Former Bishop Luers standout Sydney Curry now at Horizon Christian

Sophomore left Bishop Luers earlier this month, debuted for Jaguars on Friday Night

Sydney Curry, a high ranking prospect in the Class of 2019, has found a new home at Horizon Christian Academy in Fort Wayne new coach Anthony Beasley confirmed Monday.
As a freshman, Curry averaged 11.3 points and nine rebounds per game a year ago at Bishop Luers. Curry left Bishop Luers at the beginning of November without official confirmation of the reasoning.
"We believe in shaping kids and developing character, so why would I tell him he couldn't have the same opportunity?," said Beasley, who is also an administrator at the school.
Curry played his first games with the Jaguars last Friday and Saturday. Curry scored 24 points and had 15 rebounds against Colonial Christian on Friday night in his debut. On Saturday, Curry shot 21-of-24 from the field for a game high 42 points against Heritage Hall Christian while also grabbing 15 rebounds.

"Sydney is one of the most advanced high school players I have ever seen with his footwork. What he can do already, this kid is special," said Beasley. "After Friday night, I knew he was something special and Saturday he took it to another level. If we can help him mature from where he is now to his maximum capability, it is going to be an interesting journey."
During the summer, the 6-foot-7, 235 pound Curry plays AAU for Indiana Elite and has a lot of interest from Division I colleges including Indiana, Purdue, Michigan State and Xavier. Rivals.com lists Curry as receiving offers from Bradley and IUPUI.
Curry is not the only transfer that the Jaguars add to their roster this season. Junior Coleone Davis, who played at Horizon Christian as a freshman and South Side as a sophomore, has returned to the school. The Jaguars have also added Daquan and Taquan Sample, formerly of North Side.
"He felt comfortable that he would be able to come here and blend in and they willingly accepted him as a person. At the end of the day, our first option is how can we help these kids as people. We don't invite problems when we already have a program that is working," said Beasley.

Horizon Christian will visit Curry's former school, Bishop Luers, on December 13.

Horizon Christian 101, Hudsonville 61: Sophomore Sydney Curry had 26 points and 17 rebounds for the Jaguars in a game played at Spiece Fieldhouse.

Through 7 games he's averaging 25.7/game; 15 reb and 4 assists.   Not sure of the overall quality of the competition he's facing as most of their opponents are private schools.   They were beaten by LaLumiere 99-55 in November but Curry had 20 pts. and 16 reb. in that game.

It's almost impossible to keep track of kids in Fort Wayne.
