Hoosiers Set Ten Personal Records at Stanford and Auburn

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University track and field competed at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Stanford University and the War Eagle Invitational hosted by Auburn University. The Hoosiers set a total of ten personal record over the weekend and had two season-best performances.
 
Cardinal Classic:
 
Day one of the Cardinal Classic featured the men's and women's 800m run. On the men's side senior Daniel Kuhn brought home the gold in the invitational section with a season-best time of 1:48.14. Kuhn now has the second fastest time in the Big Ten and sits at the No. 17 spot in the nation. Redshirt senior Jordan Huntoon finished behind Kuhn earning the silver with the time of 1:50.46.
 
On the women's side senior Kendell Wiles earned bronze in the invitational section when she crossed the finish line in 2:06.25. Sophomore Joely Pinkston ran a personal best time of 2:08.85 to finish second in section two and ninth overall.
 
Day two of the Cardinal Classic featured nine Hoosiers and nine personal records in the men's and women's 1,500m and the men's 10,000m. On the men's side redshirt junior Joe Murphy crossed the finish line first in the men's 1,500m invitational section bringing the gold home with a personal best time of 3:42.68, which is the second fastest time in the Big Ten. Redshirt freshman Ben Veatch finished right behind Murphy with a personal best time of 3:43.28, running the third fastest time in the Big Ten and bringing home the silver. Sophomore Cooper Williams closed out the invitational section for the Hoosiers with a personal best time of 3:44.67, which earned him a fourth place finish and the sixth fastest time in the Big Ten.

On the women's side redshirt junior Katherine Receveur finished fourth overall in the 1,500m invitational section with a personal best time of 4:14.92. Receveur now has the second best time in school history, the fourth fastest time in the Big Ten and the 11th fastest time in the nation. The school record was set in 1987 by Colette Goudreau (4:14.33).
 
Junior Kelsey Harris ran the seventh best time in the Big Ten when she finished second overall with a personal best time of 4:21.92 in the second section. Junior Haley Harris finished right behind her sister with a personal best time of 4:22.52, which is the ninth fastest time in the Big Ten. Redshirt freshman Hannah Stoffel ran a personal best time and finished third in the fourth section with the time of 4:26.48. Stoffel was joined by redshirt freshman Lexa Barrott who finished fifth with a personal best time of 4:29.21.
The men's 10,000m featured redshirt sophomore Bryce Millar who brought home the silver when he ran a personal best time of 29:39.17. Millar now has the fifth fastest time in the Big Ten and the eighth fastest time in school history.
 
War Eagle Invitational:
 
Day one featured redshirt senior Andrew Miller and junior Nycia Ford in the hammer throw. Miller finished fourth overall with the mark of 60.17m (197' 5") and Ford finished sixth overall with the mark of 60.67m (192' 0").
 
Day two featured men's and women's shot put and men's and women's discus with a total of three Hoosiers competing. Junior Willie Morrison brought home the gold in the men's shot put with a season-best mark of 19.31m (63' 4.25"), which is the second best mark in the Big Ten and the 12th best mark in the nation. Junior David Schall finished seventh overall with the mark of 17.17m (57' 4"). Sophomore Khayla Dawson finished fourth overall in the shot put with the mark of 16.82m (55' 2.25").
 
The Hoosiers will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa. for the Penn Relays.

PENN RELAYS

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Indiana University track and field open the Penn Relays on Thursday. The highlight of the day was junior Maggie Allenwinning the 3,000m.
 
The Louisville, Ky. native brought home the gold after she ran an outdoor personal best time of 9:16.20, which is the second fastest time in school history. Colette Goudreau set the record of 8:59.74 at the 1987 NCAA Championships. Allen is the first Hoosier to ever win the 3,000m at the Penn Relays.
 
Junior Haley Harris, freshman Natalie Price, senior Kendell Wiles and redshirt junior Katherine Receveur ran the second fastest distance medley relay time in school history when the crossed the finish line in 11:13.98.
 
The women's 4x400m consisting of junior Riley Egbula, Kendell Wiles, junior Jeyland Valentin and Natalie Price qualified for the Championship of American Invitational when they finished sixth overall with the time of 3:41.84. The championship will take place on Saturday at 5:40 pm ET.
 
