In his first at-bat since being named International League Hitter of the Week, Micah Johnson continued his torrid hitting with his seventh home run of the season to lead off the bottom of the first inning. The White Sox No. 4 prospect according to Baseball America batted an even .500 (10-20) with a triple, a home run, two RBIs, and seven runs scored last week, and he extended his hitting streak to six games with a 3-for-4 night on Monday. The second baseman has recorded 15 hits during his six-game hitting streak.

Short stay in AAA.

Micah Johnson on his way to San Francisco. Carl Crawford (back) expected to go on the DL.

Hope he can make the most of his call-up.

With the addition of free agent Kenley Jansen finally official on Tuesday, the Dodgers needed to make a corresponding move to clear one spot on the 40-man roster. That move was designating Micah Johnson for assignment.

Johnson played in just seven games for the Dodgers in 2016, in two separate stints in April and September, going 1-for-6 with a run scored. He played all of four innings at second base and one inning in left field in the majors last year.

Johnson, who turned 26 in December, hit .261/.321/.356 in 120 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City, with 23 doubles, five home runs and three triples, and stole 26 bases in 37 attempts.

The Dodgers acquired Johnson from the White Sox on Dec. 17, 2015 in a prospect-for-prospect swap as part of a three team trade, with Trayce Thompson and Frankie Montas also coming to Los Angeles. Thompson is the only one who remains on the 40-man roster.

The club now has seven days to figure out what’s next with Johnson (Under the old collective bargaining agreement, this period was 10 days). The Dodgers can try and trade him, or they can place him on waivers and, if he clears, can send him outright to the minor leagues.
