NashvilleHoosier got a reaction from mdn82 in 2019 NIT Tournament
I really hope this is our attitude. This season didn't turn out like anyone expected. But it doesn't have to end with such a bitter taste. If we were to go with this damn thing, let's be honest....that is progress! It's not exactly the progress we want (half the fan base believes we should have won the Big Ten and been in the final four this year). But, you can look up a ton of examples of high level coaches who's first few years didn't include anything impressive. No postseason in year 1 --> NIT champs in year 2 is progress! And yes, I understand the challenges ahead in year 3, but I sincerely hope this group takes the opportunity they have and makes the most of it now. We very well could be looking back in 7 or 8 years like Michigan or Virginia or Villanova fans are right now and thinking, "man remember the struggles we had in Archie's first few years? We were pissed about being in the NIT but look at us now!" If we are going to be the program we should be and truly get back among the blue bloods, it won't be built in 2 seasons.

So I log back on to check for new info and I get to sift through 2 or 3 pages of people arguing about whether Trayce is going to get popped tonight. I'm not sure any recruitment has ever been this tight lipped.

They tweeted yesterday that we were out after the loss. They also responded to someone who asked if there was a "dream scenario" still alive where a bunch of other bubble teams lost allowing IU to sneak into a Dayton game with..."No". So their bracket must not have been updated. Unless they had a change of heart later in the evening.
I'm guessing the reality is we could not have possibly made ourselves look worse yesterday. Not only by losing but by how we lost with very little fight until the end. Had it been a truly back and forth game with both teams fighting like hell, maybe we put ourselves in a position to be seen as equally deserving of a bid even with a loss. But now we give a leg up to all of other teams like Belmont who so many people are arguing are deserving. The last impression we gave was a reminder of the team we were during the most important stretch of the season. We'll have to see if the committee takes that into consideration, or simply looks at things on paper. I say we are done though. And deservedly so.

And let’s just hope they go ahead and lose that 16th game right off the bat. Against Kansas in KC so it seems likely. 16-16.....there is just simply no chance the committee can allow that team in. Right?

I think we as a fanbase reeeeeaaaally want this to be true. But unfortunately its just not. He'll be able to sell this snake oil as long as it continues to be true. UK has 25 players in the NBA, the overwhelming majority of which played for Cal, and 12 of the 25 have entered the NBA since 2015. Duke can claim they are right there recently, but if a kid is looking for a path to the NBA, Cal can still sell that "snake oil" better than anyone. I hate it, and I really wish it wasn't true, but it is.

That may be true. But we're talking about what Cal can sell. He can sell that. Do you honestly think its a good sales pitch to a recruit to say, "yeah but most of those players could have come to play for me somewhere else and still been in the NBA."? That's a pretty lame selling point.

Well considering this is the first time any conference has ever played a 20 game schedule, your answer is that an 8-12 team has NEVER been considered! :-)
But that also means that a team that is 4 games under .500 has NEVER had 8 conference wins. Combine that with the possibility of 6-7 quad 1 wins, which no other bubble team will be able to claim, and we certainly have a chance. I'm not overly optimistic we win out though, and even if we beat MSU again, and then possibly lose to Illinois, I think a 7-13 conference record makes it impossible.

Ah, you beat me to it. Is this actually a rule change though? A very similar play happened to me many many years ago playing in (I think) 8th grade AAU ball. I hit a three and the defender jumped to defend it way late and came down, fouling me as he couldn't stop his momentum. We happened to be in the bonus so I got a chance for a 5 point play. Hit the first....missed the second. Mentally, my game never really recovered. Hung up the sneakers after freshman ball......oh what could have been! :-)

I feel like you can say this about nearly any Purdue player who contributes. Edwards is obviously a no-brainer. How bad do we need a Ryan Cline this year? As annoying as Haarms is to watch, we would love him if was on our roster and he would allow Juwan to play the 4. Same with Williams. I'd love to have an Eifert on our team. There are probably more, but that's who I can think of off the top of my head.

I recall this being talked about in another thread but I can't find it. If this should be merged, please do so....
We are heading to town this weekend and typically always target the grass lots for tailgating. Am I remembering correctly that the grass lots are somehow sold out this year? Is that just a portion, or actually the entirety of the grass lots? We are fine being toward the back as that's usually more family friendly. If so, any recommendations for the best place to tailgate (ideally a place suitable for 3 toddlers and 2 infants with parents who still want to party to whatever degree we can) other than that?

This isn't even good news if it is true. We'd just lose another big recruit while being in their final two, this time to UK to pour salt in the wound. I'd rather just not even make his top 5.

I can't wait for the WC. I was not a soccer fan at all up until about 6 months ago. Got curious, did some research on the EPL and how European leagues are set up, picked a team (Everton), and started following on Saturday and Sunday mornings. It started as another hobby, and now I absolutely cannot get enough. I was always intrigued about how the world's most popular sport could be maybe the 7th or 8th most popular in the US? We missed the boat for sure. Someone earlier in the thread said soccer was too slow and boring. I used to have that typical American attitude as well. But its simply just not taking the time to understand the game. Once I did, its an absolutely fascinating sport that (like I said earlier) I cannot get enough of. Right now I hate that I can't wake up on Saturday and Sunday mornings and flip on NBC Sports network for some footy. My wife and I are going to Italy in September and we're going to catch a Serie A game if we can. There is a NPSL (4th tier) team that started here just this season that is 100% supporter owned so my wife and I both bough founder's memberships as well. The sport is certainly growing here! Anyway, I've rambled enough.

    Go USA!
    Go Everton!
