Feel like a win against Michigan doesn’t necessarily need to put us ahead of them but I think it would put room between us and teams like Smu, va tech, etc and also could put us ahead of a team like Xavier

Twas my point more than anything else, I guess. We're closer to the bottom than anywhere near the middle in quantity/quality. I guess looking at it we were really only two wins against the upper half of the Big 1.o to be similar to those upper half teams. Two of our road wins came against the bottom two teams and then one against T-10 place mighty Maryland. A little e and e against Penn State and a little better decision making pre-Northwestern and we might have had the sweep of the bottom 5 teams on the road and been safely in.

Right, but I don’t really care what the non-tournament worthy teams have done on the road. I’m only saying any other big ten team worthy of being in the tourney discussion has a signature road win against a tourney team except us. But to your point, looking at this alone, we are far more like the non-tourney teams than we are like the tourney teams.

I hear you on all of those but the Rutgers game was basically a snap shot of IU basketball for the last 4 years.   Not being able to beat Rutgers at home in the biggest game of the year is a gut punch.
Road games are what they are but each year continuing to lose Q2 games at home is killer on the resume.

Rutgers, Wisconsin, at Wisconsin, at Ohio St., at Iowa, maybe at NW. Any of those and it’s a different story. 2 of those and we’re feeling great. 3 of those? Hah. We’d still be considered not very good at closing games but we’d be arguing about whether we’d rather be in a 8/9 game or 7/10 game.

For sure. No question we have to win, especially since it will be against another cut line team and be a quad 1 win. Our resume is so fragile. ND jumped back up to a quad 1 win by 2 spots. St. John’s is hanging on as a quad 2 win by 3 spots but Rutgers has fallen, officially giving us a quad 3 loss by 1 spot. A win Thursday is the bare minimum b/c our team sheet could take some hits along the way.

Ehhh....the whole "fit your narrative" thing gets a bit overused on this board in my opinion (which I suppose is a microcosm of the world we live in today), but hey, you disagree with him. I didn't read the entire thread in detail, but he/she is passing along thoughts from a podcast they heard relevant to IU hoops. Beard was their coach of choice. But it's a legitimate question to wonder where the problem lies in this program, what needs to happen to fix it, and are the right people in place to do it. Hard for me to see any narrative being pushed here.

I think if we win the 1st game it will be close. Bid stealers may not be in our favor. But if we play Michigan and beat them, that probably bumps them out in addition to helping us.

Yeah I will need to do a deep dive into it but if they win the first game that game is probably against Michigan which that game is looking like an elimination game.   I think that might put them in the last 4 in but not safe by any means.    Bid stealers and that non con sos would worry me if IU was in the last 4.    Might as well win 2 and take it out of their hands

It’s the ending this team deserves. Haven’t taken a single opportunity all season so why expect anything other than those last 2 possessions?

X should have just shot the open shot instead of waiting to try to draw the foul. Though it’s almost unfair to pick on that since he’s the only reason we are in this game.

Not an excuse but it is awfully discouraging to run down the court time after time after time only to see one of your teammates clang a shot. We desperately need a go-to guy at the 2 and 3.

I think they care, we just aren't a very good team and this team has shown me, in "must win" games...they don't have that gear

Yeah that makes a ton of sense, considering in an earlier post you said there should be some standards. So apply the standard of looking at the entire body of work….sometimes. For some teams. Then for other teams we will apply the partial body of work. So the standard will be the entire body of work except when it’s not the entire body of work. I’ve actually been a big fan of the 60% body of work rule where teams get to choose which 60% of their body of work the committee looks at. For example, and completely hypothetical situation here, if a team were to end up, say, 18-12 or something like that…again, completely hypothetical….that team could choose which 18 games the committee evaluated them on. It makes a ton of sense really.

What would be worse is if you missed any deadline to buy through IU at face value, then let a buddy talk you into buying way too expensive not terrible but not great tix on the secondary market after a day of hittin the sauce b/c your wife, also on the sauce, gave the thumbs up. Can you imagine? Hah! That would totally suck if that happened to someone. It didn’t happen to me. That wasn’t me.

it was me. That’s what I did. We’re gonna win the whole damn thing.
