IU Volleyball taking on #15 ranked Kentucky today in the Bluegrass Battle in Lexington, KY.

Kentucky takes the first set 25-16; Hoosiers win the 2nd set 25-22 but Kentucky takes the 3rd set 25-22.   Lady Hoosiers take the 4th set 25-20 and we're in set #5.

Huge and signature win of the Aird era so far against a rival. Still not sure yet how good of a coach he is or if program will succeed under him but this is a great step forward.

Team is off to a great start.  Let's hope the wheels don't fall off.

IU received 13 votes in the latest AVCA Coaches poll.  Indiana hasn’t been ranked since 2010.  In two weekends when Big Ten play starts, Hoosiers will play two (No. 7 Minnesota, No. 9 Wisconsin) top 10 teams to open conference play.

The Indiana volleyball team improved to 10-2 on the season with a 3-1 (25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 25-11) victory over Stetson and a 3-2 (16-25, 25-18, 17-25, 25-16, 15-8) victory against South Florida.  They face South Florida again this afternoon at 2:00.
 
Key Moments

The Hoosiers jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Stetson winning the first two sets, 25-19, 25-17.

Indiana faced adversity in the third second, down 17-10, but came back to take a 22-21 lead on a kill from Kendall Beerman.

After dropping the third set, 25-23, the Hoosiers jumped out to a 6-1 lead in set four.

Stetson closed the gap to two at 9-7 in the fourth set, but Indiana used a 16-4 run to close the match.

After falling in the first set to South Florida, Indiana scored the first four points of the second set.

USF used a 6-0 run to tie the second set, 18-18, but Indiana responded with a 7-0 run to win the second, 25-18. Bayli Lebo had two aces in the run.

USF closed the third set with a 7-1 run to win it and go up 2-1 in the match.

The Hoosiers responded, forcing a fifth set with a 25-16 set four win.

USF got out to a 4-2 lead in the fifth set, but Indiana came back with a 6-0 run to go up 8-4.

Indiana won the fifth set, 15-8 on a block by Deyshia Lofton and Hayden Huybers. 

Notables

The Hoosiers improved to 10-2 on the season and have one more non-conference match left on the season.

Haley Armstrong had her third 20 dig match of the season against Stetson.

Emily Fitzner recorded her first career double-double against Stetson with 17 assists and 11 digs.

The Hoosiers had 15 blocks against Stetson, their sixth match of the season with double-digit blocks. They added 15 blocks against South Florida to push it to seven matches.

Indiana is averaging 15 blocks per match over their last four matches.

Jacqui Armer recorded eight digs and hit .533 against Stetson. Kari Zumach added nine kills and hit .364. Armer had 10 kills and hit .391 against South Florida.

Kamryn Malloy tallied 12 kills, eight digs, five blocks and three aces against Stetson.

Hayden Huybers led the Hoosiers with seven blocks against South Florida.

Off to a fantastic start with another win Saturday afternoon.  Conference play opens next Friday night at Minnesota.

The Indiana volleyball team finished non-conference play with a 3-1 (25-22, 18-25, 25-12, 25-21) win on Saturday to push their record to 11-2 heading into Big Ten play.
 
Key Moments

After dropping the first point of the match, Indiana scored six of the next seven and took a 6-2 lead on an ace by Deyshia Lofton. After a USF point, Indiana used a 4-0 run to go up 10-3 on a block by Breana Edwards and Jacqui Armer.

USF made a late run to close the gap to two at 24-22, but Indiana put away the first set with a kill from Lofton.

South Florida had three different spurts of 3-0 runs in the second set on the way to evening the match with a 25-18 set two victory.

Up 9-6 in the third set, Indiana went on a 7-1 run to go up 16-7. The Hoosiers would continue the momentum and take the third set, 25-12. 

The Hoosiers jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the fourth set, but South Florida closed to within one at 12-11.

Up 17-15 Indiana scored three straight points to go up 20-15 on a block by Kamryn Malloy and Deyshia Lofton and closed the match with a 25-21 win in set four.

 
Notables

The Hoosiers improved to 11-2 to finish non-conference play.

Deyshia Lofton led Indiana with 13 kills and one error to hit .444 for the match

Haley Armstrong led Indiana in digs with 17 and Victoria Brisack posted a double-double with 14 digs and 23 assists.

The win was the seventh straight win for the Hoosiers.

Jacqui Armer had eight kills and hit .438 against South Florida.

For the tournament Armer hit .444 with 26 kills and two errors. Armer was named the MVP of the USF Invitational.

Deyshia Lofton and Megan Sloan were also selected to the All-Tournament Team for the USF Invitational. Lofton has been selected for the All-Tournament Team in each of the Hoosiers four non-conference tournaments.

Lofton hit .413 with 29 kills and three errors and added 14 blocks for the tournament.

Hoosiers In Non-Conference
The Hoosiers finished the non-conference part of their schedule with an 11-2 record, including a win over then No. 15 Kentucky. Indiana has won their last seven matches. Senior Deyshia Lofton ranks fourth in the Big Ten in hitting percentage (.454) and 11th in the conference in blocks at 1.16/set.
 
The Win over Kentucky
The win over Kentucky was a significant win for the program. It was the Hoosiers first victory over Kentucky since 1996. It was also the first win for Indiana over a non-conference ranked opponent since 1998. The last Hoosier win on the road over a ranked opponent was 2013 at Michigan State.
 
In the Polls
The Hoosiers received nine votes in the latest AVCA top-25 poll. The last time an Indiana volleyball team has been ranked in the top-25 was the 2010 season.
