His history as a coach has always been your main argument for why his ceiling is too low for our program, and it's fair. History is a very good indicator or future performance.

But using his history as the main piece of support for why he can't truly succeed here is a little misguided in my mind. You would need to be able to say that his two stops, Marquette and Indiana, both provide the same opportunities to succeed as a head coach. I think we can all agree that even if Crean experienced zero improvement as a coach over his career, his ability to succeed is higher at Indiana. In his time here, at Indiana, I'd say his history is much more promising. I still think he can do very good things here. He's not Bob Knight or even close the best coach right now, but he has proven he can be successful here. I don't care what he did at Marquette. That only mattered when we were deciding whether to hire him or not.

The good thing about all their youngsters and press clippings is that they WILL take some teams lightly. Hopefully by the time they decide to flip the switch, there won't be enough time left to avoid the upset.

agree. It's a broad generalization and unfair to many but the huge increase in single family homes have had a profound impact!

I would say u are one who will see IU as a failure under Crean until we hang a banner. Maybe I'm wrong. These are stats to show that this current version of IU is (in the big picture) starting to reflect the old one sans championship banner. So with that, maybe us fans should enjoy the ride a little more.

Here is my general thought right now. We are trying to run a coach out of town who has a team with the beginning traits of being a banner hanger. What else do we need next year other than a elite center?

Which should let you know that coaches shouldn't be involved in the voting.

For the record, I blame those who "raised" the Millennials, moreso.

Obviously, any statement, even factual ones regarding 90% of a group, still allows for it not to apply to 10% of that group.

Anyone who has lived as an adult through decades  and hired through decades, knows there's a difference.

Fairly good kids now do what fairly bad kids used to do.

Just as the stud kid now keeps breaking records, because of advancement in training, nutrition and perhaps opportunity, but the average kid is less fit.

Was only "out of left field" because I hadn't checked the thread before, so I responded to a post as I got to it without checking the date.

Anyway, we can move it to a more suitable thread, like a fire Tom Crean one, so it won't be so disruptive.

That's what I'm concerned with. Even if he is 3rd or 4th, he'll get the bump because of Maryland being their first year in the league

No. But, it's your generation who elected them, by finally deciding to vote...

Anyway, effort, work ethic, personal responsibility and consideration for others is a fleeting thing. The instant gratification concept is much more of a common expectation these days.

Also, "Young voters favored Obama by a 24-point margin. The average gap from 1976 through 2004 was only about two percentage points, as young voters basically supported the same candidate as older voters in most elections"

Based on president alone (and assuming other 'like' candidates got the same benefit) young voters had a major influence in the current crop of position holders.

Obama got 3 million more votes, all ages combined, than Romney, but almost a full 4 million more 18-29 year olds voted than in 2004.

Don't the coaches vote on this? If so, forget about Crean ever winning it. Cody's freshman year, we had the "exceeding expectations" angle and it went to a coach who was a co-champion. The next year, we won the league outright and it went to Bo Ryan. There are a handful of coaches in this league who won't ever give Crean their vote, and after this week you can add Tim Miles to the list.

We do hope they develop but neither are "supposed" to be a big man. Them developing puts us top 20, them developing and adding a legit center could put us top 5.

I think winning it as a particular school is harder, because by and large more teams are equally competitive, but I think teams who win now are way less comparatively "good" than teams who won in yesteryear.

I get your point, but those other schools have always gotten good players from Indiana:Scott Skyles, Zach Randolph, Kyle Macy.

For goodness sakes we were #1 in the country just 2 years ago and adding a good center would put us right there again for next season, and even if we don't we're in a heck of a lot better shape than we were in '08 before becoming #1 1 class later

That's sure what it felt like, but few of us really remember our '87 team.

How many points did you see Kreigh Smith score in his Indiana career? How about Jeff Oliphant? Maybe 100 between them?
Put those 2 guys along with Steve Alford on a team and that's the ONLY 3 players from Indiana on our last championship team.

3 total native Hoosiers on the team and 2 of them were Aprilesque and Prillerish.