In the field sophomore Khayla Dawson started the Hoosiers off with a second place finish in the shot put championship. Dawson brought the silver home after she launched the shot put 16.88m (55' 4.5") on her third attempt of the afternoon.
 
Junior Nycia Ford took bronze in the hammer throw with the mark of 60.57m (198' 8"). In the long jump sophomore Leah Moran tied her personal record of 6.04m (19' 9.75") on her final jump of the night and brought home silver.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Three-time All-American Willie Morrison broke the shot put school record by a foot Friday afternoon on the second day of the Penn Relays.  The Leavenworth, Kan. native launched the shot put 19.98m (65' 6.5") on his third attempt of the day, which is a life time best and new school record. Morrison held the previous record of 19.69m (64' 7.25"), which he set at the 2017 NCAA East Prelims.

Mens and women's XC teams swept the Meet of Champions hosted by Iona College.   Kyle Mau finished 3rd overall for the men who finished in first place with 55 points.  On the women's side, Katherine Receveur crossed the finish line in 1st place overall leading the IU women's team to a first place finish.

BRADLEY PINK CLASSIC

The 2018 Bradley Pink Classic will take place on Friday, October, 12 2018 at Newman Golf Course. Registration for this meet can be found at www.directathletics.com.
 
This year’s event is open invite to all Division I, II and III teams. Teams wishing to compete at this meet should fill out the Intent to Compete Form by August 31, 2018. The list of competing teams will be updated regularly on our website:

This year’s Bradley Pink Classic will consist of two races per gender with an additional mixed-gender Open race. Teams may run up to NINE in the gender specific Red and White races. Entries are unlimited for the mixed-gender Open race. The women will run 6K, while the men will compete over 8K. The mixed-gender Open race shall see the women run 6K and the men 8K off one single start time.
 
The Women’s White Race (B Race) will take place at 1 p.m., followed by the Men’s White Race (B Race) at 1:45 p.m. The mixed-gender Open race will start at 2:30 p.m. The Women’s Red Race (A Race) will begin at 3:15 p.m. followed by the Men’s Red Race (A Race) at 4 p.m.

Hoosiers Ready to Compete in Illini Open on Friday Evening

 

  Bloomington, Ind.— Indiana Cross Country will conclude the regular season on Friday evening in Champaign-Urbana, Ill. by participating in the Illini Open. Competition is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. EST.
 
The meet will take place at the UI Arboretum located on the campus of the University of Illinois. The women's 5k race will kick off the open with a start time of 5:00 p.m. EST. Shortly after, will be the men's 8k race that is scheduled to begin at 5:40 p.m. EST.
 
This week, the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track &Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association) announced their weekly regional and national rankings. The women's squad cracked the top-10 for the first time in program history coming in at No. 10 in the national poll. After a 3rd place finish at Pre-Nationals, the Hoosiers jumped a spot in the Great Lakes Regional as they rank second.
 
On the men's side, Indiana ranks 22nd in the most recent national poll. The Hoosiers placed 8th at Pre-Nationals which helped propel them to No. 4 in the Great Lakes Regional rankings.

NCAA XC Championships held today in Madison, WI and for the first time since 2013 that both our men's and women's are participating.  The women finished 16th and the men 18th.  There were a total of 362 women and 374 men who competed today.

Indiana Track & Field Kicks Off Indoor Season by Hosting Hoosier Open

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— After a successful cross-country season, Indiana Track & Field looks to continue the success as they kick off the indoor season. The Hoosiers will host the Hoosier Open on Dec. 7 with events beginning at 3:45 p.m. inside of Gladstein Fieldhouse.
 
Ron Helmer enters his 12th season as the head coach of the men's and women's track & field teams. Indiana is coming off a strong season that saw both the men's and women's squads capture third place at Big Ten Championships.
 
Schedule of Events 
Friday's meet with feature 38 events, 13 track events and six field events.
 
The order of events for track—60-meter hurdle trials, 60-meter hurdle trials, the mile, 60-meter hurdle finals, 60-meter finals, 400-meter, 500-meter, 1,000-meter, 5,000-meter fast section, 200-meter, 300-meter, 4x400 meter relay.
 
Order of events for field—Throws, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, high jump.

2017 Hoosier Open
Last season at the Hoosier Open, many Hoosiers broke meet records including Katherine Receveur, (5K), Daniel Kuhn (500m), Willie Morrison (shot put), Jyles Etienne (high jump), and Kyle Mau (3,000m).
 
