For the first time in five seasons, the Big Ten Indoor Championships trophy is headed back to Bloomington. The Indiana University men's track and field team won the 2017 Indoor Big Ten Championships with a score of 112, taking down second place Penn State, who finished with 84 points.

The women's team finished with 69 points, good for fifth place.  This is the Hoosiers first top five finish in the indoor conference meet since 2011, which was also a fifth place finish.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – For the first time since the 2014 season, the Hoosiers earned All-America honors in the men's distance medley relay (DMR). Daniel Kuhn also earned a spot in the finals of the 800m run.

The men's DMR team consisting of Joe Murphy, Markevious Roach, Daniel Kuhn and Kyle Mau finished in fifth to take home All-America accolades.  Murphy started the race, running the 1,200m leg in 2:58.08.  He handed to Roach in fourth place.  Roach was responsible for the 400m leg, he blazed around the track twice with a time of 46.66, the second quickest split in the field.  Kuhn was next to carry, completing his 800m leg in 1:47.76, the fastest split in the race.  Mau split his final carry in 4:01.67 to secure fifth place.  The DMR team becomes the sixth Indiana team to finish inside the top eight since the 2009 season.

Earlier in the evening, Kuhn advanced to the finals of the men's 800m run.  The junior ran sixth for most of the race but used a massive kick in the final 40 meters to claim the third and final automatic qualifying bid.  His time of 1:47.92 ranks him as the third seed heading into tomorrow's (today) 6:30 p.m. EST final.

Kyle Mau breaks the 4:00 mile barrier at this past weekend's Indiana University Relays.

The Hoosiers had a strong performance on day two of the Indiana University Relays, winning a total of eight events. Redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau earned the No. 1 ranking in the NCAA in the men's mile .  The Hudson, Ohio native Kyle Mau had an outstanding performance in the men's mile crossing the finish line in just 3:59.15, which is the sixth fastest time in the Hoosier history books.

WOW.

That's impressive.  This was done on an indoor track, which is typically harder to get fast times because the 200m track results in tighter turns.  Also sometimes the raised track makes it bouncy, and so again not as fast.  Finally, to run a time like that this early in the season is insane.

Thanks for the update, Old Fart!  I was a miler myself.  Enjoy seeing stuff like this.

The Indiana University track and field teams will head to Ann Arbor, Mich. this week to compete in the Power 5 Invitational Friday, February 2 and Saturday, February 3. The men's team is currently ranked No. 23 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national team rankings.
 
There will be a total of ten teams over five conferences competing this weekend. Some of those teams include Big Ten powers Michigan (No. 17 women) and Minnesota (No. 11 women) and ACC foes Duke, Miami, Virginia (No. 24 men), Louisville and NC State. Other notable teams will be Pac-12 No. 17(men) Stanford and on the women's No. 19 Baylor out of the Big 12.

Memorial senior Matthew Schadler was named the 2017-18 Indiana Boys Cross Country of the Year by the Gatorade Company Monday morning.

The award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. Schadler is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.

This past season, the senior finished eighth at the Foot Locker Midwest Regional championships and took 26th at the national Foot Locker Cross Country Championships despite a separated shoulder. Schadler was sectional and regional individual champion for the Tigers and turned in a fourth-place finish at state in a time of 15 minutes and 29 seconds.

Schadler, who maintains a 3.60 GPA, has signed with Indiana University.

Hoosiers Track & Field Ready for Big Ten Indoor Championships

  BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University track and field teams will travel to Geneva, Ohio to compete in the 2018 Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, February 23 and Saturday, February 24. The meet will be held at the SPIRE Institute for the sixth consecutive season.
 
The men's team is coming into the weekend as defending Big Ten Indoor Champions and they are currently ranked No. 15 in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).  Other Big Ten ranked men's teams include: Penn State (No. 14), Ohio State (No. 19) and Michigan (No. 22).
 
On the women's side Minnesota is traveling to Geneva as the highest ranked Big Ten school coming in at No. 10 in the USTFCCCA rankings. Other ranked Big Ten women's teams include: Purdue (No. 16), Wisconsin (No. 22) and Michigan (No. 23).
 
Day one of the Championships will begin at 10:00 am EST with the men's heptathlon 60m. The first event for the Hoosiers will be the women's pentathlon 60m hurdles where Jenna Jungels will start her day.
 
