The part where “we did this to ourselves”. You know? The part I quoted? Where you said that us being unable to steer clear of a global pandemic is our fault. If we “could of” just been better at not catching the doggone virus. Something that like 3 Power 5 schools have avoided this season. Let’s punish the players that caused the outbreak though. Clue. Less.

Why this always comes back to jerseys and traditions is beside me. This has zero to do with why Archie isn’t recruiting well. Zero. Wins, tournament success, a free flowing offense, vision within the system, playing time, opportunity to get to the NBA. These are the things the recruits look at. Regardless, Archie is slipping on the recruiting front and needs to figure things out. I loved the focused approach when it was working, but the Brooks, Carton, Kaufman, Garland type recruitments have me jaded. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners

I agree that some top recruits find Indiana basketball unappealing. But it doesn't have anything to do with the uniforms or the facility or the fans (all most recruits know about the fans is the crazy atmosphere during home games). The problem is with performance on the court. IU has had decent but not especially good (or exciting) teams under Archie Miller even with home grown stars like Romeo Langford and Trayce Jackson Davis. It has been almost a decade since IU was a top ten team. Michigan State, Ohio State, and even Illinois now seem like better destinations for top 30 players. The answer isn't putting names on the uniform or spending hundreds of millions on a new facility. The answer is to start winning more.

    (2022) - SG C. J. Gunn to DePaul

I like Gunn a lot. I hope IU pushes hard for him. Bad call at the end of that game. Game should of went into 2OT

Do we have to start with an opinion? If so, I haven't liked a coach other than Archie since Knight. I know how Davis got the job and he was bad from day 1. There was never an ounce of respect to or from him until the day he was removed. Bad hire. Sampson could coach but was Calipari level dirty. Bad hire. Crean was bad from the very start and got very lucky with Oladipo. Bad hire....wait, this bad hiring is a trend? Archie can coach; he's Tony Bennett - except to be the coach at IU right now is a massive uphill hike. No one wants the job; too much pressure, years of mediocrity and a critical fan base that expects you to come in and reverse a 20 year trend at the drop of a hat. I don't believe in naming kids, but there were some REALLY rotten eggs over the last few years which Archie could not remove due to the situation Crean left him. The guys he inherited weren't willing to play the way he coached, and also didn't care to try. Some never should have been given a scholarship to begin with. All that said, I actually like what I see out of Archie and also think Cliff Marshall has presented a lot of our shooting issues with turning the kids into mini-body-builders (it's a problem). Archie has recruited very well; people are SO critical when we miss on a Trey Kaufman type, but look at what/who he has brought in. Imagine if TJD had gone to Purdue. Or Lander to UK. Or Romeo to Louisville. Nope, they all came to Bloomington, plus more. Hunter, Galloway, Leal, Rob...he is getting the guys he wants; the simply don't always pan out until they're a JR or SR. We played FSU, on the road and largely outsized, to a squeaker in overtime. Some poor and selfish decisions were made near in OT, which if you were watching, did not thrill Archie. Those "hero ball" quick offensive sets cost us the game, but they're going to correct themselves. We're way, way better than we were last year. We're disciplined, and that's powerful. Last year we were not. And 2 losses to 2 really good teams doesn't mean jack right now. Duke has 2 losses with nothing but 5 stars. UK, 1-3 with all future NBA players. Purdue, 2 bad losses. UVA - not a great start. Also, just my opinion, but IL is a live-and-die by the tempo of the game team. They'll take their lumps... Archie deserves more credit than many give him. There's no one that wants this job, so if we give him the guillotine, who exactly is coming to Bloomington to save the day? "Billy Donovan", right?

I am in such a joyful holiday mood. I've just finished watching the first half of ND kicking the excrement out of pUKe and smearing it all over Rupp Arena. And I hope to be in a similar joyful mood tomorrow afternoon. North Alabama is 2-1 on the season with both wins against non-D1 competition. It's projected to finish 6th in the 9-team Atlantic Sun Conference. Last year we routed No. Alabama 91-65 and the point differential in this year's game should again be 20+ points. Radio Live Stats

