Sounds like a garbage piece written to get clicks from an excitable fanbase, see all articles on ESPN written about Lousiville, Kentucky, Duke, etc.

I read it this morning. Basically bc others are working hard for the 4, we are likely to miss. Long ways to go and I'd say we have about as good a shot with them all as the other programs, outside of Jackson.

Until we've missed on the in-state guys we've been targeting, it's a garbage piece. Look! Indiana still hasn't received commitments from these guys who are uncommitted! They could miss all of them!

Ohio State comes to mind too. Virtually all the good high school players from Ohio pick OSU and relatively early.

Kennard didn't, and went to Duke. Trey Burke was a miss and blossomed later. But most 4star/5stars from Ohio end up at OSU.

I see why the narrative is out there. If Kentucky ever had a legit great player and he didn't go to UK or Louisville, people would be shocked.

Do we have room for those 4? Do they want to play behind the upper classmen we have?

Some players want to start on great teams, some want to start on crappy teams, some want to learn on great team awaiting their turn. It depends on where these kids fall if Indiana is truly their best option.

 

 

We got a bunch with RMK but seems like there were a few big name players we didn't get each year....

Not Woody Austin. Not Shawn Kemp. Not Chandler Thompson. Not Erik Montross. Not Zach Randolph, Not Charles Macon. Not Scott Skiles. Not Glenn Robinson....

Basically we got the class of '89 and a player or 2 each year.

Unfortunately, getting the class of  '12 didn't do much for us.

Count me in the camp that thinks it sounds like a garbage piece for the reasons Walking Boot gave. 

 

I'm not sure the Ohio St. thing is true. Terry Rozier, Tyler Ulis, Nigel Hayes (3*), Devin Williams, Carlton Bragg, Esa Ahmad, VJ King, Jarron Cumberland, Nick Ward, Matthew Moyer, Xavier Simpson and on and on...

That's in addition to the mentioned above and just over the last 3-4 years. That's a lot of talent leaving the state.

I don't know the proportional numbers when comparing more Indiana prospects/losses vs Ohio prospects/losses. Another thing I don't know, but strongly believe, is if you take this fan base and relocate them to Ohio, they would complain about losing guys in Ohio. I think it's just a thing at this point. 

Not saying you're a part of that crowd or even that that crowd is wrong, I don't agree with them but I guess I get the beef. 

 

The UK/UL getting a Kentucky prospect is a different conversation, imo.

As long as the '17 in-state guys don't commit until the Spring, I'm not worried at all.  It seems they're all just going through the recruiting process.

Yeah they may be leaning out of state for now, but we have the opportunity to showcase ourselves really well this season if we take advantage of it.

We should have a really good year, and if we come out and trash North Carolina at home, beat Louisville on a neutral floor, and take care of Kansas to start the season, and contend for another B1G championship, IU will look a lot better to recruits whether they are from Indiana or elsewhere.

Another horrendous situation getting swept under the rug!?? This crap drives me nuts! It is amazing what some of these schools, coaches and politicians can get by with!

Good counter Pap. The players you mentioned for OSU are solid pieces. They aren't a supposedly a blue blood program either. Then again, we arguably aren't currently either.

I think that is where it lies. Many fans want to be the very top tier. We are having good second tier type successes and results. Those that are content with that are happy. Half the time this includes me but I really want the program to be top tier again and any deviation from that worries me and maybe other fans.

I can be content with sweet sixteen type teams all day if we are consistent and growing.

I think the UK argument is different because they are considering a top tier team and generally players don't leave the state if they can get the top right at home.

That's why I tried picking OSU because they are more like us, or Michigan. It was my imagination Ohio State kept more in state players. Your counter was great and i may be off about that thought.

It's a frustrating time, but it certainly keeps our collective juices flowing.   The list cutting by the prospects is way out of hand but they are eating it up and loving every minute of the attention they're getting.  Sadly, I think a lot of schools get led on that they're in the mix for a particular kid when they really aren't.  Hopefully our staff has enough experience to know which recruits are genuinely interested in IU and which are simply playing a game.
