Agree. Although, it appears TJ has him on all the physical attributes.
I thought Rourke was slower getting the ball out than TJ and not as much zip. But by the end he looked to be in a better rhythm.

Storr is uber talented but he is pretty ball dominant and changes schools every year. I’m interested how he fares at Kansas. I can’t imagine Self will have a lot of patience for that but then again they’re probably paying him $750k or something.
Eh, neither are a point guard. They lost their three best players (storr, hepburn, and wahl). 2 of which didn't have to leave.
Haven't replaced them with anything. I agree Blackwell will be good, but doesn't make up for what they lost to the portal.

Would have his COVID year left if he returns to college.
LOL. gotta love old coaches who refuse to change with the times and hold their schools hostage until they retire.
Izzy is 79-54 (41-38) over the last 4 years. No championships.
And next year looks to be the worst of them all

yikes. they might be the losers of the offseason unless they make some portal adds soon.

I'm still bummed out about 2021-- the man was on absolute FIRE and tore his hamstring. In the 21 games before that injury --- Kyle was hitting .338/.409/.974 with 16HRs --- he was traded to BOS at the trade deadline that year and tore it up in Fenway. They loved him.
only played 113 games that year and still hit 32HR and 71RBI
My favorite Hoosier of all time. And it's honestly not close.

The fact that he only has one year of eligibility left does scare me a bit. Usually takes guys a year to adjust to competition when they make a huge jump.
But since he will be in a reserve role prob not a huge deal.
-
He certainly had a tough year. But 83rd percentile in scoring from off-ball screens.
Woody better run some screens for this man.

7 minutes ago, Home Jersey said:I mean we're getting pretty deep into semantics at this point... part of what makes a players NIL valuable is how good they are.
But they're usually mostly compensated in the form of a collective's cash payment, not a company's marketing budget for example. Which IMO is why some people have grievances with "NIL" pay... it's mostly collective payments which are more similar to a company payroll. When people think of NIL, they think about players who have made CBB nationally relevant being able to reap the rewards for their success via their NIL deals with local and national organizations, which is a good deal for everybody.
Instead, we see universities basically paying players for performance. Collectives can bring with them a world of political headaches (maybe that's part of the offseason drama we've seen play out at IU). Adding a 3rd party to your organization/program is always troublesome IMO. Therefore I hope we get to a point where the collectives go away, universities manage funds in house like a company payroll with a salary cap, and we go back to basketball being the primary focus with NIL as a nice bonus for doing well.
I am not talking about where the money comes from and if that is problematic. That is not how this conversation got started.
Zach Edey was covered relentlessly this season by EVERYONE in and out of college basketball. To think he would make a nominal amount for his name, is silly. Regardless of who pays him or how he is paid. That's really the only point I was trying to make.

3 minutes ago, Home Jersey said:Yep, this is where the discrepancy is IMO for why people feel so differently about "NIL."
Name, Image, and Likeness deals like the ones you described where you'd see a guest appearance, sponsorship/commercial, etc.
There are also collectives, which provide direct cash payments as I understand it. That is where it's less about marketability/being paid for your own name and likeness, and more about being semi-pro sports with smaller budgets and no salary cap.
As a concept, players getting paid is fine. They basically always have been. The devil is in the detail... and the collectives are problematic for sustainable success, not to mention the long-term feasibility of smaller schools being competitive/eventually, even fielding teams. Seems like the inevitable conclusion is revenue sharing/unionization, collective bargaining, etc.
But if people feel that is all name image and likeness is Idk what to tell them.

2 minutes ago, AZ Hoosier said:But "this" isn't "that". Doing personal appearances or sponsorship deals is one thing. There is nothing about that with the NIL deal where schools are paying players $1m to attend their school and play a sport in exchange for that money. What we now have is professional athletes disguised as amateurs.
At least the pro sports leagues have some sort of salary cap in an attempt to bring parity. There is no such "cap" on NIL spending, so it's truly a free-for-all. And if the NCAA (or some other authority) were to implement a cap, it would just return us to the days of under-the-table payments.
Sadly, it is what it is and it is completely out of control.
Says who?
NIL is nothing more than someone getting money for their own personal worth on the market. That is exactly what this is.

I don't think it has anything to do with loving NIL or not. It was bizarre that they could not make money off their OWN NAMES. That doesn't make them professional or amateur (which was always a silly argument) it just makes them like everyone else.

I am curious as to why you thought, college basketball players who are quite literally on TV and advertised as much if not more than most celebrities, would be paid a nominal amount for their NIL?

Agreed. A coach who adjusts his style to his roster, and to just plain win.
Plus he's a good interview.

You have your dominant post player in Reneau, then he is surrounded by guys who can shoot the 3 and get to the basket. The offense would have been much more smooth and fluid
I have been vocal as well that Conwell was my first choice because he is a "shooter" but more than that. So I agree there.
I do think the delayed timing of Conwell entering the portal has hurt our chances. I can't fault the staff for looking elsewhere rather than be left holding the bag, literally.
Reneau as the main option at the 5 scares me. Not a rebounder, not a shot blocker, and a fouler. Not a good combo. But he is a machine otherwise.

Yep, that too. Which was a product of the dynamic guards/wings.

2 minutes ago, Chris007 said:That's why my first get in the offseason would have been a shooter. We have to start having an offense that gets up 20-25 threes a game.
I mean, I think it depends on the "shooter" It is just my opinion but...
I would personally rather have guards/wings who can score at all three levels and a 5 as the priority over everyone else. Once those are filled, then you add a guy who can stretch the floor as his role.
Just looking at the National Championship game, Loyer and Karaban were the best shooters on the floor. They had little to no impact in that game. Did they help their teams get there? of course. But it was the dynamic guards and dominant post players that made them so good.

I think we probably leave one scholarship open, so assuming Carlyle is in the fold that’s three more spots to fill. I hope one of them is Humrichous. We obviously need a backup big and a sniper to round things out.
What is the date the portal closes to enter? There will most likely be some late additions and you never know who might enter.
May 1. But that only applies to undergrads, grad transfers can still enter after that.

That's seven. One more rotational players while Newton, Cupps, Leal, are DNPCD's perhaps. I could see Cupps cracking the top eight.
The top 7 includes:
6 players who averaged double figure points last year
2 first team all-conference players
2 conference freshmen of the year
1 all-conference honorable mention
2 McDonald's All-Americans
Experience, talent, production. We see you Woody, prove it to us.
