Is it possible?

Recommended Posts

Been kicking this around for a few days. Thought I would see what ya'll think. Is it possible that Tom Crean has been recruiting the wrong types of players. I mean, we all like to get the 4 and 5 star guys, but to date, CTC seems to have had much better success with the 2 to 3 star guys. Oladipo, Shehee, Wade and now it seems that Holt and Johnson are starting to shine. Although I think Johnson was a 4 star, if memory serves. I think it may be possible that the 4 and 5 star guys don't wanna listen to him. Whereas the lower tiered guys actually are willing to work to get better. Face it, we all know what most of the big name guys are about anyways. Its all NBA, and how much of this do I have to put up with before I am gone. Maybe I am way off base here, but time will tell.

Yeah, got to agree to go after the best possible.  In these days of 1 and done and transfer cause I miss my girlfriend its the only defense you have.  I'm ok with T.C.'s recruiting ability and I'm thinking that having the Lottery players has got to help.  Wish he was better with x's and o's but overall it's a clean program, kids graduate, and the program (imho) is improving overall.

I would agree a little. But look at the 4's that haven't worked out or were very average. Elston, Hollowell, Fisher, Robinson, HMP, Williams, IMHO is still up in the air, and Creek, due to injury. So he is off the table. That only leaves 4 of the 4 stars that had an impact. So maybe those other guys were just over rated coming out of H.S. You got 6 of the 3 stars that have contributed more than most people would think. That only leaves 4 of the 3 stars and 2 transfers. So it almost seems like Crean is able to communicate with the lower star players better. In the meantime HMP is starting to play better now too with minutes. So maybe it will all work out in the end....I sure hope so.

But you're evaluating them on totally different standards there. A 3-star just has to be not terrible to get your vote.

There is only one outstanding 3-star in my opinion, 1 good one, and then 3 (or 4 if I'm being generous) question marks.

There are 3 really really really good 4-stars, 1 good one, 1 decent one, 2 question marks (who both have higher ceilings than the 3-star question marks)

1 outstanding 5-star, 1 really good, 1 decent (and would have been really really really good with the correct pieces around him)

I'd rather make a team out of our 4 and 5s than our 3s even if I had to give up Vic to do it.

I have this gut feeling that UK's revolving One and Done mentality is going to come back to bite them in the A$$!

I just wish the NCAA would do something for once.....and put a stop to this mess. I don't like how it is affecting CBB

It is almost like Michigan back in the 90's when they had the fab five but they were not leaving early.

Yes I agree with you. I always want the best players possible. But what I was trying to say is that maybe Crean does a better job with players that he develops, rather than some that already have elite skill. I'll take all the 5 stars you can give me please, with a side of a couple 4's that need a little work. haha

I am not really that concerned with the "STAR WARS" !

Just recruit the best players for our system.

Usually the best players are going to be 4 and 5 star players---but there will sometimes be those who have not played AAU ball ---or who are from overseas---- or in rural areas--- that fly under the radar.

Crean seems good at identifying them early and then developing some of them----I trust his eye for talent more than the stars someone has next to their name.

Look at UK---they get almost exclusively high 4 and 5 star players and they have had their share of busts as well.
