    College Bball Thread

Well I did grow up believing the world revolves around me. Back to college basketball, Monday is my first day back at work for the year (I teach) and that begins my earnest countdown to fall break which is the beginning of practice. I start to really get anxious to get the season rolling this time every year. Fall break is also when my wife is due to give birth to our 2nd child making our first no longer an only like me. See how I tied all these topics together? Sent from my LG-D850 using BtownBanners mobile app

Great interview. Could have went without those reporters who kept dropping the 1 and done line. Bottom line: 1 and done players aren't produced by these schools. They are rented.

I think you guys are piling it on X a little to thick again. He's pretty much right when he says that most kids are going to select to play in the NBA and make money when presented with the opportunity to go pro or stay in school. Sure you can find counter-examples, Dunn, Bryant, Marcus Smart, etc., but those kids tend to be the exceptions these days and not the rule. Using baseball as a comparison isn't really fair at all. There are 40 rounds in the MLB draft. Generally if a high school kid is selected in the first 5 rounds, he is a lock to skip college. Once you get in the later rounds, and your chances of actually making a MLB roster are slim, kids will generally elect to attend college. Most, I assume, are trying to improve their draft stock (who wouldn't want to?), some value an education as well. I not a huge fan of the "one and done" rule either, because I think there are some better models. Let the kids go straight out of high school. Let a kid be drafted by a team, but come back to school. They hold his rights for X amount of years. Things of that nature. Each model will have its drawbacks and critics. But, I also don't buy into the philosophy that college-aged kids value an education less than they used to. Sure, some kids may not take it serious when they are on campus for a year. Back in the day some kids who were on campus for multiple years still didn't take it serious. It's all up to the individual in every case.

Haha, I knew I would offend someone. I enjoy learning about behavior and some can stem from only child syndrome. Of course it doesn't fit everyone.

Didn't listen to the interview but he isn't a one and done. He's in that perfect place, honestly.

Pretty sure it's been said before but this kids game is very reminiscent of Rawle Alkins'. Hard not to love that type of game.

I never said that someone selected in the top 5 rounds of the MLB draft was a lock to make the MLB. I said they will "generally skip college and go to the MLB." Which is the truth. It just seems like a lot of nitpicking to me. Some deserved, some not deserved.

    From IU to the WWE

I see where you're coming from. Believe me, I know Bayley has a lot of potential. Personally I like Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch a bit more, Sasha has more attitude to her gimmick and Becky's back story. JR has said Lynch and Banks can be the female Rock/Stone Cold, neither have the attitude of those two but that can help draw a different portion of the female demographic. All 3 are more than capable of putting on a good show if they're given time to let the story unfold, unfortunately right now Becky Lynch isn't. It all just comes down to if they are booked the right way. That division was ruled like that. They caught lightening in a bottle with Trish Stratus, then just cycled through a laundry list of fitness models or other attractive women with little to no development. Charlotte at least has some in ring ability, but I wouldn't put her on the level of the 3 we've discussed. Eva Marie really shouldn't have been called up. I agree about the message it sends; it's male dominated and always will be, but it's a good thing to have female talents that are genuinely good performers.

Bryant wanted to hang out with his teammates and enjoy the big-man-on-big-campus college spring season because, while the lure of pro riches is strong, there’s a lot to be said for life outside the real world. And you’d better believe pro basketball is rim-rocking real. "I thought, I love playing under Coach (Tom) Crean and playing with my guys,” Bryant said during Wednesday’s IU alumni gathering at Huber’s Wineries in southeastern Indiana. “I knew the key things I needed to get better at, so I thought I’d take that time to work on the things I needed to get better at, then go home and return to IU ready for the summer.” Bryant projected as a possible first-round pick, perhaps even a lottery selection. As a freshman, he averaged 11.9 points and 5.8 rebounds. He shot nearly 70 percent from the field and was three-for-three in double-figure scoring games in the NCAA tourney, including an impressive 19 points in the Kentucky win. Still, the first round means guaranteed millions of dollars, so not just passing on the draft, but also on the chance to work out with NBA teams, participate in the NBA Combine and receive input from NBA coaches, scouts and others was a significant decision for this former McDonald’s All-America. After all, 117 underclassmen did declare for the draft, and if most returned to school, all got a thorough evaluation from NBA officials. “I talked to my parents, I talked to my coaches, the coaching staff and I talked to a couple of other people that are close to me to help me with this process,” he said. “The best decision for me was to just return. It was my decision to not test the waters. I wanted to stay here and be with my teammates, the coaching staff and get better.”