The first track event of day one for the Hoosiers will be the women's mile run preliminaries at 12:40 pm EST. Senior Brenna Calder will defend her second place finish (4:42.33) from the 2017 Big Ten Indoor Championships. Calder ran her season best time of 4:41.53 at the Iowa State Classic, her career best is 4:38.88. Junior Haley Harris and redshirt freshman Hannah Stoffel will also compete. Harris ran her season best at Kentucky (4:48.48) and Stoffel nabbed her season best time of 4:52.05 at the Indiana University Relays.
 
The men's mile run prelims will take place directly after the women's race. Redshirt junior Joe Murphy took second place last year with the time of 4:02.70 and redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau finished third with the time of 4:03.39. Redshirt freshman Teddy Browning will also run in the men's mile prelims. Mau clocked a sub four-minute mile at the Indiana University Relays with the final time of 3:59.15.  Murphy ran his career best time at the Iowa State Classic with the time of 4:01.64 and Browning nabbed his career best time at the Power 5 Invitational (4:07.05).
 
In the men's 400m dash prelims freshman Zubin Muncherji and freshman Isaiah Ware will compete in their first Big Ten Indoor Championships. On the women's side freshman Natalie Price will also be competing in her first Championships. Price ran her career best time at the Kentucky Invitational finishing with the time of 54.43. Junior Riley Egbula and junior Jeyland Valentin will also run in the 400m dash prelims.
Sophomore Megan Grabowski will be the only Hoosier competing in the 60m prelims. Grabowski clocked her season best time of 7.54 at the Gladstein Invitational. Her career best time is 7.51 from the Indiana University Relays last season. Grabowski will also run in the 200m prelims at 5:00 pm EST.
 
The women's 800m prelims will start approximately at 2:50 pm EST. Junior Kelsey Harris, sophomore Mallory Mulzer and sophomore Joely Pinkston will all compete. Harris clocked her career best time of 2:06.08 at the Indiana University Relays. Mulzer's career best time is 2:09.62 from her performance at the Power 5 Invitational and Pinkston marked her career best time at the Hoosier Hills (2:09.62).
 
On the men's side redshirt senior Jordan Huntoon will be the only athlete running the men's 800m prelims. Huntoon ran his career best time of 1:49.17 at the Big Ten Indoor Championships last year. His season best time is 1:51.10, which he ran at the Kentucky Invitational.
 
The women's 60m hurdle prelims will start at 3:30 pm EST. Freshman Zykeria Williams will compete in her first Big Ten Indoor Championships. Williams ran her season best time of 8.51 at the Hoosier Open.
 
On the men's side sophomore William Session will run in the men's 60m hurdle prelims. Session finished seventh overall last year with the time of 8:04. He is coming into the weekend with his career best time of 7.87, which he ran at the Power 5 Invitational.
 
Senior Kendell Wiles finished third in the women's 600m at the Championships last year with the time of 1:28.81, which is her career best time. Wiles ran her season best time at the Indiana University Relays with the time of 1:29.82.
 
Senior Daniel Kuhn returns to defend his back-to-back 600m first place finishes and aims to claim his third title. Last year, Kuhn won with the time of 1:15.23, which is his career best time. Kuhn ran his season best time of 1:16.62 at the Indiana University Relays.
 
Redshirt junior Katherine Receveur, junior Maggie Allen and redshirt freshman Lexa Barrott will compete in the 3000m seeded section. Receveur finished second overall at the Big Ten Indoor Championships last year with the time of 9:07.04. Receveur ran her season best time of 9:07.99 at the Iowa State Classic.
 
Redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau and redshirt freshman Ben Veatch will run in the men's 3000m seeded section starting at 5:50 pm EST. Mau comes to Geneva with the eighth fastest time (7:50.85) in the NCAA from his performance at the Iowa State Classic. Veatch also ran his career best time of 7:58.10 at the Iowa State Classic.
 
The distance medley relay (DMR) races will be the final events of day one with the women's relay starting at 6:30 pm EST and the men's relay starting at 6:50 pm EST. The women's team will consist of Haley Harris, Natalie Price, Kelsey Harris and Brenna Calder. The men's team will consist of Teddy Browning, Zubin Muncherji, Daniel Kuhn and Joe Murphy.
 
The first field event of day one for the Hoosiers will be the women's pole vault at 11:30 am EST. Senior Rachel Mathervaulted her career best of 4.05m (13'3.5") last year at the Big Ten Indoor Championships. Mather earned her season best mark of 3.87m (12'8.25") at the Gladstein Invitational.
 
