What Are You Looking for from the Offense?

Recommended Posts

Less than 50 hours to game time for the SIU opener.

What are you hoping to see from the offense that might signal the kind of improvement we expect this season?

Knowing that we should be able to handle an FBS opponent, beside winning handily, what would you consider offensive success?

Points

Running Yardage

Passing completion percent

Keeping Nate clean

See production from the receivers

For me, there are two indicators I am looking for:

    1. We have to keep Nate from getting hit (and our protection should be able to do that)

    2. We need to see production from our received from the start.

I expect the outcome to be a lapper. Anything less in my eyes is a failure (as far as this specific game goes).

Sure there will be some TOs and missed opportunities but it shouldn't be close.

Regarding carries, I'd like to see a healthy split between Howard and Redding. I think Howard is our guy but Redding is too good to not have the ball. Plus the fewer carries means fewer hits which in turns means more stamina to end the year on.

Pound the rock early to set the tone, then let Nate and the young receivers build some confidence. Interested to see how our D-Line performs with some new faces and schemes. We need lots of pressure this year to protect our young secondary. Let's hope it happens

CKW is of the pass-first-to-set-up-the-run coaching mindset. Will be interesting to see which way he goes.

Have to clearly demonstrate that even without Coleman, we have a strong running game so teams can't load the defense against Sudfield's passing.  Defensive unit in general has to clearly demonstrate that it can do its job and keep points off the board.  Secondary has to demonstrate effectiveness in controlling SIU's passing game.

I'm just not sure how anyone would be able to accurately gauge the positives, and how those might give insight in to the rest of the season, by looking at a win against SIU?

I know if IU has any chance whatsoever of making a bowl game, they have to win on Saturday. Sorry that I don't sound more positive, but I'm beginning to think Wilson's ship at IU has sailed.

Perhaps this is the year where things come together on both sides of the ball and we can eek out 7 wins? Just don't know.

Everyone has highlighted the keys to watch for the offense perfectly. Having a returning starter will pay huge dividends, and the success of this team lands on the defense. We are starting to load up some playmakers, and hopefully the front seven can provide a nice safety net for them. Excited for Saturday. Let's go bowling this year, Hoosiers.

Defense baby. I wanna see some GD Defense!

I thought this was the football thread not B-Ball! (I kid) I think if they can keep Nate upright and healthy a bowl game will happen
