Nate Sudfeld - Detroit Lions

Recommended Posts

Suds is going to be a stud. After a year or two in an NFL film room and workout program he will be a beast. The big thing for Suds will be learning how to work from under center. Whether he is a third string QB or on a team's practice squad somewhere, he is going to see enormous margin improvements in his game his first two years.

His biggest issue is not reading the field and his progressions quickly enough. He also plays too strictly too the play book. Either that or they were telling him to throw the famous screen pass no matter what. Also.. For being 6-6 he had his passes tip at the line too often. But his size gives him potential.

Sud had a good debut for the Skins tonight, 10/15, 89 yds and a TD (0 INT's). I could see him staying on there as their 3rd QB.

Oh he is definitely staying on. He's the only QB on the roster that was drafted by the current Washington regime. You guys know that NFL front office guys have bigger egos than the players. He's in it for the long haul in Washington.

Redskins rookie Nate Sudfeld shines in debut

The 6-foot-6 signal caller led the Redskins to their only two touchdown drives of Thursday night’s preseason opener against the Falcons.

“It was a lot of fun to play, it’s been awhile since I’ve actually gotten to play and be live and stuff, so getting those first few hits felt really good, kind of [to] get back in the rhythm of things,” Sudfeld said. “Guys were playing really well, it’s fun to play with the guys. I thought the offense when I was in, the offense in general was pretty sharp, we just have to clean up some penalties but it was a lot of fun to play.”

Sudfeld completed 10-of-15 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown, which was to tight end Marcel Jensen.  “Yeah it felt really good, but it was really our O-line was blocking on some individual runs, running backs were running really well, there was really good protection when I was throwing the ball and guys were making some good catches,” Sudfeld said. “I’m a quarterback, I’m a part of the puzzle, so I thought I did alright but the guys around me had a really good performance as well.”

Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy are mentoring the rookie. Cousins had impactful advice for Sudfeld ahead of Thursday’s performance.  “They were in my ear all week and then all day and then during the game,” Sudfeld said. “So it was really good to have those guys. Before the game Kirk said, ‘Let go and let God in,’ and I really took that to heart and it’s fun. I feel like I’ve trained hard for this and I felt prepared out there so I just went and had a good time and tried to play with a smile on my face and march us downfield so it was fun.”
