2014 IU Men's Soccer Schedule

Ten NCAA Tournament teams, the reigning NCAA Champion and runner up, as well as a rematch of the 2012 NCAA title game highlight the 2014 Indiana University men's soccer schedule.

 

"Our 2014 schedule will be one of the toughest schedules in the nation as we compete against some of the best teams in the country," said head coach Todd Yeagley. "Our scheduling philosophy is to play a very difficult non-conference schedule in addition to our challenging Big Ten Conference opponents.

 

"We have seven opponents on our schedule who finished in the top 15 RPI last and a total of 10 teams who competed in the NCAA Tournament. Our players love the challenge of playing tough and talented teams each time we take the field. We have 10 home matches and we look forward to having our Hoosier Army supporters out in full force at Bill Armstrong Stadium to help create the best soccer experience in the country. Our young team is hungry and excited for the challenges ahead as we look to make 2014 a special year for IU Soccer."

 

Indiana will play a pair of exhibition matches to prep for the season, starting with Xavier on Aug. 19 at 7:30 p.m. ET in Bloomington. The Hoosiers will make their annual trip to the National Soccer Festival in Fort Wayne, Ind., facing the Washington Huskies on Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. ET.

 

The regular season begins on Aug. 29 with the annual adidas/IU Credit Union Classic in Bloomington. In addition to the Hoosiers and regular participant Notre Dame, the tournament features Georgetown and Marquette. The rematch of the 2012 NCAA title game between IU and Georgetown will take place on Aug. 29, while the Hoosiers face Marquette on Aug. 31.

 

After a one-year hiatus IU returns to the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament in Notre Dame, Ind., facing Kentucky (Sept. 5) and Dartmouth (Sept. 7). Indiana is 23-1-3 all-time vs. the Wildcats, while this will be the second meeting with Dartmouth.

 

An eight-game Big Ten slate starts on Sept. 13 as the Penn State Nittany Lions come to town. A mid-week derby follows that with the Butler Bulldogs on Sept. 17 in Bloomington.

 

The Hoosiers' first Big Ten meeting with newcomer Rutgers will take place on Sept. 20 in Piscataway, N.J. IU holds a 5-1-1 record against the Scarlet Knights, with the last meeting a 2-0 win at Rutgers in 2011.

 

Indiana kicks off a three-match homestand on Sept. 24 with the Golden Knights of UCF. This is the second-ever meeting between the two schools with IU a 3-0 winner in 1998. Big Ten foe Northwestern comes to town on Sept. 28 in a match that is the second game of a doubleheader with IU women's soccer. Indiana was a 3-0 winner at Northwestern in 2013.

 

The home stretch wraps up on Oct. 1 when the Saint Louis Billikens visit Jerry Yeagley Field at Armstrong Stadium. This will mark the 34th meeting between the two storied programs, and IU is riding a three-match win streak with victories in 2008, 2011 and 2012.

 

Indiana plays five of its next seven matches on the road, with a trip to Louisville on Oct. 7. This recent rivalry ended in a 2-2 tie in Louisville last season, with the matchup sitting a 2-2-1 in the last five meetings. The Hoosiers visit Ohio State on Oct. 12, having won the last three meetings with the Buckeyes.

 

The Hoosiers return home for a pair of matches as they face the two NCAA College Cup finalists from 2013. Up first is new Big Ten member Maryland on Oct. 19. This is the sixth overall meeting between the Hoosiers and Terps, and the first since 2007. IU carries a 3-0-2 record in the series.

 

Reigning NCAA Champion Notre Dame will visit Bloomington on Oct. 22 in the annual matchup between the two programs. The Fighting Irish were 2-0 winners in 2013, but IU leads the all-time series 27-8-2.

 

Indiana returns to Michigan on Oct. 25 after a 2-1 loss in Ann Arbor last season. The Hoosiers' final matchup of the season against in-state schools comes on Oct. 29 as they travel to Evansville. IU has won 12-straight in the series and is 25-4-3 all-time against the Purple Aces.

 

A trip to Wisconsin on Nov. 1, and a matchup at home vs. Michigan State on Nov. 5 wrap up the regular season. The Badgers came from behind for a 4-3 victory in Madison last season, while IU clinched the Big Ten Tournament title last season with a 1-0 victory over the Spartans.

 

With the addition of Rutgers and Maryland to the conference comes a change in the conference tournament. A game between the 8-9 seeds will take place on Nov. 7 at the site of the No. 1 seed. The remaining eight teams will play quarterfinal matches at home sites on Nov. 9, with the semifinals and final taking place Nov. 14 and 16 at the site of the highest remaining seed.

 

NCAA Tournament play begins on Nov. 20 at campus sites, leading up to the College Cup Dec. 12 and 14 in Cary, N.C.
