MSU threatens in the top of the 7th loading the bases with nobody out.  They get 1 run on a fielder's choice and still have runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out.   A ground out makes it a 6-3 game with 2 out and an MSU runner on 3rd but Goodin gets a game ending strikeout and the final score is 6-3.

Lambert and Galovich both with 3 hits on the day and 2 each from Lacefield.  Galovich, Lambert and Lacefield each with 2 rbi.    Goodin gave up 3 hits, had 6 K and 3 BB.

Today's second game scheduled to start at 2:00.

Game #2 underway; Tara Trainer on the mound.  We open the bottom of the 1st with 5 singles and 2 doubles and a Radcliffe run scoring from 2nd base on a wild pitch and we lead 5-0.

In the bottom of the 2nd, Jenkins singled, stole second and advanced to 3rd on a catcher error.  Baez singled her in and it's 6-0.

3rd Inning:  Westmoreland a solo home run to make it 7-0 and then we tack on 8 additional runs for a 15-0 lead.    We have 14 hits and Sparty helping with 3 errors.  Pitching depth apparently a problem for MSU as their starting pitcher was just pulled after Radcliffe's 3-run homer that made it 15-0.

4th Inning:  Neither team scores.

5th Inning:  Natalie Foor starts the inning in relief of Trainer who only allowed 3 hits; had 10 K; 3 BB.  She threw 83 pitches; 48 were strikes.  And to open the 5th inning Foor walks the bases full on 17 pitches.  Spartans are able to score 2 but the game is over.  Final score 15-2.  Trainer (19-5) gets the win.

Hoosiers end up with 15 hits - 2 homers, 1 triple, 2 doubles and a lot of singles.  Lambert goes 3-4; Baez 2-4; Lacefield 2-3; Westmoreland 3-3; Radcliffe 2-2.  Radcliffe with 4 rbi; Baez with 3.  We're now 28-10 on the season and 3-3 in B1G.

Michigan holds an 87-29 advantage in the series. Tara Trainer earned the win in that game as she tossed 7.1 frames and struck out six. Trainer made appearances in all three games against the Wolverines last season, tossing 20.1 frames. Emily Goodin also saw action as she made a pair of appearances in 4.2 innings. Along with Uden, Katie Lacefield saw her bat get hot against Michigan in 2018 as she batted .300. No score after 2 innings in today's game.  Tara Trainer on the mound for our Hoosiers.

Inning #3:  Michigan picks up 2 runs and leads 2-0.

Inning #4:  Hoosiers still without a hit.  We did get 2 runners on base via walks but left them stranded.  Michigan picks up another run and it's 3-0.

Inning #6:  Hoosiers can't get anything going and neither does Michigan.  Hoosiers trail 3-1.

Inning #7:  Westmoreland hits another solo shot to make it 3-2 but we're down to our last out.  Galovich gets on the painful way (HBP) but Davis strikes out and that's the ball game.  Trainer goes the distance and takes the loss.  She allowed 6 hits, had 1 strikeout and 2 walks.

Hoosiers fall to (28-12) (3-5) on the season.  We'll try to salvage one tomorrow; game time 1:00.

Trying to salvage at least 1 win this weekend and after three and a half innings Hoosiers on top 6-4.

Michigan scored 2 in the first off Emily Goodin and 2 more in the third off Trainer who relieved Goodin in the second inning.  In our half of the third Grayson Radcliffe hit a 2-run homer so we were trailing 4-2 after three innings.

Inning #4:  In our half of the fourth, we picked up 4 runs aided by a Michigan error and had a great opportunity to blow the game open with the bases loaded but couldn't capitalize.  Goodin re-takes the mound and sets the Wolverines down in order in the bottom of the inning.  IU leads 6-4.

Inning #5:  Neither team does anything and it remains a 6-4 IU lead.

Inning #6:  Hoosiers go down in order.  Michigan puts a runner on with 2 outs but an infield fly ends the inning.

Inning #7:  Baez leads it off with a single; Norton flies out but Galovich with a single and we have runners on first and second.  Lacefield pops up and Davis strikes out.  We've left 8 runners on base today.   Goodin gets out #1 on a fly out but then gives up a solo home run and it's a 6-5 game.  Next Michigan batter gets a double but Goodin gets out #2 on a fly out and then intentionally walks the next batter (2-3 on the day with a home run) to put runners on first and second with 2 outs.  A double to right center scores 2 Michigan runs and we go down 7-6.  UGH!

On the day we had 10 hits, no errors but left 8 on base.  Radcliffe goes 3-4 on the day with 3 rbi.  Jenkins 2-3 and Lacefield 2-4.  Goodin (6-4) takes the loss.  She pitched 5 innings, gave up 7 hits (5 for extra bases), 5 runs, 1K, 2 BB.

On the season Lady Hoosiers now (28-13) (3-6).

Next up is a Wednesday doubleheader in Bloomington with the PUkettes; first pitched scheduled for 5:00.  Next weekend Lady Hoosiers will host Maryland for a 3-game series.

Last season. the Hoosiers saw home runs from Maddie Westmoreland, Bella Norton and Taylor Lambert. as well as two longballs from then-senior Taylor Uden. The rivalry doubleheader will feature 18 total players from the state of Indiana - 10 from IU and eight from Purdue.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hoosiers dropped three games at No. 23 Michigan last weekend, including a 7-6 heartbreaker on Sunday as the Wolverines used a two-run double to walk it off.
