These things are expected when you're in his position.   As much as they're cool, "feel-good," and all to be commended, he's not unique to this, and because there's a story about it, I'm a little disappointed.  People should be good to one another no matter what job they hold, and he's in a no-win position here.  Because there's a story, it "looks" like he's staging some things in order to get noticed.  I don't necessarily buy that, but looks can kill.  Knight did very similar things all the time, and nobody in the media did stories about it.   I know a guy in Martinsville whom Knight helped out of a mangled car in a wreck and rode with him to Morgan County Hospital.   I also know of dozens of kids he visited at Riley Children's Hospital, and lots of bills he paid for people.    No news story.  And what Knight did for Landon Turner even beyond the charity basketball games is the stuff of legend.

I guess while I think it's neat, I don't think anyone needs to be more or less patient or more or less critical.  I expect the basketball coach at Indiana to be a good guy.   And Crean is for the most part.   I just don't think he's different from, say, Tom Izzo or Rick Pitino; both of whom I know for sure are both charitable and very good to human kind.   Crean still has to win.  Consistently.

In so many other threads we talk about playing for the name on the front of the Jersey.   I am always amazed about the passion that some have in regards to playing for the brand that makes the Jersey.

I know I am old and also old fashioned, but I could not care less about the brand.  Just the team name on the jersey.

. You're right! I didn't even think of the Cuban Center. I suppose I'm being a bit cynical towards the admin. after all these years of wallowing in mediocrity. When you consider all of the facility upgrades the past few years, along with what is coming, it does suggest that our admin is trying to be a player with the rest of the nations elite. My patience has just worn thin on seeing a perennial contender out of our Hoosiers. The Adidas deal frustrated me for the sole reason that I view Adidas as the least coolest brand in basketball. That, coupled with the fact that I haven't really developed a full understanding of the details of our upcoming improvements. Pardon the pessimism. I'm good for about 2-3 a month. Double that during basketball season. Triple that after a loss.

I'm sorry but I think a lot of this is simply BS.  Our facilities as a whole are some of the best around.  IU has spent Millions making it so.  Is AH a little outdated, yep, and they are working on that as I type this.  The kind of money we are getting from this dying brand, is one of things making it possible to keep up.

You talk about flexing muscle like a blueblood, well having one of the top clothing deals in terms of money is doing exactly that.
The bottom line, though is IU is not nor has it ever been a blueblood in college athletics.  Sure we HAD a good Basketball team, but outside of soccer all of our other programs have been bottom dwellers. In regards to the banners, outside of IU fans, they don't carry any weight with anyone, and they haven't for about 15 years.

IU is about a lot more than just a basketball program.  It amazes me how no one ever seems to remember that. Thank Goodness our Athletic Director does.

As a big UA fan I'll be the first to admit Adidas has lost its cool factor, however, I'd rather be Adidas's #1 college basketball brand than UA's or Nike's tenth best.

I think you're way discounting Cook Hall.  Having walked through and gotten private tours of that facility our players have locker rooms, weight rooms, training facilities and film rooms that make them feel like superstars. Look at some quotes from recruits when they visit, look at some quotes from national reporters who have been everywhere, look at the fact that former players come back to work out there in the offseason, Cook Hall is a top 10 facility.

Once Assembly Hall is completed the University will have invested over $70 million in Cook Hall and Assembly Hall.  In addition to that the entire academic center has refurbished in Memorial Stadium and it is an amazing space for the players.  PLUS we have the Cuban Center which provides us with amazing technology that no one else has.  It is an arms race for sure in college athletics that I agree with you on but if you think IU isn't flexing its muscles in that arms race you have not been paying attention and are out of touch.

I never "worry"about IU football.  but I always start the year with HOPE that this is the year.  Sometimes it does seem like the program has a curse like the Billy Goat.

If I thought an animal sacrifice at the 50 yard line under a full moon would do any good.  I would have broken into Memorial Stadium years ago..  :)
