Who would it be?

Recommended Posts

I read many posts on the basketball side with posters wish list for a new coach, the consensus seems to be Stevens.

While I'm not advocating that Wilson needs to go, quite the opposite actually. But hypothetically should Wilson prove not to be the answer, who is your dream hire?

Go!

On the basketball side the "right" hire would put us on top very quickly. With football I honestly don't think it matters. Not sure Saban could get it done at IU. I was shocked when we landed a guy the caliber of Wilson. He will be successful when he moves on. Go get the latest greatest in the MAC again I guess. I'm like many around the state IU basketball, ND football (they havent been great recently either).

Dream hire you say? I wonder how Nick Saban would feel about Bloomington. Lol

Honestly I've been singing the praises of Jeremy Pruitt for a while now. I think when he's ready he'll be a great head coach.

Alford Bailey stated he "was shocked we landed a guy the caliber of Wilson" and I'm in agreement.  We are hardly a dream job and I don't consider us a long term destination job either.  At best we are a stepping stone on someone's career path to higher profile programs.  It's fine to voice your desire for a particular individual to be the next head football (or basketball) coach but it just seems to be relatively pointless because barring a total collapse Wilson will be back again in 2016 and in as many future years as he may wish to stay because university administration seemingly doesn't have the "fire in the belly" to be among the elites when it comes to football (and many believe basketball as well).   My two cents worth.

So, we hired a high caliber coach, but the admin doesn't want to win? Quality logic there.

I think Wilson is the right guy.Our recruiting is slowly improving. An improved year this year will continue this slow improvement. IIf we make a change, I am not convinced we would get someone better to come in and do any better.  He has learned the stateand how to lead the program.  I am not ready to start over.

Hey...Saban likes the Crimson so....lol, he would just have to get used to not hearing Roll Tide and the Rammer Jammer chant. Haha

10. Butch Davis will be named someone's coach

Davis, who hasn't coached since he was fired by North Carolina in July 2011, might be the most qualified unemployed coach in America. He went 51-20 in six seasons at Miami from 1995 to 2000 (the Hurricanes won a national title under Larry Coker the year after he left), and he was about to have UNC rolling before he was fired as part of the school's investigation into academic misconduct. An NCAA investigation revealed that UNC's cheating was going on long before Davis arrived in Chapel Hill, and he was never mentioned in the university's response to the NCAA inquiry.

If Al Golden can't turn around the Hurricanes this season, Davis might be the coach who can do it. Golden, who is 28-22 in four seasons at Miami, might have the hottest seat in the country heading into the season. The Hurricanes have won more than seven games only once in his four seasons and they're 16-16 against ACC foes.

Thoughts as IU's coach?

Note: not trying to stir anything up. I hope CKW stays for a long time and has this team in bowls annually. However, I read the article and thought it was an interesting discussion point.

Wilson is on the hot seat now, but barring any injuries, we should finish 8-4, 7-5 at worsen because as usual, we will lose some games we should win, and we could outplay some top teams. Over the past few years, we have played OSU pretty tough.
