Exactly what I've been saying. Indiana has seven guys in rotation, Woody isn't playing more than eight during B1G.

On the shooting front: Yes it's important for Indiana to get better shooters. But Woodson and company seriously need to play a style of basketball where they shoot more 3's. They were bottom 300's in D1 last season. That's not acceptable at the P4 level.

I agree. I was mostly pointing out the ironic/ridiculous take of Goodman basically writing off Mgbako b/c he didn't shoot very well from 3 as a freshman and his "one suggestion" being that we go get Stojakovic b/c he'll be our answer shooting the 3, even though he wasn't good as a freshman.

  2. That Goodman video is hilarious. Yes, we need better shooting but this whole take made me laugh out loud:

"What did Mgbako shoot from 3 as a freshman? Don't know but it wasn't good and he was supposed to be a lights out shooter."

"My one piece of advice is to go out and get Stojakovic b/c he's a lights out shooter....well, he wasn't as a freshman, but he will be."

The reality is what ever is done the next few weeks with the roster still needs to equate to wins come November-March.  It’s only one leg of a three legged stool.

Correct. Doubt you’ll get any argument there. Just confirming that no dose of reality has been thrown on this thread of folks discussing new portal additions here in April. Thank you.

Apparently just starters from our previous championship teams.  Guy like Ricky Calloway.....before Knight drove him out.

Yeah, I’m guessing I won’t get an answer, since there isn’t one. I’m as down on Woodson as most could reasonably be, and I’m plenty skeptical of how these new player will work out. But the level some will go to downplay everything is just mind numbing. But, I guess there is no downside. They either get to say they were right or forget about it and enjoy better than expected results.

Not to be a downer, but these players while they would be nice additions, they are not program changers. None will have the impact of Ware and they are still being coached by the same group that added 2 5 star players last off season and way under produced and are, in there own words, more inside out then...well...everybody.

In all honesty, this unbridled excitement is over first or second off the bench guys at the program IU once was and strive to be.

Out of curiosity, what is a program changer? Which one player that is available, transfer portal or freshman, that is singularly a program changer?

After seeing the coaching market this off-season, I’m not to confident Dolson would be able to field anyone good, let alone great. While I want Woodson fired tonight, the Kentucky search along with others has made it clear that Indiana isn’t going to hire an A, let alone a B+ hire next season. Unless Brad Steven’s wants to get back into it, I don’t know a single candidate that Indiana could land at this point.

Assuming the Ballo kid commits and others, Indiana should make the dance.

I’ve unfortunately accepted the fact that Indiana isn’t Indiana anymore. It’s an average to below average program that has money and a very supportive fan base. It’s Nebraska Football.

I’d compare it more to Tennessee football. There isn’t near as much working against Indiana basketball as there is Nebraska football. The right hire has the script flipped in no time. I agree with you that watching the UK coaching search (along with the UofL search) is concerning for us. But young Brucie will be a spry 65 next offseason. He’s got a solid 3 final fours in 7-8 years left in the tank.

Actually responding saying it’s not worth a response and referencing the thing not worth responding to in another response is a heck of a way to show something isn’t worth a response. :-)

  8. I've got a pretty open calendar for the first time in a while, sounds like some visits start up today, and this thread is gettin' sassy at 8:12am my time. Let's get weird.

EDIT: big ol' bucket of water thrown on the sass fire in the next post. Still plenty of opportunity to get weird within board bylaws.

I agree, it has taken me awhile to go through page after page with the same posters arguing about the current roster and former players that really doesn’t pertain to the portal.  But why quote Chris who was not one of those posters?

I like Humrichous too and he isn’t going anywhere to come off the bench.

Kaulie and Old Fart being in a fight with Chris in the middle is arguably the most significant news this thread has seen to date. And we thought it was a dead period!!

I'm not a doctor and generally don't know **** about **** (for all my Ozark fans out there), but I believe Claws are brewed the same way as beer, if that has anything to do with his allergies, you might want to check on that before Chris Jr. dives in!

Not knowing **** about **** is my favorite thing to accuse somebody of, deserved or not. Top 5 TV line of all time? Who could know? If you’re not on beers, check out these new THC infused drinks. They keep figuring out new loopholes in the Ag bill and many have the real deal in ‘em. I call it elbow sauce. Have one and try to tell me you disagree with the name.

I believe this "we skipped to get a head start on the portal" is a largely false premise.