The men's pole vault will be the second field event for the Hoosiers and is set to start at 3:30 pm EST. Sophomore Adam Coulon, redshirt freshman Brock Mammoser and sophomore Alex Shinnerl will all compete in their first Big Ten Indoor Championships.
 
Sophomore Khayla Dawson and freshman Maddie Pollard will compete in the women's shot put. Dawson finished seventh last year with the mark of 15.58m (51'1.5"). She marked her career best of 16.64m (54'7.25") at the Gladstein Invitational. Pollard threw her career best of 15.50m (50'10.25") at the Hoosier Hills.
 
On the men's side junior David Schall will be the only Hoosier to compete in the shot put. Schall earned his career best mark of 18.70m (61'4.25") at the Tennessee Duals.
 
In the women's long jump sophomore Jenna Jungels, junior Aaliyah Armstead and sophomore Leah Moran will all compete. Jungels (6.03m / 19'9.5") and Moran (5.75m / 18'10.5") jumped their season best at the Hoosier Open. Armstead's career best is 6.00m (19'8.25"), which she earned at the Hoosier Hills.
 
Junior Treyton Harris returns to Geneva to defend his first place finish in the men's long jump. Harris won last year with the final mark of 7.71m (25'3.5"). He marked his career best of 7.86m (25'9.5") at the Hoosier Hills, which earned him the No. 9 spot in the NCAA.
 
Day two of the Championships will begin at 10:00 am EST with the men's heptathlon 60m hurdles. For the Hoosiers day two will consist of six field events for the Hoosiers and finals for track events.
 
Junior Taylor Pennington will start the Hoosiers off in the women's high jump at 11:00 am EST. Pennington earned her season best mark of 1.68m (5'6") at the Hoosier Open.
 
On the men's side freshman Jyles Etienne comes to Geneva with the 11th best mark in the NCAA of 2.21m (7'3") from his performance at the Hoosier Open. Junior Treyton Harris returns to the Big Ten Indoor Championships to defend his second place finish from last year. Harris claimed second with a career best mark of 2.17m (7'1.5"). Senior Paul Galas took third last year with a career best mark of 2.17m (7'1.5"). Harris and Galas share a season best mark of 2.10m (6'10.75").
 
Junior Eric Bethea returns to Geneva to defend his first place finish in the men's triple jump. Bethea won with the final mark of 15.95m (52'4"). He earned his season best mark of 15.50m (50'10.25") at the Kentucky Invitational and his career best mark is 16.34m (53'7.5").
 
On the women's side sophomore Leah Moran will compete in the triple jump. Moran earned her career best mark of 12.39m (40'7.75") at the Hoosier Hills.
 
Junior Nycia Ford, redshirt freshman Princess Brinkley and freshman Maddie Pollard will all compete in the women's weight throw. Ford (19.29m / 63'3.5") and Brinkley (19.04 / 62'5.75") marked their season best at the Hoosier Open. Pollard earned her season best at the Indiana University Relays with the mark of 18.87m (61'11").
 
On the men's side senior Andrew Miller has the ninth best mark in the NCAA from his performance at Notre Dame last weekend. Miller set a new school record when he won the men's weight throw with the mark of 22.10m (72'6.25"). Last year, Miller finished fourth overall at the Championships.
 
Admission to the event is $20.00 for adults (18-65), $8 for child/student (7-18), $8.00 for seniors (65+) and $8.00 for Big Ten student with proper identification. Parking at the event is $5.00.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University track and field will travel south to College Station, Texas for the 2018 NCAA Men's and Women's Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Texas A&M at Rhonda and Frosty Gilliam Jr. Indoor Track Stadium.
 
Junior Treyton Harris will be the first Hoosier to compete on Friday, March 9 at 6:30 pm EST in the men's long jump. Harris comes in with the 12th best mark of 7.86m (25'9.5"), which he jumped at Hoosier Hills. There will be one single flight with the top 9 advancing to a reverse-order final.
 
Senior Daniel Kuhn will run in the men's 800m semifinals on Friday at 8:15 pm EST. There will be two heats and the top three finishers, and the next two fastest times will advance to the finals on Saturday at 6:30 pm EST. Kuhn has the 14thfastest time of 1:47.89, which he ran at the Iowa State Classic. Last year, Kuhn finished seventh but ended up moving into sixth place after a protest disqualified one of the other runners.
 
