Next Season Distribution of Minutes

Recommended Posts

Here's My Take:

Four Guards for Two Spots (80 minutes)

Yogi:       30

Nick Z:    8

JB2:        24

Rob:        18

Six "Bigs" for Three Spots (120 Minutes):

TB:         25

Troy:       27

Colinn:    16

Hanner:   16

Emmitt:    14

Devin:     15

Other Three

Juwan:    4

OG:         3

MSB:       Saving Him For Extremely Special Occasions

What Say Y'all?

I think Devin and Nick Z's minutes should flip. Devin is coming back from an injury and Emmit will be hungrier than ever to get on the court now that we have a big man to help him. Plus Nick Z's offense was a life saver a few times last year.

I agree, Nick does deserve more minutes than 8. I like however how Thomas gets a ton of minutes than the rest of the forwards get around the same.

DD availability could have huge impact on playing time for Holt and Morgan especially. Hard to determine because DD is such a wild card in this.

I think we end up with a 10 man rotation by the middle of the B1G. What I hope is we get true separation 7-13 though so random guys aren't getting 2 minutes here and there.

If we have a walkon playing by January I will personally walk to Bloomington and kick Crean in the nuts. TB will probably get around 22 mpg. I see Hanner and Holt getting time at both the 4 and 5 and being pretty equal come next year. Zeisloft will get more minutes IMO than what you feel. I still seeing us quite a bit going 3 guards.

Call me crazy but I think OG and Morgan could push Holt and Hartman for minutes. Based mostly on upside and athleticism. Will be interesting to see how it pans out. We need Crean to find out who the best players are and which guys play best together. Going to be a tough year for him with the high expectations and tougher B1G.

1st off the OP has a flaw, we will play 3 guards, Yogi will play 30+ mins a night and JBJ will be close to that if he decides to try and play some D.  RoJo will prob be about 25 as NZ will be around 15.  We will run TW some at the 3 as he will need to prove he can play there to play at all at the next level.  I do not see many times at all where HP or Holt are on the floor with Bryant, and TB should get 25+ minutes a night.  I would actually be thrilled if we basically went with an 8 man rotation with Yogi, JBJ, RoJo, TW and Bryant as the starters with NZ, Hartman and HP off the bench.  With that I could see OG getting some minutes if he can defend like reports say and DD is the wild card based on health.  If fully healthy could see playing 9, but would like to see a set rotation for the top 8, but that is asking a LOT!

Holt and DDavis (if healthy) are too good to keep off the court.

I am with you 100% on this one. People really think they'll only get like 4 minutes, I'm shocked. And I don't think people understand that one more knock to Devin's head could end his career so he probably won't see much of the court if any. I could see these guys panning out to be better than Holt.. Keep in mind he barely even got recruited, while OG and Morgan were sought after by multiple programs.

We shall see, do not think for a minute they are better than TB or TW, and in all honesty Hartman was our glue guy last year and I think he did a lot of the dirty work and we really missed him when he was out.  If Bryant is out, HP will be the 5 on the floor, do not want to see either Davis or Holt have to man the 5 when we have better options.  Both could be nice playing with TB, but with our 3 guard lineup they would be taking minutes from either Troy or Hartman.

They are solid and will be very good 4 year players, but I really hop we settle on about a 8-9 person rotation, have always believed your best players need to play a lot of minutes, heck Wisc and Duke both played 7-8 kids (ND really played 6) and it did not seem to bother them much to play thier best kids a lot of minutes.  Yogi, Troy, JBJ will all get 30+ minutes and TB should play as much as he can (28-30).  Rojo gets 25-28 and you have 45 minutes or so for your bench, 15 for NZ, HP, and Hartman.  Look at others if needed for foul trouble, kids playing bad, or in blowouts.  Just my thoughts, but best players need to play the majority of the minutes

I'm not breaking mine out because I still think we'll see 4 guard lineups with TB at the 5 and we'll also see lineups with Colin at the 5 still.

200 minutes total:

Yogi: 30
JB2: 30
Troy: 30
TB: 25
Rob: 25
Hanner/ Colin: 25
Emmitt/ Devin: 20

Final 15 is game/ situation specific.

Would assume last season would end up being the redshirt season for DD since he did not play so that would probably not be an option, unless they think they can get a 6th year for him due to the accident

I wonder if there's a chance we see a redshirt? Because I'm with 41, I don't see us dipping that far into the bench.

That's tough. Just don't know who you would redshirt. Our bugs are deep this year, gotta pick one, but they all play. Devin makes the most sense if he isn't full go, but I doubt he'd agree to that.
