Top IU Starting Five Since You Remember Watching IU Basketball
Bigdaddy76 replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Thomas Alford Cheaney May Benson Bench Yogi Wilkerson Kitchell Vonleh Zeller / Tolbert God I'm old! I was torn between Tolbert and Zeller. Also really wanted to put Buckner in for the other point guard. I never got to see Bellamy or McGinness play for IU -
If this has been asked before, please forgive me! Is it possible that oversigning these kids is actually a detriment to recruiting? I know that CTC's philosophy, is that it all works itself out. But at what cost? I have to believe that somewhere along the way that there had to be some hurt feelings. That could lead to "you don't wanna go there, they will just use you and throw you away" Thoughts?

I graduated from BNL in 1985. Very surprised to see another Star on here. I have been gone from Indiana since 90. I do get back to visit about every summer though. You are right. Although there was a lot of jealousy from other schools during Damons career, I always saw him to be a class act. Very humble. There was a rumor a few years back that IU was gonna hire Alford, and Damon and Cheaney were going to be assistants. Not sure how accurate that was though.

Not meant to hurt anybody's feelings, but maybe some "new blood" is what we need on our coaching staff. I mean, yeah it's gonna be a pain to fill another asst. position, but maybe that's a good thing. new ideas, more energy, etc.

I thought the same thing about having too much talent....after all there is only 1 ball to go around. As long as Cal stays there, they will have no problem with the ncaa. Its after he leaves that they will start having problems. For some reason. wink wink, he never knows any of the wrongdoing of his past schools. I personally can't wait for him to be gone! -
I was thinking he could be a Jared Sullinger type player. But I didn't realize that Sullinger was actually 6"9. I swear that I thought he was only 6"7 or so at OSU

I also really appreciate this thread. Hope we can keep the pessimism away! I'm gonna go out on a limb here. I really feel like with the league being down, that we are gonna finish no less than 2nd or 3rd. I like Wisky as the favorite as well. But I just don't see a lot of difference in all the other teams right now. That being said, I am hoping that we had our down year last yr. and we should be much improved. The best thing about Freshman, is that they turn into Sophomores and so forth. I still really feel that we are gonna see a much better HMP in the post. I also think that the guards and wings are gonna have a better understanding of the offense i.e. when to drive, when to shoot. Think about this for a second. THE biggest problem last year was our turnovers! If we can even cut those in half, we are gonna be a solid team. That combined with a down league, should give us a heads up on the other teams. IMHO

If you are serious. There is a lady on youtube that i follow. Her name is Karen Ramirez. Her lessons are pretty easy to understand. Pretty sure that they are all free too. I have never heard her stump for money. She has helped me a lot understanding music theory!

Its kinda interesting that the psone, and the ps2 I got them right when they 1st came out. I waited for the price drop on the ps3. I guess its just priorities. Haha Prolly do the same thing with the ps4. I have seen the demos at gamestop though...they do look amazing
-
Have a PS3..could buy ps4, i have enough money saved in my guitar stash. haha. I'm just not sure that I want to have to pay 50 bucks a year to play on-line. I am currently over 180 hrs into Skyrim. To me, maybe the best game ever for ps3. I was into NCAA as well, I didn't know that they were gonna stop making it. I guess the lawsuit has got em scared. I also have Rocksmith. Used it a little bit, helped me some.. I understand that the 2014 version is way better. I absolutely played the crap out of Gran Turismo 5 I prefer to not buy my games when they 1st come out, saves big cash. I don't get a chance to play like I used to though. Prolly another reason that I haven't moved to PS4 yet. I do want to play The Story of US and the Walking Dead game.....Huge Dead fan!

Didn't Judson play at Wisconson? I remember the name, but dang I'm getting old!

It's 2008, a look into the Crystal Ball
Bigdaddy76 replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I don't know that much about him, but was using that type of coach as a scenario. But for curiosity, What is it that is bad. I thought that he had a pretty good record at Memphis? -

I do agree with you about replacements for TC. But, I do believe that it would be a lot different this time around. BK is Looong gone. So there wouldn't be this "I don't want to be the guy that follows him syndrome" or the " I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings scenario" There also would not, or should not be any sanctions left over for the new coach. That being said, pretty much anyone that you get is gonna be an unknown. Its not like Izzo, or Pitino, or any other established coach is gonna come knocking. But I can't see why it wouldn't be attractive to like a Josh Pastner, or a Gregg Marshall, or someone of that ilk. -

