Pledges prompt public release of document after privacy rights review
 

 

(Chapel Hill, N.C.—May 22, 2015) – The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill today announced the campus had received a notice of allegations from the NCAA as the next phase in its investigation of academic irregularities and possible bylaw infractions.

 

In a joint statement, Chancellor Carol L. Folt and Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham said the University had begun reviewing the NCAA’s notice.

 

“We take these allegations very seriously, and we will carefully evaluate them to respond within the NCAA’s 90-day deadline,” the statement said. “The University will publicly release the NCAA’s notice as soon as possible. The notice is lengthy and must be prepared for public dissemination to ensure we protect privacy rights as required by federal and state law. When that review for redactions is complete, the University will post the notice on the Carolina Commitment website and notify the news media. When we respond to the NCAA’s allegations, we will follow this same release process.

 

“Consistent with NCAA protocols, the University cannot comment on details of the investigation until it is completed.”

It is about time!  How long has this investigation been going on?  I thought the NCAA had swept it under the rug and forgot about it.

It is about time! How long has this investigation been going on? I thought the NCAA had swept it under the rug and forgot about it.

Hopefully the delay was indicative of the breadth and depth of the investigation.

It is about time!  How long has this investigation been going on?  I thought the NCAA had swept it under the rug and forgot about it.

The NCAA and UNC swept the first  investigation under the rug. The NCAA had no choice but to go back and perform another investigation after the media got hold of damaging information making them look like the incompetents they are, and just as corrupt as many of the outlaw college programs they are charged in investigating.

I'd just like to see the NCAA move a little faster than it historically has with its investigations.  At the NCAA's typical pace, MSB will be on Social Security and playing on the Old Folk's Home All-Star team before any decision is announced.

18 years of academic fraud and it started under Dean Smith's watch. I would like to see those 2005 and 2009 banners come down, but I won't hold my breath.

Doubt they would ever go that far.  I haven't followed this closely enough. I thought this started under Poor Roy when he brought the academic guy with him to UNC from Kansas.

Give them a 4 year ban to all post season tournaments. Reduce their scholarships by 5 over the next 4 years and call it a day.

If they do vacate their titles, then I will laugh at the poor luck of the Illini. Just like when USC was stripped of theirs, a new champion wasn't named.

Kick multiple cheat Roy Williams out of the NCAA's.  Remove the tainted titles.  Remove scholarships.  Impose postseason bans.  Death penalty.
