Watching him tonight against the Rockets- he’s having a huge game, was 8-8 for 20, career high, just missed his first shot of the night in the 4th after leading the break.
His future with GS is bright. Looking very much at home out there, running really well with Steph and Klay. Announcers giving him lots of love and talking about his IU career and his IU records. Special player, fun to watch him take off in the League.

Liam probably makes a more immediate impact in college but Tucker will be the better pro by a long shot.

I agree. If this were any other organization, sports or otherwise, it would be nuked then rebuilt with a stronger foundation. This will never happen though. The program is profitable and there is little to no incentive to change the power structure. It’s undeniable, at this point, that winning isn’t as high a priority as they’ve led us to believe. I have ZERO faith that this will ever get turned around in my lifetime…. I’m only 38.

I’ll be interested to see what happens with Buckner as chair.

I’m not unbiased on Newton. Love him. Great kid. Great family. Maybe my favorite offerree to watch in the last few classes. Before he got hurt he was 1 and 1A with a kid who’s about to be a 1 and done lottery pick. Rooting like hell for him. If het gets back to 90% or better he can change the calculus of this team. If he doesn’t it’s a crying freaking shame because pre-injury Newton was a pro.

For me? I’d rather spend the NIL on a kick @$$ PG and SG, add Humirchous, and play smaller.

I can't tell you first hand, but this was what 247 saw him as coming out of his school:
Carlyle is a dynamic ball in hand player with terrific length for his size who can create scoring opportunities for himself on demand. He is simply wired to score from all three levels and never has seen a shot he does not like. His handle is as good and tight as anyone in the class and he can get by a defender with his speed and quickness. While he is primarily a scorer, he is terrific at making attacking plays off the dribble with his excellent handle and when the bucket opportunity does not present itself, he is more than willing to make the right find. What is better than his ability to score is his mindset. His mentality is elite as he is a tough and fierce competitor who is always in full attack mode. His constant aggression is what makes him positively productive. Defensively, he has the length and the foot speed to be elite and devastating on that side of the floor. A terrific two-way guard, Carlyle most certainly projects a reliable scorer who plays through most injuries and goes to war like each game is his last.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And this is what that saw him as after this past season at Stanford:

Kanaan Carlyle entered the transfer portal following his freshman season at Stanford. The scoring guard missed the first month of the season for what was reported as academic reasons, but made an immediate impact when debuting in December, including a 28-point outburst against Arizona in his fourth game. He finished the year having started 16 of 23 games and averaging 25.6 minutes, 11.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.
Carlyle was unable to sustain the same shooting prowess from behind the three-point line that he showed in December, and ultimately saw his percentage dip down to 32% from that range. He was, however, an increasingly versatile scoring threat, if not always an efficient one, as he attempted 33% of his shots at the rim and 42% in the mid-range area per Pivot Analysis.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In terms of his early season academic issues at Stanford, what I can tell you is that during recruiting he made it clear that he was really looking for an academic challenge.  I think he had a rude awakening after playing for his senior season at Overtime Elite Academy.....which has their players spend no more than 4 hours per time in instruction, all online.

Gallo should not be our pg.
He should be the sixth man that still plays 25-30 mpg at positions 1-3 and is on the court at the end of the game.

I tend to agree. BUT Gallo from 3 and free throw almost makes him unplayable. It’s weird and a shame. Imo, he’s a very strong PG.
But any guard shooting 50-60%FTs has gotta be fixed.

Imo we need 2 combo guards capable of starting, both able to shoot.

It’s been a heck of a year for the Trees.  I’m sure people got tired of us talking about them last year and at the beginning of the year especially with how IU played   Let’s win this NIT championship.    Hopefully IU can give us joy next year but it was our Sycamores that gave us a ride this year.    Enjoy it I know I am because it might be a while until we see it again

Yes, in interviews when he was hired at Wagner, Rhode Island, and UConn, he's made references to having to convince his wife to let him take the job, because she does not like change and wants to be close to her family in Jersey City, where they are both from. I think Rhode Island at 3.5 hours was about as far as she'd ever be willing to go. UConn feels like a perfect fit for Hurley when you combine that with the fact that basketball is king there... he's already got it rolling and it's fueled by a regional recruiting pipeline he's built over a lifetime.
I do not think there is any feasible amount of money that would make Danny Hurley jump right now. You never know... but the thing is, the Hurley family has shown time and time again that they're not necessarily motivated by money. Bob SR. could have left plenty of times over the years... a lot of that loyalty mindset exists in Danny... he coached HS for about 10 years and only made the jump to college because his wife essentially gave him the green light since she could see the need for competition burning within him, lol. He said Coach K told him in his final year at URI that he had to make a move now and he said that's what prompted him to being open to a change I believe.
The only way I could see it making sense for him is if UConn becomes so diminished in conference re-alignments that he feels he can no longer be competitive on a national level (I don't see that happening personally). Even then, I think Hurley is the kind who would take pride in staying put and "beating the odds" despite conference challenges. I also think from an ego perspective, he'd love to be the indisputable top dog over Calhoun, but that's entirely my own speculation... he's just a maniac like that and I think he fits UConn like a glove.

Conwell needs to show he can play the pg position more, to improve his nba prospects. Whatever it takes to get him, we need to do it.