There are two schools of thought on that. Yours is one. The other is. Lets cut the cord as soon as we can, so we might actually be able to start the healing earlier. It was kinda the same thing when MD was the coach. He might very well have made a good coach at IU But was anybody really willing to wait around for him to learn on the job. I think that is whats so frustrating to me about TC. If I actually saw any signs that the program was gonna get any better from a coaching philosophy standpoint, I might be inclined to wait a while. But when I see the same things happening over and over again. i.e. Yogi being allowed to drive to the basket and leave his feet and try to find a pass in the air, or being able to actually draw up a play off an in bounds that will score. Those are things that even high school coaches can do. Yet our esteemed leader can not. Those kinds of things drive me and I am sure a lot of others crazy! All you have to do is coach good fundamental basketball. That's what IU fans are used to. That's what IU fans should expect! IMO -
Wow! This was good reading! Sorry, but I love the banter. Ya'll can count me as one that is VERY frustrated with the whole state of the program right now. But, what is cool about this forum is that in the end, we are all Hoosier fans through and through. I know that we all want the best for our team, even if we all see it a little different. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this community. It is fun to be able to talk IU sports when I live so far away.

Kenny Johnson to Louisville

I love how everyone says that Crean brought us back from the dead....But lets be serious! We are freakin Indiana University! It was bound to happen, the school and program sells itself. Remember, Mike Davis took us to the final 4! These people need to take a break with all the back from the ashes crap. Sheesh! -

I agree with every post in this thread....Why oh why couldn't someone have interviewed the guy that wrote this story before we hired Crean. It is just uncanny how true all of the things that he wrote in this article are. My dad used to always tell me. A zebra can not change his stripes, and it sure is true in this case. -
How do ya'll feel about the old administration going completely away from the RMK tree? I guess that I kind of understand why. But I think that's what has set us back a little with the past hires. Look what Iowa St. has done with Hoiberg. Or how about Ollie with UConn. I know that Calhoun didn't exactly go out on a great note when he left there as well. But someone had the foresight to keep what tradition that they had going.

Rick Adelman to Retire: Izzo to MIN?
Bigdaddy76 replied to Bryan Medema's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Personally, I would love to face Crean at MSU. It would make sense for him, and for us too. Maybe we could finally hire a coach that wouldn't be worried about RMK's shadow, wouldn't have to deal with sanctions, and most of all get us back to winning .....CONSISTENTLY! -
This may be a little premature. Lets say Coach Wilson gets the ship righted within the next couple years and becomes a hot coaching commodity. Do ya'll think that the the Admin. ponys up and pays him, or do they go ahead and let him go? I don't know the exact numbers, but I am sure his pay pales in comparison to the rest of the coaches in Big 10. I know, crimson colored glasses. haha But I really have a good feeling about where this team is headed!

I really like this scenario..Especially the one including Crapilari hahaha -
I like Yogi Blackmon Williams Davis Perea I really like Davis at the 4 with his strength, and Williams at the 3 with his leaping ability. I just don't see Williams as a 4 at all, unless he takes up a more athletic Watford role. I really hope for BIG things from Hanner this year, and I like Robinson as the 6th man. It will all change depending on transfers etc.

Rick Adelman to Retire: Izzo to MIN?
Bigdaddy76 replied to Bryan Medema's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Seriously...I would expect them to hire the ass. coach there. I think his name is Stevens. Thats what they did with Izzo. I think that dude has been there for like 10 yrs as an assistant or something. Recruiting could be an issue though. Its to the point that players commit to a coach now rather than a school. That being said, wouldn't hurt my feelings if they wanted to take Tommy Boy off our hands. Never gonna happen though! -
The Ideal Recruiting Finish for 2014
Bigdaddy76 replied to KelleyHoosh's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Yeah, Frank Martin is getting it done. I live down here, and they haven't had any success in basketball in years. As a closet SC fan I am happy for them. Just not at the expense of my Hoosiers! lol -
The Ideal Recruiting Finish for 2014
Bigdaddy76 replied to KelleyHoosh's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
We SHOULD be able to beat out Bradley for Cunningham, right? I mean dang, if that is the 2 that he is down to, surely we would have to be the pick! Bradley, really! I like the Cunningham kid as well, and to me, any other kid that has a mid range game. I really feel like this team needs that. Its great to have the athleticism and dunks and all, but ya gotta have a glue guy. Bad comparison rt now. But, look at the Pacers before David West, and then now. Not RIGHT now, haha but ya'll know what I mean.
