Dakich comments

I wish people would realize that apart from being an IU alum, DD is also an ESPN guy who just likes to say things just to get listeners. I enjoy hearing his comments on his show (his in game commentary, no so much).

Is this the same Dakich that was praising Crean as a good coach at one point during this season? DD is too wishy washy for my taste.

At one point everyone was but the wheels fell off. He was ultra critical of us when that happened. My thing with this whole situation is consistency. We have none from November to March every year. That is what has to change for me. This team sucked defensively but not the #1 team. They were just inconsistent. He does all of this practicing with no results when it matters the most.

Before the Iowa game, Dakich said he had spent some time watching IUs recent games on tape. At that point he mentioned some very specific things we did not do defensively. He then said that we need to change something on defense and strongly thought that with our small lineup and depth we should press. He ended by saying if Indiana did not press or play very aggressive D at a minimum then he would stop complaining about IU fans complaining about Crean

When he spent time watching the tape I think he began to see more what some of us had seen all year. He had not watched all our games and the effort and strategy during that losing stretch changed things for him. He still cannot bring himself to say Crean has to go but he is not holding back on what he thinks of the program

Well he isn't wrong.........If the people that run the program, the players, and us fans want to keep calling ourselves one of the blue bloods of the sport then this thing better get fixed in a hurry or we are all just sitting in denial refusing to accept that we are no longer that kind of program and won't reach those heights again.  2 trips to the Final Four in the last 25 is absurd for a program with a tradition like ours. Especially when the other blue bloods are not having this issue. Since 1990 Duke has been to 8, UNC has been to 9 (Yes I know they are in some shady crap, but forget about the scandals as I am talking on the court ability. Note I don't endorse what they have been doing), UK has been to 7 with a great chance of getting 8 this season, Kansas has been to 6, and Even UCLA has been to 4. And that is not even counting the amount of success the "New Bloods" are having with UCONN, Michigan State, and Louisville. I'm not one of those fans that has unrealistic expectations and feels like IU should be in the Final Four every season. I understand that it is not possible, but I do expect this program to be around these other elite programs that have at least have a chance to make a run every season. Sorry for my rant. Just tired of watching all these other programs continue to thrive while ours is stagnant.

We've put ourselves in this position. It's entirely self-inflicted due to bad coaching hires and possibly decision makers not giving a crap about returning the program to glory.

The program is still capable of being on that level, the resources that allowed RMK to have so much success are there. It will come down to if the powers that be want to wake the giant or let it sleep.

Oh I completely agree we put ourselves in this situation. I am not debating we haven't and that is why I included everyone in my opening. Just needed to rant lol

Ya, he tries not to be a homer, but lately it is pretty hard to find a lot of positives to talk about. I'm talking the last 3 years. If IU got it rolling then sure, Dan would sing the praises like he did when we were winning games in the early big ten season.

My guess is that he would love IU to be on top, but calls it the way it is. Unfortunately the way it has been lately has been pretty bad. That has chapped a few folks on his broadcast.

I really think it all starts with governance. The Trustees set the tone. Their lack of concern makes its way down the food chain. I have never heard McRobbie comment in any way about whats happening. I can't imagine this kind of casual attitude on the part of trustees and presidents at places like OSU, MSU, UW, PSU, and many other places.

First off I am a huge fan of Bob Knight and I really like Dan Dakich. Dakich is very similar to coach Knight except he is a very sub average BB coach. Knight should have left maybe 5 years earlier but that firing etc. has left a mark on the program. I don't see Knight ever coming back. Call me crazy but I like Steve Alford and think he is slowly becoming a good coach but I doubt he would ever coach at IU because of BK. Since BK's firing we had some really bad hires. Davis not ready for prime time and Sampson was a complete ***hat. Coach Crean has completed his job by getting the program off life support. Its been a mess since 2006 and we should consider looking at the Blue Blood coaching trees. If not give Crean next year but still reach out quietly to Brad Stevens.

Look at the coaches of the teams you mentioned. Coach K, Roy, Izzo, Cal, Pitino, etc. They all have elite coaches. If you don't want our program to be mediocre then we can't settle on a mediocre coach. It's year 7 Crean is what he is and we (should) all know it. Time to move on and make the right hire! Even if we land Thomas Bryant and make it to the E8, I would be saying the same because I know 2 years after that we'd probably be in the NIT. That has been Crean's track record over 16 years of coaching. He is what he is people! And that's not going to cut it at Indiana!

I am not disagreeing with you
