2025 General Recruiting Thread (BBall)

Not at all. It’s probably exactly what the pitch should be. But that’s a touch different than the way I read it. -

https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/recruiting-roundup-hemenway-to-vandy-indiana-elite-trio-shining-on-adidas-circuit/ Couple of interesting things here: 1) Apparently, Sisley, Mullins and Moreno are trying to coordinate their official visits together. 2) I’d be curious to hear this in full context, but Moreno suggests that he’s being sold on walking in and starting. That might well happen strictly on merit, but I don’t remember any other recruit specifically suggest they were promised anything. -

Makes sense. No idea what he's studying but there are worse degrees to have then that one. -
(2023) - SG Jakai Newton to INDIANA

I imagine you’re right about that. With the exception of Bryson Tiller, who’s actually an older ‘25, when Ya was offering all of those Atlanta kids a couple of years ago almost without exception they were like 16 yo juniors. Wasn’t sure if that was a Georgia educational thing or Ya just gravitating to higher upside kids. -

Good, the sooner the better. Sort of hope he ends up at the Adidas Eurocamp rather than playing USA basketball because he’d be measured at the Adidas event. Still listed at 6’11” pretty much everywhere and I’m guessing he’s taller than that. I’m betting he’s closer to 7’1” and maybe 7’3” or 7’4” reach. -

It seems to be a Georgia thing. Several of the Georgia kids IU’s offered have been young for the class. Wilkins was really young. He’ll play his entire freshman year at Georgia as a 17yo. Rice is going into his 4th year of college and I believe he’s not 21 yet. -

Turns 19 today. Got to confess, it feels a little strange now that these kids are younger than my youngest. -
So that’s considered room for the defender to react? Huh

I'm almost never "the refs jobbed us" guy, but that was pretty ugly. But the 2 misses late, and the idea that you'd call a highly, highly questionable illegal screen after 47:45 of not calling a single 1 is......something, masked the 1 that just floors me, the overturned foul call on Brunson. That was easy, it was obvious, and there were multiple unobstructed angles. That's a foul. They get it right on the floor, then the replay office overturns it from right to wrong and supplies that poor Ref with a comically bad rationale. He got the ball clean and any contact after is deemed incidental? Really, is that how that works? Putting aside that he obviously bodied Turner on the block, he then went through him in the continuity of the play. That's a foul. It's always been a foul. Every level. No exceptions. Changing that is insane. And if they'd rightly stayed with the call, Thibs wouldn't have had a challenge on the missed call on the sideline. Imo they had a really bad last 5 or 6 minutes. Really bad.

Not with you on that one. Thought that was a deeply stupid overly aggressive play by Nembhard.

If you would have told me that Haliburton and Nesmth would both be lousy, and they have been, and the Pacers would be competitive, let alone having a shot at winning it I would have said no chance. And what was that BS screen call? You have got to be kidding me.

3 notable things from Edmonds’ stat line: 1) Committed more fouls per minutes played last year than Reneau playing in the AAC while being in no way a rim protector. 2) Shot 45% from the line. 3) Dished out 10 assists in 33 games. Yeesh

Darius Garland is putting together a John Starks-level elimination game performance. Both ends. Not sure what the deal is but the game is moving so fast in his brain right now that I don’t think he’s playable.

3SSB is really pi$$ing me off this year given how many IU priority targets are playing that circuit. Whereas EYBL offers perfectly fine free streams on their site, 3SSB is affiliated with BallerTV and you have to buy a $25 day pass to watch. Not even a 3 day event pass. A day pass. With no idea if their streams are even any good. Nah.

This will be a really interesting situation to follow. Have always felt like Bennett would never leave UVA because he had the chance to win there without the pressurized expectations of typical power conference jobs, which he clearly wants no part of. But this new reality may force him to choose between his comfort zone and being able to compete year in year out.

Spectacular find this week looking for artists I didn’t know. Adia Victoria is a blues/roots/Americana/little bit of everything artist from South Carolina. Listened to her ‘21 album A Southern Gothic and it is fantastic. Apparently spends more time writing poetry than making music and I can see that. She writes great, great stories in her music. Picked the one above, which is not actually 1 of my favorites, solely for the lyric, “I got it in me to burst into flames. Let the whole world burn. Let the ashes rain” Damn

Suppose we’ll see. The Miller fit for IU is obvious. The IU fit for Miller is a lot less so. He’s a 20 minute HM kid right now and that’s not what’s available here. Maybe he buys the development pitch, but a lot of places can offer development and also actual minutes. -
Had never heard of him and then he had a huge game in the SoCon tournament final. Imagine he'll have a great list.

I agree. I’d rather see them invest in a younger kid with more of a ceiling and a chance to be more than just filling a gap in the roster. I just feel something like this is where they’re gonna go. Some physically and emotionally mature kid who’s comfortable with the possibility that they may just not play.
