Larry Brown on Tom Crean

Recommended Posts

Thought this was fairly interesting and gives a bit of insight into what many in the coaching community think of Coach Crean.

This, from Larry Brown:

"When I was in the NBA and he was at Marquette, I used to always go over there and watch their practices and watch him and learn," Brown said. "We just developed a relationship. He got me the Stanford job. I've just admired him. He works, he cares about the game and cares about people in the game. He shares ideas. He's a quality, quality person."

How does one quote from one person translate into what many think? Also, after just getting beat, how many losing coaches say the coach that just beat them isn't a very good coach? In all fairness his words are very complimentary and he thinks highly of Crean for the reasons you quoted. What I find very funny about Brown is he is quoted about worrying about Dean Smith's legacy and his alma mater all the while his only NCAA championship at Kansas was tainted and directly led to sanctions for the program. Is he not concerned about his own legacy. Crean does deserve credit for the win. Unfortunately, I was in tobacco road where the B1G channel isn't a priority and missed the game. If someone said Hanner would have 0 rebounds, I would think we would have no chance. Unfortunately, our future opponents won't let the 3 balls beat them. Mark it.

It doesn't... it doesn't mean all that much. Just wanted to pass it along after reading it. Although this is hardly the first person in basketball to express that about Crean. Don't disagree with what you said, but Larry Brown is still Larry Brown.

Why would they need to double team any of them? It's not like they're unguardable.

They don't need to double any of them. They just can't lose track of any of them. Probably shouldn't lose track of Colinn either. Or Max.

By they way, while these teams are making sure not to lose track of six good (Rojo, Colinn, Max) to excellent (JB, Yogi, Nick) three point shooters, they have to keep Yogi, Troy, Rob and Stan from driving to the rim. And sometimes that takes help defense; ie, a double team.

On second thought, maybe it will take two defenders to stop the ball now and then. JUST LIKE IT DID LAST NIGHT!

FWIW, this Hoosiers team could be defensively.. ahhh...challenged. But, we also, without question, present a difficult defensive conundrum for our opponents.

Stanford?  Larry Brown never coached at Stanford.  Where did that quote come from?

Way to not be up to date on your late 00s head coach controversies.

Larry Brown got the Stanford head coaching job in '08 and then backed out. Here's an article about it!

if I was told our center had 2 points and zero rebounds, and our team shot 36% from the arch and 34% from the floor, I'd tell you SMU shut down our strength and our weakness was exposed.

But wait, we still won. They let the 3 ball beat them, even though we only hit 36% of them. This team will shoot until they win. It has been pointed out, that a total of 6 individuals would all have to have an off night for us to be shut down from three.

Who they gonna double team? James, Rob, Yogi or Nick?

JB2 will get most of the attention moving forward as its obvious we are gonna rely heavily on him for points. I don't really see us getting double teamed, but there will be a lot of switches on the high ball screens. If Hanner can start contributing on some form of offensive post prescence on these switches, we could be really hard to stop.
