I read it as he hoped the post he quoted was right because his son transferred (in is all that would make sense) and he thought it might be bad decision, but if the post is accurate, it would be good.

For the record, he said "changed schools". That doesn't have to mean he transferred. It could mean he chose to attend IU rather than what had been considered his probable choice (and parents prefedrence) during his recruitment.
