Ok, have waited on this for awhile before going on initial reaction.  I have my doubts but here are the things I could think of as to why this may work:
    1.  Woodson wants this job.  It wasn't just the next available step on the career ladder.  He bleeds this place, losing is going to hurt him on multiple levels.  I saw there were Big Ten people laughing about the hire. Ok, saddle up Woody.  You beat their @$$ as a player, time to do it as a coach.
    2.  NBA connection.  Well covered here.
    3.  African American coach.  Indiana (as a state) has this reputation as being a backwater that is not real minority friendly.  This squashes that.  Let's be real, most of the guys being recruited are going to have more in common with Woodson then they would with a white Texan.  There is not another "blue blood" program doing this.
    4.  There are some people a little put off by this.  I kind of am...BUT, if this works out, he is the type of hire that will get people back in the fold quickly.
That being said, I think his most important job in the next few days is getting as many guys back out of the portal and committed to Indiana as possible and trying to convince the rest to stay.  Then lwts see if we can steal a few guys.
Dolson did not win the press conference.  Ok.  I get that.  But we've been a bunch of flash and no substance for about 20 years.  I want Woodson to come in and have a take no prisoners attitude.  **** Goodman.  **** those other Big Ten contacts the Phillip's was talking to.  **** the national media who is shoveling dirt over Indiana like it is dead.  IU vs. the world at this point.  Screw talking, let's go to war.

Mr. BayernFan, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

And this is where it gets tricky and having a starved fanbase that hasn’t experienced success in a long time makes it difficult.  I have no doubt Dolson could pull the trigger and bring in someone that would have more success in the short term even if it isn’t his guy.    With the lack of success it’s not going to take much to improve on what has been done here over the last 20 years.   Any glimmer of success is going to send this fan base into a frenzy and I would be afraid if it’s just another guy to replace what you got  and not the guy Dolson Really wanted there could be a case of fools gold.   Hopkins, Iowa St coach, Keats and many others are all coaches that when first hired had some success early.    If that happens here the coach is going to be crowned the savior.   Fast forward a couple years and those guys are struggling way more  now and might not be the answer some thought they were at the time.

this is why Dolson is in a tough spot.  Nothing is guaranteed.  Firing him doesn’t guarantee the next coach will have success and keeping him until you find your guy doesn’t guarantee success.   IU has a 5 star fan base that has been given 3 and 2 star results by the program they are invested in.   Tough spot no matter how you view it

Ok guys, back from the ledge.  It's not as bad as it looks.  Lots of problems, but fixable over time.  But it will take time.  Before the Romeo get, did anyone think we'd be competitive this year.  My observations from being at the game, up close.
We are small.  As in boys vs. men small.  As mentioned above, Morgan isn't a "big."  He's got no butt.  Every other spot, we gave up 5-20 lbs. per man.  Granted, a young team.  But they need to get their man muscles going.
Catching the ball is a problem.  It's a combination of bad passes and "weak" hand strength (see above).
Archie cares.  You can see it on  his face, in his body language.  He's as frustrated as anyone.  Coach Jesus could't win with this team.  Everyone says, sit this guy, play that guy.  But every player is woefully one dimensional.  So you need to pick you poison.
We can't shoot.  We can't shoot.  We can't shoot.  (nothing you all haven't talked about all year)  We have professional college basketball players throwing up air balls.  When you can't shoot, the defense can sag a step without penalty.  The kids you have that can drive, can't because the defense is down already.  We need to go out and get a shooter or two (even is they lack some defense/athleticism).
The defense has been "fixed."  Look back at the Crean threads and the complete lack of defense.  We'll that has been fixed (save for a key lapse here an there).  Holding teams in the 50s and 60s.  They are playing tough, respectable, defense.  Problem is basketball is an offensive game and we have none.
Team lacks leadership and identity.  Is this an Archie team or a Crean team?  Who is the leader -- Morgan (Crean guy, graduating), Romeo (Archie guy, going pro), or ?  There where times when they just gave the ball to Romeo and said "go to it."  Was not all that successful.  Maybe Rob needs to step up and start leading the team, realizing both Morgan and Romeo will be gone.  Need to start setting the tone for next year and following.
We need to build a base before we go after "one and done" players.  We need guys who will be around 3-4 years before going pro.  Recruiting wise, it's an "easy" sell.  Basically any skilled freshmen can come in and start.  2 starters are gone and 2 are up for grabs.
Anyway, I am just rambling now.

    Oh my goodness.
As a mod I try to hold my tongue and allow  “basketball opinions” to be expressed, but the complete, irrational gloom expressed by some posters, as summarized in these two posts, is absolutely asinine.
If you can’t contribute something to the board beyond your (summary) conclusion that “IU sucks and there’s no hope”, then I suggest you hold your thoughts until you have something more constructive to add.
    Rant over. Love u guys!
