Adam Howard, Liam and Derik all liked Daquan Davis instagram post of him de-commiting from Providence when it was announced.  Maybe because both Liam and Derik know him personally(I know Derik does but unsure if Liam does).  Adam liking it is certainly a telling sign to me that IU very much could be the favorite here

FWIW, likely starters for Marian, our next exhibition opponent.  Marian has played one regular season game already, beating IU Southeast 90-76.  The Knights were 20-11 last year, losing in the first round of the NAIA championship tourney.
G:  6'3" junior Brody Whitaker.  scored 33 points in the opener on 11 of 21 shooting, including 3 of 8 from three.  Last season averaged 11.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 21 minutes per game.  From Greencastle, IN.
G:  5'11" junior Gus Etchison.  scored 25 point in the opener on 10 of 23 shooting, including 5 of 12 from three.  Played his first two seasons at Western Michigan before transferring to Marian this year.  In 36 games at WMU averaged 3.7 points and 1.5 assists in 12 minutes/game.  From Ciciero, IN.
G:  6'1" Maximum Gizzi.  Scored 4 points in the opener.  Last year averaged 3.4 points and 2.2 assists in 16 minutes/game
F:  6'3" sophomore Gavin Foe.  Had a double-double 11 points/10 rebounds in the season opener.  Last season as a freshman averaged 3.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in 15 minutes/game.  From Jonestown, OH.
C:  6'11" junior Jackson Ames.  Had 5 points and 3 rebounds in the opener.  Averaged 4.6 points and 4.2 rebounds in 13 minutes/game last season.  From Batavia, OH.

F 6'5" senior Josh Bryan.  Played two seasons at Ball State, appearing in 13 total games, scoring a total of 8 points.  Transferred to U Indy last year, playing in 20 games and averaging 1.8 points/game.  From Muncie.

C 6'10" sophomore Nolan Foster.  3.5 points and 2.6 reb in 9.6 mpg last season.  From Mattawan, MIch.

I'm worried after hearing Woodson talk about it last night that he's too stubborn to change too much.

Walker, a fifth year new addition, was also the first guy up off the bench cheering when a teammate made a good play, and had his arm around Ware talking to him going into the halftime locker room.
In the post game presser he looked truly glad that Woody let them have it at halftime, and made a special point of giving props to Cupps.
He clearly is, as advertised, a fantastic culture addition.

Checked the box score and they seem to have credited Ware with only 2 of his like 5 blocks.

Post game -
Mike Woodson says Payton Sparks is 'fine' and should be good to go for Friday's exhibition against Marian. Took a nasty fall in the second half and seemed to tweak his ankle.

I know Sweet 16's aren't and shouldn't be the standard around here, but that is exactly what this program needs right now. There is something about winning two games in the NCAA Tournament and making it to another weekend of play. I'm a believer this would have happened last year with a healthy Xavier Johnson. However, the national media is weird on who they choose to respect. Illinois has ZERO business being ranked. They have Shannon and that is it. No legit PG. Hawkins is IMO one of the most overrated players in college basketball. 
Bottom line: IU has to start advancing deeper in the tournament. Many feel they underachieved the last two tournaments even though Woodson won a game each year. I love Mike Woodson and what he is doing. He's made this program respectable. He just needs a deep tournament run.

I always like to compare teams to what they were the following year. I look at this year's team and I think there is a huge advantage at the 2-4 spots. I expect Galloway to be better this year. I also expect Mackenzie and Malik to be well above the play of Miller and Race. Last year's team had an advantage with Jalen at the 1 and Trayce at the 5. That being said, there isn't a big drop off with Xavier and Kel'el. I think Payton Sparks will be like Malik and be a decent big off the bench. The addition of Anthony Walker will help. IU didn't really have a reliable 2nd forward off the bench. It will be nice to have a true point guard in Cupps off the bench. The biggest question will be IMO what can CJ Gunn and Kaleb Banks provide for this team. If they can be very solid role players I think this could really be a top 20 team. Thoughts? I'm probably drinking the preseason Kool-Aid with a game on Sunday but I don't think it is laughable to think IU will be better this year. November and December I think might be a little rough. I don't see us beating UConn or Kansas (sorry). What's insane is last year IU was #13 in the preseason poll. This year it would be #40 if you count receiving votes. 
On offense last year they really counted on Trayce and Jalen with an occasional big game from Trey, Miller, or Race. I think all 5 starters have the potential to score double figures any game.
