I really wish ESPN wasn’t part of the formula, at least in basketball. They just don’t put the same number of eyes on these kids as the other services, particularly down board kids, and they’re gonna skew some results. Not like it matters in any substantive way but it is annoying.

CDD really wanted the job, which I appreciate — he wasn’t lukewarm on IU like Ben was.  I think we got the right guy.

Some of you complain about the Big Ten not being able to compete in the tournament due to antiquated style of play. But as soon as you have a coach that is attempting to run a more modern style of play with a modern roster you begin to complain about the lack of big men. It doesn't make sense. 
Let Coach worry about who is playing what position. If we see issues next year, we can voice our complaints in the "Fire Coach Devries" thread. :)

I mean do we want to promote the party lifestyle as a key recruiting tactic? We want grinders not party animals. I’m sure they will all have their fun but let’s not make it a key selling point. Sell basketball first. 

Josh Harris averaged 13.4 points and 7.1 rebounds in just 22.5 minutes as a freshman.  
Against power five teams -- four games against South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Georgia, and Nebraska:
four games:  22 mpg, 11.5 points, 5 rebounds, 19 of 33 from the field (58%).

I like the wait and see approach. With the collection of skill sets the players have it will be fun to see it come together when the season starts. If he got a bunch of guys that work their tails off, I believe we will see a vast improvement on the court from what we have seen the last 8 years. I'm excited to see how he puts it together.

If there is, I'm not sure he would know. He had no idea Dorn was on campus till someone told him. This staff is keeping it very quiet.

Have no opinion of Drake as a player yet, but I am really happy for the kid. Straight washes out at Cleveland St but then just takes a step back, finds a path, busts his a$$ and now he’s in the B1G. If there is 1 thing with CDD so far, none of these kids is bringing a sense of entitlement with them. Gonna be a really, really easy team to root for.

Todd Golden was 16-17 in his first season, so was Dan Hurley and he didn't win a tourney game until season 5, both of them starting their current jobs during the portal era. Jim Harbaugh was 1-6 in bowl games before his Natty.
 
Highlighting exceptions to the rule doesn't make it the norm.

Would you trade it for portal haul last year? 
I'm not saying this is you but it amazes me that people put any stock in portal player rankings. Also, to my knowledge, we aren’t done yet. 

Right now we are 5th in the country in the 24/7 portal rankings, so that’s one unbiased view to take or leave.
We have many more players to add and we reportedly have plenty of money left.
We won’t know until the season starts (we learned that the hard way last year, but we have a good college bball coach now) and we are far from done in portal, but so far things look good in my view.
Edit: I just remembered @lillurk looked at Torvik’s Rostercast and noted the following with just our current seven players: “Too early for what I’m about to do, but using Torvik’s rostercast, this squad projects about where last year’s Marquette or Baylor finished the year.  Add Goode and they slide up slightly to about where Oregon was.“  So there is another unbiased view for you.

Leo Curtis will be 20 years old when he attends his first college semester.  Yes, he is still a freshman but an older freshman.  I like that.

Rabby says that while it appears that Freeman is leaning towards Auburn or Tennessee, IU is still working to land him. It's between the 3 of them right now.
