

    AREAS OF COACHING

Crean's recruiting is disjointed, there's a misconception that having all 'five star' recruits makes a great team. If you recruit five great shooters and no ball handlers or rebounders, you live and die with shooting. He has done well at recruiting shooters. X and o, he can be good at timeouts, but is not as good now as he as two years ago, but this is due in large part to the lack of inside players. Pr, not so good. Needs to shoulder the blame for losses. His strategy of recruiting shooters, and trying to out bomb teams may win games, but defense wins championships. Not good with game adjustments, can't recognize options well as demonstrated by Syracuse. Gets in a rut, and hopes to shoot the way out. Overall, is offense minded, but NBA style offense doesn't work well against college teams, too many good defensive teams to try one-on-one style play.

There is, it's called hustle every play like it's your last.

    Defense! Defense! Defense!

Darn right! Better yet coach Mike Lightfoot from Bethel. Four time national NAIA, NJCCA and NCAA Div. 2 coach to teach aggressive defense and teamwork!
  17. An interesting question, since we all know that athletics were originally intended for students, but are funded in large part by alumni. Not a fair answer to say both should have equal, because both have different levels of involvement.
  18. Right. Varsity Club's function is to fund scholarships for student- athletes, thus supplementing athletics revenue. Do you think Varsity Club has influence with Fred Glass?
  19. If you read the report carefully, you are correct that 35% of current revenue comes from fees, however, before adding outside sources of revenue, IU is in the hole for $643,000,000! Other revenue sources are the saving factor.
  20. I would disagree. Endowments are BY FAR the store of wealth at IU. The buildings being built are not funded by student fees when professors each cost $100000+ per year. Many current students don't even live on campus, use campus dining, etc..., I doubt your $8000 in tuition boosts the coffers. The big bucks come from alums, TV, the State of Indiana, and the sale of IU branded items. Athletics already budgets for each sport, and the numbers are hardly inconsequential. Volleyball, for example, has a $3 mil budget, and that's a minor.

    Defense! Defense! Defense!

Not so sure they wouldn't flunk out of classes that weren't sports related. Nonetheless defensive play begins with an unselfish mindset, this team doesn't have that character.

What are expectations for this program?

I'd just like a team that graduates athletes and is coached to play beyond expectations. For me, these would be a step in the right direction, and something IU could be proud of. Currently, with player misbehavior, and poor coaching, low graduation rates, etc..., we are a shell of our former self. We are edging closer to being Kentucky without the wins.

    WTFFFFFFF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

they would practice with the team as a redshirt. Many footballers redshirt as is.

    WTFFFFFFF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Great idea! Let's go back to student-athlete, instead of semi-pro,part-time student.

    IU vs. Purdue Postgame Thread

The difference between team play and five individuals. Remember how IU passed and moved just last year, compare team play between the two. Where are our role players?
