    They Fired Tom Allen!

With the Colts, I think it's just Irsay's continued attempts to make the organization feel like one big happy family. He tries so hard to not be like his dad, even if it ultimately proves detrimental to the team (Bob Irsay once fired a coach at halftime of a preseason game). In college athletics, there's just so much pressure on people to perform or be replaced. It's absolutely crazy, and I'm not sure it will change for the better any time soon. Everyone (including us) wants to win, and win now, and they're willing to throw money at anyone who appears to be an upgrade over what they currently have. The teams who have successful coaches are paying them, because if they don't, someone else will. It doesn't take much to impress disgruntled fans and their short attention spans these days, because if they aren't busy yearning for a time when they used to be good, they're usually wondering why they aren't keeping up with the Joneses. Then you have all the armchair QB's who send threatening emails to athletic directors saying they'll cancel their season tickets if nothing changes, players transferring, graduating and transferring again, recruits changing their minds while the ink dries on their LOI's...throw all this in a blender, and you have the world of college athletics. This stuff is infuriating, and athletic directors have little control over it, so I think in some small way, huge contracts allow them to feel like they have some control over their own program.

Dude’s getting paid $5 million a year. When the team he’s in charge of sucks? Yeah, he gets the blame. He recruits the players. He hires the coaches. He’s in charge.

Are you inferring that is bad? In the world of IU football, 2-3 and 5-3 is a long term extension…..

    They Fired Tom Allen!

Sorry, I was just never on board with Coach Allen. I think he is a great guy. But, he's only had two good seasons at IU (I guess we can call 2020 a full season). 0-3 in bowl games. They completely choked in the Gator Bowl and lost to a team with a losing record in the Outback Bowl. 5-15 since the contract extension. I don't care about the low standards for football...IU and their fans deserve better. I see him here another year or two unfortunately. I agree with most, I don't see a buyout happening after they just extended him in March of 2021. Side note: Why do teams/athletic programs reward coaches for okay results? Colts gave Reich, along with Ballard, a contract extension after ONE freakin playoff win. They've been a .500 team since the contract extension. Just like Glass giving Crean one after ONE good year. I don't get it...

Two interesting stats. At the half IU had 70 rushing yards but ended up with 62 for the game (yes, -8 rushing yards in the second half) At the half Henderson had 4 carries for 31 yards (7.8 yards per carry). At the end of the game Henderson had 4 carries for 31 yards (ie…did not run the ball once in the second half). That’s puzzling unless, unbeknownst to me, he was injured.

The problem is that this team is not really good at anything. Our line play is terrible. I don't blame the QB for any of our problems. If I were him, I'd just hope to get through the game in one piece. It was a huge problem last year and is a huge problem this year. That tells me that our current staff can't address glaring issues. We are Indiana so we are stuck with what we have until we can afford to do something different. The CTA era has peaked will be circling the drain until we can pay for him to go somewhere else.

Finkel would be a grand slam but I highly doubt he envisions IU being a positive contributor to his career path.

That’s interesting to hear. For some reason I don’t remember him announcing back then. I’ll never forget the game a couple of years or so ago when he interviewed his buddy Bruce Hornsby, on a split screen, for 20 minutes during an IU game. Couldn’t believe it and was also surprised the network let it go on for so long. Kind of funny now but I was pissed during the game.

If you would listen to Walton announcing from the 90's he was actually pretty good and actually talked about game.

Mathurin, man, that kid has some Kobe to him. He worked out for Detroit before the draft and you can just tell in his demeanor that he is hyper-aware that they passed on him. What cornerstone pieces he Halibuton can be.

I fell in love with GJ's call when Oladipo hit that half court shot. To me, yes he is over the top but in a way I still enjoy. He just seems to have a natural enthusiasm that isn't forced which makes it bearable to me. I get why others are put off by it though. Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk

I think January 14th or something like that of Romeo's freshman season. It was ALL downhill from there.

I know. I, as a kid, used to listen to baseball broadcasts on the radio. I've heard my share of "colorful" broadcasters. Not my cup of tea. That's one of the reasons I have enjoyed Don Fischer so much during his time doing IU games. To me, that's how it should be done.

I understand your concerns, but I don't think that CMW and CTA are in anyway comparable. CMW is an accomplished player at the highest level and a respected coach there as well. CTA is none of those things. The basketball program may well fall off some next season but I don't see it being as far as you apparently do. The '24 class will be the one that either propels us forward or not. Even CBK had down years following highly successful years. I'll wait to see how this plays out. I just know that I'm more comfortable with CMW at the helm than I have been with anyone since Coach Knight.

If he was all about LEO and loved the university he would negotiate and buyout for the fraction of what he's owed.

I agree with a lot of this. Personal taste has a lot to do with it. I really liked Johnson a few years ago, but as his popularity has increased he seems to have amped up his shtick. I'm sure there are network people telling him to do that. Same thing with Dakich. When he first started, I enjoyed listening to him. Then, he became an over the top parody of himself. Don't listen anymore. I like Gus personally, just don't care for the persona as much.

UK is exposing every one of IU's weaknesses tonight. Dominating the midfield and winning every every second and third ball. Now we continue to have goalie issues as Pratt whiffed on a save at a shot right at him. Whatever it takes, IU has got to address the goalie position in offseason. First goal and third goal were by no means Pratt's fault but an elite goalie like Celantano or Muse in past might be able to bail you out on some of these. Neither Harms or Pratt is ever gonna bail out a defense and will let in a soft one from time to time. Tonight is nothing more than the gap showing up between the top team in college soccer and a decent top 20 IU team.

We are who we are. I've been watching this since around 1960. Except for a few odd bright times, bottom feeder is who we are. We will never, or at least not any time soon, compete with the powers in the conference. They fill huge stadiums, we can't fill our much smaller stadium. They have traditions going back generations. Coach Hep tried to do that here but never really got the chance. I have no idea what can be done here, but for my lifetime nothing has made a lasting difference. I'm tired of waiting and am done investing energy and emotion in Indiana football.

Still need to find a guy or two that can hit treys with some consistency. Still the biggest weakness for IU imo.

    (2025)-PF Bryson Tiller

All, The board is easier to read and navigate when a thread is on topic. That way, readers know what they're getting, and where to look for information or discussion. So, let's get this thread back to Bryson Tiller, and move the discussion about the state of financial changes in college basketball back to the NIL or TV deal thread. Thanks
