I'm just gonna leave this right here

Someone posted a similar article from the Indy Star in another thread earlier today. I think its pure speculation. Hence this paragraph from the article;

"Stevens has never even discussed returning to college coaching, and NBA sources said he is totally invested in the Celtics. He wants to restore the organization to a contender and also has four more years on his contract. The organization made a sizable investment in his talents."

I just don't see him leaving that money anytime soon

I'll be the one to point out that it's like a 400k or 500k difference between him and Crean. Hardly insurmountable if parties wanted to.

Funny how a lot of posters here and beloved Dan the man says there's no way, yet the Boston Globe is writing about it. Does it mean it wont happen? 7-14 to start an 82 game season and a 3 loss streak can be enough to take a hard look at your real goals. Being away from family and friends isn't as hard on Brad as the Mrs and kids since he's on the road trying to motivate a whole different player than under recruited Hoosiers who want to play in Hinkle. If I'm Glass I've already sent my candy striped Christmas card and his agent would be on first name basis. When and if he would be ready bye Tom afterall its Indiana and the only other job that leads you home is to be a Boilermaker. When and if he's ready we better be, but a lot of specualting not just on BTB.

I don't get how some hack at the Boston Globe writing about it somehow legitimizes the non-story.

I read an article earlier than included the non-consecutive words "Brad", "Stevens", "Indiana", and "University." FIRE UP THE PRESSES

I think everyone ignores the fact that Stevens is happy in the NBA and has not said anything about going back to college ball. It's all a huge rumor. Just because the Boston Globe wrote about it doesn't mean a thing. They just mentioned that IU could be interested. Nothing more. If they had quotes from people or even if Stevens came out and said he would be interested, there would be something to talk about. THis is a non story

      The Boston Globe wrote an article back in 2013 when Brad was making his return to Indianapolis. I remember reading it and thinking that him being our coach in a few years is a very real possibility. He loved Indiana Basketball growing up and idolized RMK.

Stevens isn't going to come right out and say he'd be interested, it wouldn't be a smart move on his part.  His interest would have to be guaged through back channels.

I'm not saying he is, but he won't come right out and say so.

Well of course he isn't going to come out and say he's interested. And there hasn't even been the smallest whisper through back channels or anything. The thing is how can he be interested at all when there is nothing to be interested in. There is no open coaching position. Crean is the coach now and for the foreseeable future right now.

Its also important to remember that when he was brought in by the Celtics, they were bad, and have since continued getting rid of the talent on their roster. They upper management (along with many other NBA teams) has no plans to be very competitive in the upcoming few years, so that loosens the leash on Stevens and makes it a no pressure situation for him in the NBA

There doesn't have to be a currently open position to guage interest.  That's actually a way to avoid those stupid search committees.

Alright, I have to ask how you know that there has been no whispers through back channels? First, you would have to prove a negative for that to be true. Second, I have seen at least one source that says there was a back channel whisper. Not sure whether that was by anyone who made a difference, or whether it was a connected and overenthusiastic fan. The bolded part is what Stevens answer was reputed to be, more or less.
