Class of '66 Old Fart

(2017) PG Bendu Yeaney to IUWBB

Recommended Posts

For the entire first quarter, Bendu Yeaney sat and cheered on her teammates from the bench as she waited for her time to play. Then she took the court and led them to victory.

Yeaney scored 31 points in three quarters against eighth-seeded Sheldon, and No. 25 St. Mary’s Academy pulled off a Class 6A first-round playoff shocker, winning 60-39 on Wednesday at Sheldon High.

Yeaney’s absence in the first quarter wasn’t a surprise to the Irish (18-7), who knew beforehand she was going to sit out, they just weren’t able to capitalize as St. Mary’s (12-11) closed the quarter on an 8-3 run to trail 13-12 going into the second quarter.

St. Mary’s coach Dewey Taylor III wouldn’t get into why Yeaney didn’t play in the first quarter, but was pleased with her performance once she did. “That’s in-house,” he said.

SMA vs West Linn on Saturday.

Sounds like it must have been one of those 'violation of team rules' things!
