You’re almost certainly right about more of it now that the money is what it is. And from a purely skill development standpoint, this is absolutely the better option. That’s not arguable in any honest way. But I don’t agree that the G League offers anything like a comparable opportunity to build their individual brand, at least not yet, outside of the shoe world. Jonathon Kuminga and Jalen Green were bigger names than Jalen Suggs a year ago. Not now. Suggs’ exposure at Gonzaga changed that. Zion was a youtube sensation and a big name recruit, but his Duke exposure turned him into ZION. But, with enthusiastic NBA backing, I’m sure they will develop numerous streams to grow these kids as commodities. What I’d be interested to learn about are the League’s strategies and programs for turning these kids into men. I know this is an old dude talking now, but Scoot Henderson isn’t a man. He’s a boy. He is not fully formed in any way. He can’t be. None of these kids can be. My college career ended about a hundred years ago, and I was strictly a guy, but I had experiences and relationships that were fundamental to my growth into(I think) a fully formed adult. College coaches worth their salt, and I’m confident Woody is 1 of those guys, play enormous roles in the maturation of kids, even if it’s only for a year. I’m not saying these kids are wrong to take this tack or for the NBA to try to co-opt options like foreign leagues. I wouldn’t presume. But, if they’re gonna actively recruit 17 year old children, not as exceptions, but as a fundamental element of their business model, they have to assume a large measure of responsibility for the maturation and well being of these kids while they have them. And I’d really like to know what that piece of the program looks like and how they’re gonna execute it. Sorry, that was only supposed to be the first 3 sentences. Then it turned into kind of a blather. -

Better chance of us never hearing about him again than there is of him making the nba, imo. -

I know about a hundred USF grads. 100% of the ones I asked had no idea about the basketball program. Welcome to IU Michael Durr! You made an excellent decision. -

Alllllllll I'm saying I love where we are front court wise with TJD, Kopp, Durr, Duncomb, Thompson, and Geronimo. All American, experience, two guys developing but will still get opportunities. CMW and staff have assembled, on paper, an excellent/well balanced roster. Pieces really compliment each other. Kopp, Durr, and Bates at the end of this spring... excellent work. -

We’ll see more of this, the G League now pays decent but more significantly it’s become a legit route, with professional development and player competition level, to the NBA. It’s no longer necessary to build a brand in college ball. The G League is now real. -

ESPECIALLY Geronimo. He's the 'X-factor' in my opinion. -

While it is always fascinating to read opinions on exactly what Coach Woodson is going to do and how he is going to do it, I doubt even Coach knows that yet for certain. He certainly knows what he wants to do but so much of what he is able to do will depend on the development of every player on the roster. Right now he has options, which is great but there are also a lot variables and moving pieces. I think or hope at least, that for the first time in quite awhile we have a coach that is flexible enough to do what will make IU the most successful it can be instead of rigidly sticking to the same plan despite glaring flaws in that plan or lacking critical components to execute it effectively. -

Thing is we’re likely to see multiple different lineups in multiple games and I’d be surprised if we didn’t see the two together, situationally, at some point — Woodson has shown over many years that he is flexible and will run the team and sets needed as a game can dictate - and that will be refreshing. -

Right...that's it! Same sh!t, different bucket? -
1 pointI mean.. I don't disagree, but TJD is a fair amount better around the rim than Durr. And Durr has at least shown the ability to shoot "some".
-
1 pointWith the other players being targeted I fully expect him to be more of a 3 in college if he comes to IU which has to be appealing to him. Not to mention his coach Ya connections that are a big help as well.

So much potential. Love his skillset into either the 3 or 4 spot. If he’s our “Wing” for the class, we’ve done well. -
1 pointI expect him to end up at IU. Could be the next kid to pull the trigger. Hopefully it's soon after his visit.

1 pointWow--pretty dang impressive--the young man is wise and mature beyond his years. I'm gonna speculate that there is some excellent parenting involved. The fact that a five star with this level of maturity and character was immediately attracted to the current IU staff is extraordinarily encouraging. Personality-wise reminds me of a young Yogi Ferrell or Randy Wittman. No nonsense, no robotic or canned answers, and an innate knack for understanding what is important.
-
1 pointDurr is not an effective post scorer--he's a big, strong seven-footer that hasn't shown that ability in three years. He may have a better chance to develop as a 'have to guard him' stand still outside shooter than as a low post scorer. Completely agree--not every big is gonna become the next Kevin Durant. I'm guessing that Durr or Thompson will primarily spell TJD for ten minutes per game. HOWEVER, an immobile big can become a decent stand still outside shooter (see Bielfeldt, Max). Both Thompson and Durr have shown glimmers of ability to do this. If either could do this consistently, they would then be an option to be on the court at the same time as TJD. If not? They are backup 5s IMO.

Personally, I am not necessarily against, but I don't think it is feasible. I know of quite a few schools who have trouble getting enough competent people to help at the table right now for the clock, the book and Stats panel(if they have it). Now they have to find one more to do the shot clock, a job we see in the College game that constantly sees mistakes with people who are paid good money to operate(or at least FAR more than the 10-25 a game a teacher or someone in the community to do. I know small schools that can barely afford the equipment to play the game and now they must spend a few thousand for the clock system? Another question I have is what level? Just Varsity? Or the other levels also? I have seen kids play F/S level on Saturday morning, then play JV later in the game and some Varsity. I could see some being confused. Girls also?