We likely skipped the tournaments because of, in order of priority/importance:

    1. Ware (likely), Banks and Gunn (probably), and maybe X, Gallo, or Leal (all of whom were injured to some degree) would not have played; we couldn't have run out anywhere near a full roster. So our team would've been MR, GC, MM, Sparks, Walker, and maybe one or two more at most. That is unworkable.
    2. We pre-empted the possibility that we wouldn't have been selected for the NIT, which would've been hella embarrassing.
    3. We didn't want to play in front of a less than interested and full Assembly Hall and potentially lose, which woulda also been embarrassing. Like 2017, when we accepted a sad-faced NT bid, and got rolled by Georgia Tech in front of 5,000 fans.
    4. Finally and maybe the lowest down the list, we wanted the staff to prepare for and engage in portal season as early as possible.

I'd buy that it was a combo of #1 an #2 but we said it was #4. On #3 as others have pointed out, little to no chance we were going to host a game, but didn't we decline to host in 2017 and played at Ga. Tech? The point remains....we got rolled.

I really hope there was solid reasoning behind it. Because if a program that's performed like Indiana has for the last 20 years simultaneously sticks with Woodson while also feeling it's too good for and/or above the NIT, we're much farther into la la land than I thought.

So, do you really want to open than can of worms? :D

I don't think this is what the NCAA had in mind when they dreamed up the NIL thing. That said, we have to play if we want any chance of being competitive. But where Indiana is right now is exactly what's wrong with NIL in general, and "paying players" specifically. Because Woodson was either unable or unwilling to recruit HS players as has been done since Dr Naismith hung the peach baskets from the balconies. So now he's scrambling to "buy" a team, and no clue how that will turn out, as it's still pretty early in the cycle. And there's the caveat that it will be a "new" team, and Woodson will be the coach to somehow make it all work. It just creates a whole new excuse if this fails, and if it somehow succeeds, then it will very well become his M.O. going forward.

Personally, buying a team of mercenaries kind of turns my stomach. I understand that UCLA started that (with Wooden and Sam Gilbert), and the Kentuckys, Dukes, Kansases and North Carolinas have never looked back. One could argue that at least it's a fairly level playing field, but it truly does just feel wrong.

Depends what can you’re talking about. The can that is the current NCAA landscape was blown open long ago so no comment by me or anyone else here opens that further. If we’re talking about our fans opinion of NIL, yes, 100%, crack it open. I doubt you’ll get much disagreement on anything you said, including from me. It’s well said. But the most important thing you said is “we have to play if we want any chance.” If you read your full post, I think you do a pretty good job on the argument of why we have to do it. Basically…it kinda stinks, but it’s also been happening forever and now it’s legal and in the open. So, let’s play the damn game as best we can. I’ll go back to my previous comment…if it only makes us competitive, Woody is still toast. But let’s at least play the game to try to be competitive, or even better than that. Worst case scenario we prove to the next coach that we’re serious about NIL.

I think it’s more of it’s sad that we have to pay more than others to help make our coach competitive.

I mean, I can kind of see that. But I just can’t imagine the reaction (me included) if we were really behind in NIL or if our program felt like they didn’t really need to play that game. I don’t care the reason behind it. “Competitive” Woodson doesn’t keep his job. Really good coach Woodson keeps his job and the really good job part will have very little, if anything, to do with how much we paid players. I, for one, am glad we are acting like a big boy program and paying players in the era where you have to pay players. Even if we are paying more to try to make our coach more competitive.

  14. I'm sure I already know the answer to this, but has this ship completely sailed? It seems the recruiting fire has been ignited to some degree. Doesn't appear there's been any movement with McNeeley yet. Is there any chance the message can be flipped, show who we're in on in the portal and how that will change our offense, and that we have a fresh stockpile of cash with his name on it?

You totally glossed over my first point about Tucker.  BTW, Tamar Bates was a high ranked incoming freshman at IU and he wasn’t a starter and he was here two years.

...who very specifically said he liked the fact that he wasn't promised anything from Woody, that if he'd have to earn playing time.

  16. 13 minutes ago, Chris007 said:

Well they won't be because neither is an addition yet. We don't know if they're coming or not. Tucker yes most likely. We need to slow down on players being on the team when they might be leaning our way.

What is this measured, hold your horses, let's not get ahead of ourselves Chris? Is this a new offseason thing? Unsubscribe!