Agree with this. ... A year or so ago, someone posted a postcast with an "insider" who seemed to know his stuff -- don't recall his name, however. I can't say for sure how reliable this person was -- because all "appear" to know what they're talking about. He seemed pretty knowledgeable, however. But he said that after Crean was let go, realistically there were three candidates for IU: Chris Mack (Xavier), Chris Holtmann (Butler) and Archie (Dayton). ... Mack preferred Louisville and Holtmann wasn't interested in the fish bowl that is IU. And I don't think he was necessarily implying that Archie was our third choice. When Texas Tech made their run a couple years back, many were saying "hire Chris Beard" -- as if he would just drop everything and crawl to Bloomington had we called. It doesn't work that way anymore. For the record, I liked the Archie hire (then again, I liked the Crean hire and hated the Tom Allen and Teri Moren hires -- so my track record isn't all that great. LOL!). I'm still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I hope he can point us in the right direction and keep us there. Otherwise, I'm not sure what the options are. And I can't say I know a whole lot about Scott Dolson, but the fact that he's never hired a coach is a bit of a concern to me.

In overtime of the final game of the Forum Tipoff Classic Lawrence North defeated Logan Duncomb and Moeller 58 - 57. North controlled the tempo throughout the 4th Q and OT and demonstrated great ball control with only 7 TOs for the entire game. Gunn finished with 15 pts. on 5-12 FG; 1-3 on 3s; 4-5 FT; 6 reb; 2 assts; 1 stl; 1 blk; 1 TO

    IU Football Ranked!

Caught the end of the game, Army's unis were a legitimate military version of a football uniform, better than that crap Adidas tried to pass off to IU for military appreciation. It was neat to see the game at one of their academies rather than in a soulless NFL stadium.

A slick jersey as an alternate would be one thing. Primary uniforms I'd keep the clean simple look and update cut/material. Frankly though, I'm not convinced recruits care much (or at all) about how the jersey looks.

Some decent points made from both sides of the fence in this thread so far. Most of you know that I’m an Archie guy, I think he’s miles better than CTC in terms of “coaching”. One of my biggest issues with this topic is the lack of names people suggest would come to IU now and make us better within 3 years. We’d have to hire someone young, similar to Archie. Is there a young coach out there right now that can have greater success in 3 years than Archie currently? I don’t think so. We made the tourney last year, CAM is showing signs of switching up his coaching philosophy, we’ve locked down the state of Indiana for the most part. The only thing people can really complain about is our lack of shooting. I get it, we were spoiled by CTC’s team and our offense. But the fact is, this fan base has been spoiled for years. We expect NCAA championships which I fully agree with. But what most fans can’t understand is that basketball has changed dramatically since we last won. Landing the top recruits and best shooters won’t automatically bring us a championship, ask Kentucky about that. Until there is a proven head coach that is willing to walk into Cook Hall, we must accept Archie. Anyone other than Archie in college basketball at his age range would just be a lateral move.

Congrats to Kane! A sign that IU is a program trending in the right detection, I can’t wait to see how he does at South Bama. We will certainly miss Wommack’s defense and whatever other coaches he brings with him, but I imagine many coaches across the country would kill for the opportunity to coach with Tom Allen. I have full faith that CTA hires the right man for the job and the defense continues their dominance! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Aminu becomes Greenwood’s career scoring leader with 2,242 points, passing Julius Walker (2,235; ‘17). Now second in city history in career scoring, trailing only Monty Johal (2,583; Glendale ‘18). Also learned something today. Missouri high school basketball uses a running clock in the 4th quarter when the point differential at the end of the 3rd Q is 30 or more points. Happened in both Aminu's game and in Tarris Reed's game.

Just because a young player has an NBA future doesn’t automatically make him to the best option in college especially when that player should still be playing against high school level talent. Throwing him into the fire like you say could have the opposite effect on him then you think. You say not playing him is screwing him and this team but maybe throwing a kid that just turned 18 into situations that he isn’t ready for could destroy his confidence. Coaches are always going to play the kids that give them the best chance to win the games in front of them and right now Lander isnt one of those kids yet. Everyone can see his potential and sees he has the most upside but in my opinion he just isn’t ready for big minutes. He wouldn’t be the first young 5 star kid that has came off the bench and slowly got adjusted to the college game and won’t be the last.

Answer is still the same as it was the last 2 Years you have made a thread similar 2 this one. it depends on each individual as to whether the writing is on the wall for him as coach. For some the writing was on the wall the minute he was hired, for others the writing began forming on the wall after a couple years and for others the answer is still no. Look forward to nexts years version of this thread. I might just copy and paste this one for next year

Since you're a critic (obviously), my guess is you're trying to justify your narrative -- which is strewn relentlessly throughout this board. Since you've written over and and over and over and over again how you feel about Archie, my only question would be -- is this thread really even necessary?