The men's distance medley relay (DMR) team will be finalized Friday before the race begins at 9:45 pm EST.
 
The women's DMR team enters the Championships with a time of 11:00.77, the eighth fastest time. Senior Brenna Calderwill be responsible for getting the Hoosiers started in the 1200m leg. She will pass the baton to freshman Natalie Price for the 400m carry. Junior Kelsey Harris will be the third runner for the Hoosiers, completing the 800m leg. Redshirt junior Katherine Receveur will close out the race in the 1600m leg.
 
Day two of the Championships will feature two Hoosiers, redshirt senior Andrew Miller and redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau.
 
Miller set the school record at the Alex Wilson Invitational with the mark of 22.10m (72'6.25"), which landed him the tenth best mark in the NCAA. The men's weight throw is set to start at 3:00 pm EST. There will be one single fight with the top 9 advancing to a reverse-order final.
 
Mau travels to College Station with the 3000m time of 7:50.85, which is the eighth fastest time in the NCAA. The men's 3000m run is scheduled to start at 7:10 pm EST.

The Hoosiers bring home three All-American honors on the final day of the NCAA Indoor Championships.
 
Senior Daniel Kuhn is now a three-time indoor First-Team All-American after this fourth place finish in the men's 800m finals Saturday evening. Kuhn ran a season best time of 1:47.37, which earned him the highest finish in the 800m for the Hoosiers at the NCAA Indoor Championships since Keith Allen took third place in 1988.
 
Redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau earned Second-Team All-American honors with his 14th place finish in the men's 3000m. Mau is the first Hoosier to run in the 3000m since Andy Bayer (6th place finish) and Zach Mayhew (8th place finish) in 2013.
 
In his NCAA Indoor Championships debut redshirt senior Andrew Miller finished 14th in the men's weight throw.  The Hoosier record holder ended his senior indoor season with the mark of 20.51m (67'3.5"). He finish earned his Second-Team All-American honors.

Hoosiers Head South to Compete in The Pepsi Florida Relays

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University track and field will travel south to Gainesville, Fla. to compete in the three-day Pepsi Florida Relays. The Hoosiers will be represented by 30 athletes at Percy Beard Track.
 
There are a total of 100 teams traveling to the University of Florida including fourteen ranked teams, split evenly between the men and the women. Among the ranked teams there are four Big Ten foes: Nebraska (No. 9) and Penn State (No. 16) on the men's side and Purdue (No. 13) and Nebraska (No. 16) on the women's side.
 
Megan Grabowski will open the meet for the Hoosiers in the 200m on Thursday, March 29 at 2:00 pm ET. Jeyland Valentinwill compete at 3:45 pm ET in the 400m hurdles.
 
Day two of competition, Friday, March 30, will begin at at 12:15 pm ET with Zykeria Williams and Jenna Jungels running the 100m hurdles. On the track Daniel Kuhn will make his 800m season debut joined by Teddy Browning and Jordan Huntoon. On the women's side, Kendell Wiles and Joely Pinkston will be making their 800m season debuts.
 
There will be 4x400m preliminaries on Friday at 4:55 pm (women) and 5:35 pm (men). The final track event of the day for the Hoosiers will be the women's 3,000m steeplechase. Haley Harris, Lexa Barrott and Hannah Stoffel are scheduled to start the race at 9:20 pm ET.
 
In the field, day two will feature the jumpers with Paul Galas will start the Hoosiers off in the men's high jump invite section at 1:00 pm ET. Treyton Harris will make his season debut in the men's long jump invite section at 3:00 pm ET. On the women's side Aaliyah Armstead, Jenna Jungels and Leah Moran will compete in the long jump at 5:00 pm ET.
 
Day three of competition, Saturday, March 31, will feature the relay teams and two field events. The Hoosiers will compete in the sprint medley relay (SMR) on the men's and women's side, the distance medley relay (DMR) women only, 4x100m women only, 4x200m women only and the 4x800 on the men's and women's side.
 
In the field Erica Bethea will compete in the triple jump at 4:00 pm ET. Jyles Etienne will participate in the men's high jump at 12:00 pm ET.  
 
The Pepsi Florida Relays will be streamed on the SEC Network +. The Friday events will be streaming here from 12:15-12:59 pm and 1:25-4:10 pm. The Saturday events will be streaming here from 2:40-3:29 pm, 4:15-5:59 pm and 6:40-7:35 pm.

