Question on Brea:  how does a volume 50% three point shooter who gets 29 minutes/game only average 11 points per game?

He’s got the Nick Zeisloft stat line. Played over 900 minutes and took 45 2pt looks and 16 free throws. Actually, that’s probably harsh on Nick.

Last weekend an event in California called WestMania was presented by MADE Hoops.  Rob Cassidy did a summary earlier today and a new name popped up reportedly with IU interest.  Winters Grady a 6'7" SF attends Prolific Prep.

Grady is a shooter’s shooter and showed just how lethal he can be from deep on Friday night, as his 3-point snipping almost single handedly kept Jalen Green Elite in the game against Arizona Unity. The four-star guard is more than just a specialist, however, as he flashed a high-level motor and some toughness on the defensive end, where he made physical plays and routinely contested shots at the rim. Grady has become a much more apt shot creator in the last year and has proven his skill set goes well beyond being a reliable catch-and-shoot option. Currently ranked as the No. 66 prospect in the Rivals150, Grady could leap into the top 40 or so if he continues on his current trajectory.

Recruitment: UCLA, Oregon and Indiana are all involved with Grady as things stand but it seems likely that new programs will push into the fray this summer. Washington has also offered, but it’s unclear how hard the Huskies are pushing at the time.

He plays AAU on the 3SSB circuit for Jalen Green (CA) and at the event held a week ago he averaged 23.8 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 1.8 APG, 1.0 SPG

Shot lights out at the Chipotle Nationals. Hair trigger release and NBA range. Kind of a 1 trick pony on offense, but if you're gonna have 1 trick he's got the right one. Should be able to defend and competed hard.

Per 24/7 Roddy Gayle Jr. committed to Michigan yesterday

So, basically, OSU has traded Gayle and Okpara for Bradshaw and Meechie Johnson. Unless Bradshaw blows up I’m  struggling to see how they’ve gotten better. I’d take Gayle over Johnson straight up without a thought.

I don't see how we could land a player with those kind of minutes and production for the limited roles we appear to have left to offer. Maybe money will be enough, assuming we still have a lot after the guys already acquired, but Goode seems a reach at this point to me.

I agree. I don't see how a kid like him looks at our 6 scholarship guards, out MCDAA freshman wing and our MCDAA combo forward and sees an obvious path to sustained rotation minutes. They may be there and that may not be there at all. I imagine they'll be able to fill the backup 4-5 fairly easily because they can sell that as 20 minute rotational role, though barring injury I doubt that's how that will actually go, but for a wing shooter that's gonna be tough.

And I believe Anderson would say and did say no thank you, other teams want me more than that.

I’m sure that’s right. The Max Bielfeldt’s and Anthony Walker’s of the world, experienced guys willing to take undefined roles that could be very small, are tough pulls.

At some point someone that matters is going to step up and say that TJ McConnell is fun, but actually stinks. I’m so tired of watching him play basketball.

I like him as a piece over the course of a season because on the 2nd night of some back to back in January he’s gonna be the hardest playin’ dude on the floor and probably steal you a couple of games. But playoff basketball mitigates every single thing he brings you. And when he’s shot hunting, man.

When I was in HS we (boys team) always 1) measured in shoes and 2) surely rounded up from at least .5. So you can easily get an extra 1” or 1.5” from those two in concert, as I’m sure you know.

It’s always a hoot where some of those end up. I’m 6’4” and the number of kids listed as 6’5”, because that’s the magic number for college wings, that I’ve looked down on has always made me laugh. Happened just a couple of weeks ago with VJ Edgecombe. Listed at 6’5” and I’m taller than he is.

Top 3 in the B1G and an Elite 8 should be the expectations.  No excuse for anything less.

    But the pundits have concerns.

So if they’d brought on Essegian or Hickman they’d look at this team significantly differently? These guys wear their hot take stupidity like a freaking merit badge.

Carlyle is more or less a legit 6’3”. About the same height as Woody. I’m 6’0”” without shoes and he was noticeably taller than me.

PS; I stood next to Mackenzie Holmes, Chloe, and Garzon on the Little 500 concourse yesterday.

Felt like Chloe was a little shorter than me, Garzon was an inch or two taller than me, and Holmes is 100% legit 6’3”.

So Rice is 6’4”, so much the better. And I don’t know if it’s actually true, but’s it’s always seemed to me like girl’s measurements are almost always accurate while a decent percentage of boy’s are definitely exaggerated.

I’ve got a really nice story for you all:

I just had a Bloomington college frat reunion weekend. A bunch of guys in their 50’s reminiscing. A truly perfect end to the weekend?

Five of us walking down the stairs of the Union after brunch at the Tudor Room at 11:15 this morning.

Waiting for us at the bottom of the stairs in the Union Hotel lobby? Woody and Walsh with Kaanan Carlyle and his mom. We chatted up Carlyle for two or three minutes and congratulated him—shook his hand and welcomed him to the family. He’s got a really easy smile and nice way about him. Looked us all in the eye and had that “Indiana is different” happy look.

Handshakes with Woody: “love you Coach-great month we’re having.” Woody handshake back- “appreciate it guys.” Talked with him for a minute or two. Trailing behind us was Ya, Kenya, and a very wide awake and engaged Armond Hill.

    Great stuff.

That’s better than average. Question: Is Carlyle a legit 6’3”? Curious because he and Rice are both listed 6’3” and yet in that picture from their visit Rice is clearly taller. So either Rice is 6’4” or Carlyle is 6’2”.

Okpara from Ohio State in portal after Bradshaw  commit.  He had confirmed he’d be back. Someone was in his ear.

Not sure OSU came out ahead on that one. Maybe offensively, but Okpara’s a defensive menace and plays with his hair on fire every minute.

  12. Remember Ya doing a, I believe, Hysterics podcast the summer he was hired and talking about how IU was a different environment and not everybody’s wired for this and what a consideration that was in extending offers and thinking, “Oh, so that’s why they’re not offering Kanaan Carlyle.”  Yeah, I’m a freaking genius.

Gillis potentially to Duke just seems odd

Would love to see the look on Cooper Flagg’s face the 1st time he tries to post Gillis in some June pick up game and catches 1 of those surgically accurate Purdue elbows right in his kidney as Gillis is flopping and calling him for an offensive foul.

  14. I am floored by this. A new Libertines album for the 1st time in gotta be 10 years. I just assumed one of those dudes would have killed the other ages ago. Always liked them. Their best music is terrific, though the range of outcomes was always pretty wide. Haven’t listened to it yet, but really happy that they’re still alive and kicking.
