LEBANON, Tenn. – Over 35 underclass prospects participated in the CoachHemi.com Fall Workout at the beginning of October. With a number of experienced coaches and skills trainers in the building, players had a wealth of experience at their disposal to help grow their game. The opportunity for exposure helped players build a reputation for themselves heading into the winter months.

Shelby Calhoun (Louisville, Ky.), Christian Academy HS – 2020

Coaches often look for size, poise and a polished skill set when evaluating the point guard position. Calhoun, at 5-10, checks many of the boxes that are needed to play the position effectively. She handles the ball effectively versus pressure while also being able to hit the open jumper. Impressively she did not try to force the issue in this camp setting, but instead understood the importance of involving her teammates in game play. Calhoun is only scratching the surface of her potential. The expectation is that she will grow into a capable play-maker as she transitions to Indy Lady Gym Rats organization next spring and summer.

WOW! Hopefully Penn and Berger are working on this.

Ranked among Kentucky’s top players in the Class of 2020, Christian Academy’s Shelby Calhoun started her sophomore season in style Monday night.

Calhoun, a 5-foot-9 guard, posted 35 points, 33 rebounds, seven assists and five steals as the Centurions beat host Fern Creek 79-65.

Calhoun finished 10 of 23 from the field and 15 of 19 from the free-throw line as CAL won its season opener.

According to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s record book, Calhoun’s 33 rebounds are tied for the fourth-most in a single game in state history. Pike County Central’s Amanda Collins set the record of 36 rebounds against Feds Creek on Jan. 3, 1997.

Calhoun is in her fourth season with the CAL varsity squad after joining as a seventh-grader. She averaged 17 points and 11.5 rebounds last season and has scholarship offers from the following schools: Butler, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Marquette, Michigan, Ohio State, Purdue, Xavier and West Virginia.

Good grief, it's not like the other team was chopped liver as it scored 65 pts.   And she's "only" been on the varsity since 7th grade!   lol   This is a special talent.  Surprised not to see some of the perennial women's powerhouse programs on the list.  Guess they don't have to start their recruiting efforts as early as some of us do!