Stanford Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. – The Hoosiers broke one school record, set two personal records and two personal outdoor records at the Stanford Invitational Friday night.
 
Junior Katherine Receveur broke her own 5,000m school record when she crossed the finish line in 15:43.26, setting an outdoor personal record. Receveur previously set the record at the 2017 Outdoor NCAA Championships with the time of 15:44.80. The Louisville, Ky. native now holds the school record in the 5,000m (outdoor), the 3,000m (indoor), the 5,000m (outdoor) and the 6,000m (cross country).
 
Junior Maggie Allen moved up one spot in the IU record books when she finished her 5,000m in 15:51.73, which is now the second fastest time in school history. Allen improved her outdoor time by about nine seconds to pass Michelle Dekkers (15:53.12) in the school rankings.
 
In the men's 5,000m freshman Ben Veatch finished tenth overall in the invitational section with a personal best time of 13:50.49. The Carmel, Ind. native now has the fifth fastest time in Hoosier history.
 
Sophomore Bryce Millar and sophomore Kyle Mau ran in the second section of the 5,000m. Millar finished 14th overall with the time of 14:04.26. Mau set a personal record of 14:07.47.

Hoosiers Set Thirteen Personal Records on Day Two of the Tennessee Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – After two days of the Tennessee Relays the Indiana University track and field team has set a total of thirteen personal records.
 
Thursday, day one of the Tennessee Relays featured the hammer throws. Redshirt senior Andrew Miller finished fourth overall with the mark of 62.00m (203' 5"). On the women's side junior Nycia Ford also took fourth with the mark of 59.07m (193' 9") and freshman Princess Brinkley made her outdoor season debut and finished with the mark of 48.95m (160' 7").
 
In the field Friday afternoon sophomore Khayla Dawson brought home the gold when she launched the shot put 16.94m (55' 7"), which is a new personal record. Dawson now has the eighth best mark in the nation and the fourth best mark in school history. Junior Aaliyah Armstead earned the eighth best mark in school history and tied for the 18th best mark in the nation when she jumped a new personal record of 6.21m (20' 4.5") in the women's long jump.
 
Junior Jeyland Valentin started the Hoosiers off on the track Friday afternoon by winning the third heat of the 400m hurdles with the time of 1:00.80, which earned her a bronze. On the men's side sophomore William Session set a personal record when he finished fifth overall with the time of 52.29. Session went on to bring home the gold in the 110m hurdles when he ran a personal best time of 13.75, which ties him for the tenth best mark in the nation. Freshman Zykeria Williams also ran a personal record in the 100m hurdles when she finished 13.55, earning a ninth place finish.
 
In the sprints junior Treyton Harris ran the fastest 200m of the day for the Hoosiers and set a personal record when he finished ninth overall with the time of 21.18. Freshman Isaiah Ware (22.14) and freshman Zubin Muncherji (22.47) also set personal records in the 200m. On the women's side freshman Natalie Price ran the eighth fastest time in school history and ran a personal best time of 23.70. Sophomore Megan Grabowski was the second Hoosier to cross the finish line in 24.27, just short of her personal best.
 
Senior Daniel Kuhn brought home silver and ran a season best time of 1:48.20 in the men's 800m, which is the 11th fastest time in the nation. Sophomore Cooper Williams earned the No. 12 spot in the nation when he ran a personal best time of 1:48.20 to earn bronze. Redshirt junior Joe Murphy (1:52.23) and redshirt freshman Teddy Browning (1:54.84) closed out the race for the Hoosiers.
 
Redshirt junior Katherine Receveur ran a personal best time, ran the second fastest time in school history, earned the No. 6 spot in the nation, and brought home silver in the 1,500m when she crossed the finish line in 4:16.19. The current school record is 4:14.33, which was set in 1987 by Colette Goudreau. On the men's side redshirt freshman finished finished second overall with the time of 3:45.80.
 
The final track event of the night feature redshirt freshman Lexa Barrott and former Big Ten Champion and IU alumni (2011) Sarah Pease in the 5,000m. Pease earned the gold with the time of 16:42.87. Barrott was the second collegiate athlete to finish and third overall with the time of 17:07.36.
 
The third and final day of the Tennessee Relays will feature all relays on the track and eight Hoosiers in the field. The field events will begin at 11:00 am ET with the women's discus featuring Khayla Dawson. The track events are scheduled to start at 12:00 pm ET with the women's 4x200m relays.