Last time: Indiana earns a pair of third place finishes at 2017-18 Big Ten Indoor Championships
Indiana is coming off a season that saw them place third at the 2017-18 Big Ten Indoor Championships. Returners, Kyle Mau (mile) and Katherine Receveur (5,000m) both took gold at the meet to become Big Ten Individual Champions. Kelsey Harris, Teddy Browning, Joe Murphy, and Ben Veatch all saw podium finishes throughout the meet.

Records Fall as Indiana Sweeps the Volunteers

 

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— Indiana Track & Field hosted Tennessee in their first meet back from winter break. The Hoosiers swept the Volunteers as the women won 67-55 and the men won 72-50.
 
It was a personal record setting day for Indiana as they saw three Hoosiers set new PR's throughout the day. Kelsey Harris was the first to set a record as she crossed first in the mile with a time of 4:48.99. On the men's side of the mile, Cooper Williams time of 4:04.55 not only set a personal record but it is also the best time in the NCAA so far this season.
 
In field events, Princess Brinkley notched a new personal record in the weight throw with a distance of 19.69m (64'07.25"). The redshirt sophomore placed second overall in the event. It was a record setting for Anna Watson in the pole vault, as she broke both a meet and personal record. The sophomore saw a height of 4:08m (13'4.5"). Khayla Dawson broke a 24-year-old meet record en route to taking first in the shot put with a throw of 16.53m (54'2.75").
 
On the men's side, Triple jumper Eric Bethea defended his NCAA-best mark as he took first with a distance of 15.86m (52'.5"). The junior still holds the NCAA best in the event so far this season.
 
Megan Grabowski was the first Hoosier to cross the finish line in the 200m as she ran a time of 25.47. Natalie Price had a strong showing in the 400m, marking the second fastest time in the NCAA (54.69). Grace Walther ran her first 3000m of the indoor season as she crossed the finish first in a time of 9:43.98.
 
Rikkoi Brathwaite picked up right where he left off as he led the field in the 60m dash in a time 6.77. Zubin Muncherji saw a first-place finish in the 400m with a time of 48.72.
 
The 4x400 meter relay squad consisting of Derek Grimmer, Cooper Williams, Adam Wallace, and Zubin Muncherji concluded the meet on a high note as they took gold in a time of 3:13.53.
 
In field events on the men's side, Adam Coulon had a season best in the pole vault as he notched a height of 5.30m (17'4.5"). In high jump, Jyles Etienne had a strong showing as he jumped to a height of 2.19m (7'1")
 
Next up, the Hoosiers will hit the road for the Kentucky Invitational on Jan. 11.

IUTF Returns Home to Host Gladstein Invite

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—Indiana Track & Field returns home to host the Gladstein Invite inside the Harry Gladstein Invite. The meet is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18. It will be two day meet that will resume on Saturday at 10:45 a.m.
 
The Hoosiers will welcome 12 teams in Bradley, Butler, Cornerstone, Hanover, Miami (OH), Murray State, Oakland, St. Norbert, Cincinnati, Dayton, Southern Indiana, and Western Michigan
 
Schedule of Events 
Friday will feature 14 events, three field events and 11 track events.
 
The order of events for track—3000m, 400m, 60m hurdles prelims, 60m prelims, 400m fast section, 3000m fast section, 60m hurdles finals, 60m finals, mile fast section, mile, 5000m.
 
Order of events for field—Throws, pole vault, triple jump.
 
Saturday will feature 11 events, three field events and eight tack events.
 
The order of events for track—200m, 600m, 800m fast section, 800m, 600m fast section, 200m fast section, 4x800 relay, and 4x400 relay.
 
Order of events for field—Long jump, high jump, and shot put.

Last Time Out
Indiana competed in their first road meet of the season last weekend at Kentucky. During the Jim Green Invitational, the Hoosiers saw two new national leaders while there were two new PR's set. Kelsey Harris (800m) and Cooper Williams (800m) all became national leaders in their respective events. Derek Grimmer set a PR in the 400m with a time of 1:49.09 while Adam Coulon saw a PR in pole vault with a height of 5.52m (18' 1.25").
 
