Caleb Love - UNC Transfer to Arizona
Demo replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Here’s my thing on Love: and I can’t think of another player i’ve thought this about: his jump shot improving in college hurt his game. Saw him a lot in HS. Liked him, didn’t love him because he floated for too many stretches. But he had 2 things that really stood out: 1) He was an elite on ball defender. Great lateral movement. Disciplined with his hands. He could shut really good kids down. 2) He could get downhill on almost anyone and finished easily through contact. When CBC needed a basket they’d go 4 low and he’d just drive it and get a shot or a foul. If that player showed up in Bloomington minus the inactive stretches and could wean himself off some of the really bad looks, would take him in a second. But he has so fallen in love with the 3 ball and all that freedom. Hubert did that kid no favors. -
https://247sports.com/longformarticle/transfer-snafus-nil-shenanigans-and-an-empty-roster-why-michigan-210421495/#2169997 The 1st 90% of this reads like it came from Howard’s publicist before Trotter’s editor got involved for the last couple of paragraphs. Still an interesting summary.

Today is 6 yrs since Chris Cornell passed. Sure, it’s trite as hell, but when something’s true, it’s true: no one sings like you anymore.

Nice find. Also find it interesting that I have yet to see an article, comment or tweet from any Michigan fan or writer that blames Love. They know the deal. -

Yup. Back in the day K recruited a Chicago PG named Sean Dockery who was considered such an academic nonstarter that he had very few offers and wasn’t even recruited by Illinois. But he got into Duke. -

They do, but Gates would have no problem playing 4 guards. He did it a lot last year, and Love would be a major upgrade. -

Couldn’t get Terrance Shannon in last year, supposedly an academic issue. They may not be pushing Howard out by design, but they’re gonna get it done all the same. Will be shocked if it’s not Mizzou. -

He did an ITH podcast after the Archie hiring and answered 1 question with something like, “I really don’t see any scenario in which he fails.” Takes don’t get much colder than that one. -
Played 3 power conference games last year, Colorado, Oregon and Creighton, and averaged 16 on almost 50% shooting. Would be a 1-year guy. That profile certainly makes sense.

Dude just jinxed the living hell out of that one.

Probably my favorite right now anyway, he's great on Big East games, but Andrew Catalon's calls on Purdue-Fairleigh and Memphis-FAU were fantastic.

Linton’s Joey Hart granted his NLI release by UCF. Is Indiana State the move here?

Love this. The best who ever did it.

There was another “kid” in the portal this cycle who started his career the same year. Can’t remember his name. And once the Covid year cycles, yeah, that’s probably an unbreakable record.

2024 General Recruiting Thread (BBall)

Very talented, and his numbers this weekend were a little skewed by a really bad night from deep on Friday. He compensated by driving the ball a lot, which was actually pretty impressive. Other than that he shot it fine. What I’d be curious to know from someone with knowledge of him is: Is he selfish or just immature? After having seen him a few times now, he’s got a consistent habit where if he goes 3 or 4 possessions a little uninvolved, his body language goes a certain way and you just KNOW that the next trip he’s gonna find the ball and it’s going up. He also gets pretty visibly annoyed if he gets missed for an open look. Hopefully he’s just young. -

Must be a pretty decent sports school all around. Flashed a graphic at 1 point and their HC’s record in 7 seasons was something like 140-30. -

The Derik Queen comments are interesting. Sort of felt like they had begun to move on from him a bit. Apparently not. -

Watching Acuff’s State Championship game from March right now. I have to guess he didn’t play travel ball last summer because the only way he’s not a highly, highly rated kid is lack of exposure. Seriously, any idiot sees it. Great frame, quick, strong, solid handle, great stroke, playing under control. This has been a pleasure to watch. Really looking forward to watching more. -

Looking forward to finding some Cass Tech games. The highlight clips look a lot like Darius Garland. -
No thoughts yet on what it might look like, but on that Bahamas trip in ‘21 they ran a fair amount of 4 out motion that they completely punted by the time the season rolled around. The current personnel grouping looks more agreeable to that sort of thing.

Oh no, you’re right, I just meant in this particular posting. On Friday he was completely sideways. -

https://www.kuhearings.com/p/happened-mackenzie-mgbako If you’ve got a minute, take a read, and keep in mind that this is one of the less unhinged KU insiders. He may even be fairly accurate in at least the timing of events. But I am just floored at the entitlement on display considering that they stone cold bought Hunter Dickinson and yet find any steps anybody else might take on a kid to be somehow questionable. -
Lawrence makes perfect sense for IU. No idea if IU makes sense for Lawrence. Would be surprised if they don’t inquire. Read a couple of places after he entered the portal that he has a kid now and money’s a thing for him. If that’s true, would think geography would be a factor for him as well.