Keeping Up with the Hoosiers
The national rankings saw a shake up with competition ramping up the past weekend. Cooper Williams and Kelsey Harris remained national leaders in the 800m. Harris recorded a time of 2:06.93 while Williams notched a time of 1:49.09 at the Jim Green Invitational.
 
Brathwaite and Zubin Muncherji have seen success in their college careers, but also have had success in their home countries. Brathwaite is a native of the British Virgin Islands and now holds the country's record in the 60-meter with a time of 6.68.  Muncherji calls Singapore home and holds four records in various events including the 200m (22.60), 400m (47.82), 500m (1;04.38), and 600m (1:21.99). 
 
In the Rankings 
USTFCCCA Released their preseason indoor ratings index on Thursday Jan. 10. The men's team is ranked 11th to start the 2019 Indoor season. here are four Big Ten teams in the Top-25 as the Hoosiers are the highest ranked B1G team. Penn State comes in at No. 14 followed by Wisconsin (16), Illinois (20), and Ohio State (25).
 
Big Ten Athlete of the Week
Junior Kyle Mau was named Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week on Wednesday Jan. 16 for his efforts at the Jim Green Invitational. The Junior ran the mile in a time of 4:01.63. This is the third week in a row that the Hoosiers have landed someone on the awards list.

 Indiana Track & Field completed day one of the Big Ten Championships on Saturday in spectacular fashion as Ben Veatch and Jenna Jungles grabbed individual Big Ten titles. Overall, the women's team holds the top spot with 36 points and the men's team sits in second place with 27 points to end day one.  
 
Holding steady pace throughout the men's 3000m, Ben Veatch picked up the stride in the final lap to take control of the top spot and earned his first Big Ten Championship with a time of 8:26.3. Kyle Mau picked up second place with a time of 8:26.76. In the women's field, Maggie Allen and Katherine Receveur went 2-3. Allen clocked a time of 9:23.44 while Receveur followed in a time of 9:25.38.
 
It was a lifetime best for Jenna Jungle as she took home a Big Ten Championship of her own after jumping a distance of 6.12m (20' 1"). Eric Bethea picked up a point on the men's side after jumping a distance of 7.08m (23' 2.75").  
 
In the men's high jump, Jyles Etienne earned Bronze after breaking a U-M Indoor Track Building record with a height of 2.16m (7' 1").
 
Nycia Ford and Princess Brinkley combined for five points towards the women's team score. Ford placed sixth with a distance of 20.71m (67' 11") while Brinkley three a distance of 19.95m (65' .5") to take seventh. Nick Lane picked up a podium finish in the men's weigh throw after nabbing a distance 19.80m (64' 11.5").
 
Hope Purcell competed in her first Big Ten Championships pentathlon where she scored 3,870 points to take fourth overall. The fourth-place finish earned the women's team five points.
 
Rikkoi Brathwaite qualified for the finals of the 60m after winning his heat in a time of 6.69, just .01 shy of his personal record in the event.
 
Zubin Muncherji had the fourth fastest time of the day in 600m, clocking a time of 1:18.60 to advance to the finals. The sophomore also tacked on a personal record. On the women's side, Natalie Price (1:31.18) and Mallory Mulzer (1:31.32) advanced to the finals after placing second and third, respectively.
 
Adam Wallace and Cooper Williams are headed to the final in the 800m. Wallace took the third qualifying second in a time of 1:50.57 while Williams qualified sixth after nabbing a time of 1:50.67. Kelsey Harris led the Hoosiers as she clocked a time of 2:08.77 to take the fifth qualifying spot in the women's 800m. Joely Pinkston qualified eighth with a time of 2:08.43.
 
Hannah Stoffel (4:45.81) and Claire Hamilton (4:46.77) grabbed new PR's on their way to the finals of the women's mile while Haley Harris also nabbed a spot in the finals with a time of 4:48.86. On the men's side, Kyle Mau grabbed the top qualifying spot with a time of 4:02.88 while Joe Murphy notched the seventh spot in a time of 4:05.51.
 
The distance medley relays capped off night one of Big Ten Championships as the women's squad took sixth in a time of 11:28.89. On the men's side, they were seeded second going into the meet but due to a fall in the leadoff leg, they were unable to make up lost ground.
 
Indiana will return tomorrow at 11 a.m as Eric Beathea will compete in the men's long jump. The first event on the track will be the finals of the 60m hurdles beginning at 1:15 p.m..
